About 20 years ago I was a deposit payment away from ordering one. I'd looked longingly at the photos on the Shuker website and exchanged numerous emails with Jon regarding specifications. Then I actually got to play one at (IIRC) one of the Manchester Bass Days. I can't put my finger exactly on what it was, but the bass just didn't feel comfortable for me to play and the whole experience left me feeling very underwhelmed. Especially as a few weeks earlier I'd been at The Bass Gallery in Camden and had tried a Rob Allen and liked it a lot. In fact had the two experiences happened the other way round I might well have bought the Rob Allen. As it was I changed my mind completely about the look I wanted and put down a deposit on a Sei instead.

My frends really awful band - advice needed

I`ve always answered no to that question. Mainly because the actual answer was "your bum looks big in everything". Which of course I was far too diplomatic to say. -

We have a gig coming up there soon. This will be the first gig without our own PA and im just wondering what the monitor situation is.

I like it in that it would be lighter, but your point is valid about taking it around. I think I like what I'm used to and tend to prefer the looks with the case.

They do some out there things sometime ashdown. I can't work out why they'd market the new abm in that metal case with no protection. It's either to keep costs down, but then offer you the wooden sleeve at extra cost, or just a bit crazy. We know it won't last without protection with all those exposed knobs and sliders. I said it before about the RM - just add a clippable lid front and back and that would be miles better. Full protection, no need for a heavy wooden cover and very easy to use.

Not sure if the toaster is original or not? Serial dates from 1998?

BobNeville12 started following Frets on US 62 reissue jazz

Hi I've got a 62 reissue jazz, american made, bought new about thirteen years ago.my question is;does anyone know what size fretwire fender used on them.i want to refret a precision with the same size frets, but there are so many different frets out there I don't know which to get.i believe pre cbs fenders had the equivalent of dunlop 6230 frets, which are about 2mm wide and 1.1 mm high.here in the UK fender are selling vintage frets which are about 2.1 mm and 1mm.i don't have any accurate measuring tools and I do have failing eyesight!I imagine measuring the height would be inaccurate anyway due to levelling. Any help would be much appreciated Thanks

If most their business is in guitars then I’m not sure G&L will have kept the Fender C-suite up at night. what it might let them do is have fender as the heritage brand and G&L as the wackier ideas brand, in bass world like you said they haven’t really changed much that catches on since moving the jazz pickup - it gives them two/three bass models that actually do something different - a decent 5 string and a more muscular humbucker

That's a beautiful venue (the theatre one :-)). The outdoor one though... I'd have to laugh that one off. I play mostly original music so I'm used to small crowds, which I don't mind if we get an occasional amazing gig.

Try seeing if there's any dep work going locally. People in bands know other bands and you might get a lead that way and it gets you in the game. Same goes for your BIL and drummers are usually in short supply if they're any good.

Kissing Frogs is not recommended. They don't like it, apparently

ricksterphil started following Attendance Concerns

Played a gig in Hinckley to the proverbial 3 men and a dog and I've done gigs where the crowd is standing on the bit of floor that passes as a stage it's so busy. I was in a fairly successful Bowie Tribute band for 5 years and we usually got great crowds, but that's because we were pretty good and it's the draw of Mr Jones himself. I imagine most decent tributes get the same lift in attendance from fans of the original band or artist being tributed. I'm now in a Country Rock band and we get pretty good crowds, including 130 at a ticketed event in Melton Mowbray. Again, we're not too shabby and Country is hot right now in the UK. On Daryl's point, it is soul destroying to play to thin air. I get upset if the venue is full and I don't see heads nodding and feet tapping. However, as has been said, the show must go on and there's no excuse for not putting in 100% (or for wearing shorts on stage unless you're the drummer 😂)

Fender Vintera 60s Jazz vs Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz: which one?
HeadlessBassist replied to Marvin's topic in Bass Guitars
That's definitely a valid concern, Marvin. I've never been able to change the one on my American Original, although it's thankfully never needed it in the 6 years I've had it, and I definitely don't want to be taking the neck off. Nooo. It's interesting how all Fender's modern necks (except the Vintera/Vintage models) have been through production streamlining now, and all now have truss rod adjustment at the nut & a skunk stripe on the back. -

Diplomacy is always the best option. All questions like, "Does my bum look big in this!" etc are better left unanswered. IMO there is no good part of a sh!t sandwich. So leave the autopsy for the band. -
But none of those are directly in competition with Fender, whereas G&L by the very definition are supposed to be the guitars and basses that Leo would want you to buy over those from his previous companies. My feeling is that fender will have bought them to reclaim the Leo Fender heritage. They'll pay lip-service to the brand for a few years and then everything will be quietly dropped. As we've seen over the years, Fender's core user base don't want any developments to their instruments since the pickup positioning on the Jazz bass was changed.
