  1. Past hour
  2. Leave it closed with a fair few of those silca gel sachets inside, as well airing it and spraying it ect.
  3. Im late 40's and still go to plenty of gigs. Even get involved in the odd most pit. At a lot of the gigs I go to, im far from the oldest. Gigs aren't just for young whippersnappers
  4. Just saw this. it's an odd one. While I think the form factor is good, I cant imagine its any use in a band setting. I suppose it could replace the likes of the VoxPlug etc. https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/tonexplug/
  5. The internet is not going away! Enjoy using it or don't. Spotify has been a massive blessing to music listeners all over the world. It would be great if it paid bands better, for sure! It seems to me that streaming is to music, what libraries are to books. Don't think anyone is arguing that libraries are evil, and everyone should buy all their own books? It's certainly not either/or: I love listening to music on YT and Spotify. I also love regularly gigging and being by paid decently by venues who know the worth of live music as part of what they offer their customers.
  6. These days, the only originals bands playing mid-week are well-known ones with a couple of albums out who are on tour and have some sort of financial support from a record label or management company. Here in Nottingham gigs by new bands are on average £10 on the door (and at some venues free).
  7. Or weekends. Most of the time I have commitments and strangely enough getting in at gone midnight doesn’t gel well with getting in to work and doing a decent job. Your rant is not for me. If you don’t want to prostitute your self on the socials or want people to use streaming platforms that is up to you but as you said “no effer want to get off their fat one” So I guess it’s everyone else who is at fault for not knowing about you? I will continue going to see relatively unknown artists who I discovered in the digital space. I hope that I contribute in some small way to them making a living.
  8. Hello mate Yes, I also got these from @Aidan63. But appreciate your kind offer. Got some covers with no pole pieces visible for a different look. I'm going to fully shield everything to reduce noise but might try the DiMarzio option if the finished bass is really good. Thanks very much for the heads up. 👍 I'd also thought about Barts but they cost more than a good bass! I've already got a PJ bass (Squier) with standard Squier pickups but a harness with a Sprague orange tone capacitor and that sounds amazingly good in both P and J formats, but blended it's even better (about 25% P and 75% J). There's no weak J pickup at all. It weighs in at under 9lbs and sustains for days. It also has one of the older Northwest Guitars maple necks on it (43mm nut width and one piece rather than separate fretboard) and I don't care what anyone thinks, I love it. With this build it's more initially about getting the look right, but I'm happy to mod. I've got a Ray 34 with Nordy 42 pickup, Schaller tuners and an East preamp and that sounds incredible. I also put together a fretless Jazz using an old Chinese Squier body and a used Mex fretless (lined) neck. It's lovely. My (Mex) P Bass has a Tonerider pickup, Gotoh reverse tuners and Hipshot bridge. That sounds as good as any P Bass I've played. I wouldn't go to town on a rare or really expensive instrument, but I just get things the way I like them. Just need to learn how to play better now! 😂 Cheers
  9. Oops. Operator error.
  10. You assume I play mid week. And I'm only 5 or so years behind you...
  11. Even in the 00s, decent cover bands were packing out pubs. These days, if you get anywhere near half full, the landlord will talk about it being 'full' and the best night they've had for months! I was talking more about the 80s / 90s original bands, when if you put on any reasonably credible rock show you would expect a couple of hundred paying customers (more in many places). Unfortunately, those days are long gone, due to a mixture of changing fashions, more alternative forms of entertainment and (above all) people having less disposable income to spend on going to see bands. You still can get decent attendances in some places (especially in more affluent areas), but it needs to be more of an event and tends to favour certain genres or tribute bands of one kind or another.
  12. I am in my mid 50s. The days of frequenting random gigs mid week are 30 years behind me. The generation that you need for that are teenagers to mid twenties and like it or not they get their information from the digital space.
  13. Aim lower - at the local level here at least, door tax is less than a tenner, and the pints are £5-6. Still no effer want to get off their fat one (and their heads out of Instagram's backside...), but that's our fault for not being all "HEY, WE'RE IN A BAND, WE'RE GOOD, YOU SHOULD COME AND SEE US" all over the socials, because it's bloody gross and quite ikky to have the begging bowl out, whoring ourselves to hell and back again just to try to coax a few folk to come and see a band.
  14. Spray with Febreze, and borrow a friends Conservatory for a few days.
  15. You must consider them along with the rest, as the final result is the sum of all the parts. Another consideration is boundary cancellations, which occur when the distance from the speaker to a boundary is 1/4 wavelength, and/or when the difference in the distance from the speaker to a boundary to the listener totals 1/2 wavelength. These cancellations typically are manifested relatively close to the speaker, which is to say on the stage. They diminish as you get further away. It's why your on stage sound can seem bass weak while it's too much in the audience. It's the source of the myth of wave propagation, the notion that one must be a certain distance from the source for a low frequency wave for the dB level to reach its full potential. Accounting for it and the rest is why you need to do a sound check standing where it matters most, in the audience, or as close to it as possible, when setting your EQ. As often as not perfect tone on stage can be boomy out front.
  16. I've recently picked up a Pedulla which is a lovely bass. Problem is that the case smells damp and musty. I'd normally just leave it in the sun for a few days, but this isn't an option (as I live in Bristol, not Bali). Does anyone have any foolproof and preferably non-messy methods to make it smell a bit nicer?
  17. You have the Aerodyne Pickups? I have a pair ( of pickups) if you need them. Incidentally, I fitted DiMarzios into my Aeridyne as I wanted a humbucking J Bridge Pickup. I contacted DiMarzio Tech Suport about their wiring diagrams as they differed from received wisdom. For the first time, my tone pot did something. I have now reworked all my passive basses, even those that do not use DiMarzio pups.
  18. Hi Folks, Is anyone travelling to Sunday's Bash from the Kent area??
  19. But without the Internet, how will you tell strangers they don't need the Internet?
  20. Two of these, as new and completely unused. No marks of any sort, just dust. Bought with the intention of hanging a couple of basses up, but never got round to it. WYSIWYG -- no screws included, but those are easy to source from your friendly neighbourhood DIY emporium. M4 x 45mm seems to be the manufacturer's recommendation. Here's the Hercules product page: HCGSP-39WB PLUS - Hercules Stands Thomann are selling these at £15 a pop, but that doesn't include postage. I would far, far prefer to sell them as the pair, but will split if I really must. £13.50 each, both for £25.
  21. Ron Brown has since disappeared… his daughter went on to talkbass 6 years ago saying that she had lost contact with him. Apparently he was last in the Texas area after moving away from La when the major session scene modernised in the mid 80s. He would be around 85.
  22. I do. I just tend not to blindly pay £25+ for tickets, £7+ plus a pint and £15 plus on transport on a whim. Like most people.
  23. This is what I'm starting with. Thanks again @Aidan63
