THE SONS OF ILLINOIS operate out of Chelmsford, Essex. We play exciting, crowd-pleasing Chicago Blues and we very urgently need a bass player. You'll be a Fender P user and must be reliable, committed and have good availability. If you can also play upright bass it will be an advantage, but it's certainly NOT essential. Audition/rehearsals on a Sunday early evening in the CM1 postcode area. We have a good book of really decent gigs (including festivals) for 2026. We have a strong social media presence, with more than 2,000 followers on Facebook and a YouTube channel too. It suddenly dawned on me that 2 members of the group appeared in the Breaking Bad spinoff 'Better Call Saul,.. Ed Bagley Jr and Michael McKean.

Problem: I've got devices on my Pedalboard that I'd like to use in different configurations when gigging, when rehearsing and when practising solo. Everything is on my board: bass wireless receiver, tuner, multi effect, IEM transmitter, DI, headphone amp/mixer and battery. Solutions?? : my tech background prompts me to solve this with a patch panel (all audio inputs and inputs from every device would have their own port in a single patch panel. Then compact patch cables would connect these ports in any combo you want, easily changeable and no more removing of devices to change over their cables. It might be a faff, it might be impractical, unless there are micro connectors. Has anyone done this, or even just attempted it or thought it through?

That bass looks serious! Hopefully we will hear some playing after you have changed strings. That number of strings, it may be wise to change one at a time and not stress the neck too much.

I use rounds... because I've always used them since about 1987! Roto 66, or occasionally Elites.

There's obviously no right answer, but Bakithi uses rounds, so I use rounds.

There was a famous Dutch 'psychedelic' group in the '70ies called Supersister. Bassist (already dead) Ron van Eck used to have one too. If it is used on recordings I don't know. It's worth listening to their music. Look at the super heavy duty Fender bass amp in the background.

It’s lost its original pickups and preamp, and had a bit of a respray on the front, but the rest of it’s still there, and for what seems a decent price. Vigier Passion Bass 1986-87

I've just got back from Islington after collecting this monster that I bought 6 weeks ago. I'd given up on finding one years ago. I've gigged a 12 in the past, I've played "those" songs live, I've seen Cheap Trick a few times, I've seen Tom Petersson guesting with Pearl Jam playing Surrender in the US, I've been chasing one of these for years. It's a 1999 B12L and it's like New Old Stock. It's pristine. @Wolverinebass has given me some great pointers for biamping via the HXStomp and shared patches that I've already trialled with 4-string Spectors. It's the first set-neck bass I've ever had, apropos of nothing, just saying. It needs a set up, it'll get new strings in the morning and then I'll see what it can do. It's relatively light for such a thing @9.5lb. No idea of neck dive yet. That's the original Hamer case and the original certificate with serial number is in there. More pics and updates as the week progresses.

Now sold, apparently, but came across this on Reverb recently. I want one! If it’s real, that is - anyone come across such a thing before? Sandberg Rickenbacker Sondermodel 2003 - Black Custom Shop

PPS - forgot to mention* that: we need you to bring your own mains cable reels/extensions to make sure everyone has power; we rely on having a few volunteers from 8am to help spread the load of setting the hall up; there will be a limited selection of food available early doors for those who didn't have time for breakfast. *You'd think we'd never done this before!? 😉
