Breaking Up Is Hard To Do - Neil Sedaka

Cool, Pete my concern for Saturday is the heat. It's going to be in the 90s. There's a bass rig on stage. I'm only bringing an instrument stand, bass and my pedal board. Daryl

NBD: Ibanez SRMD205 Mezzo 5 string. Medium scale

Wow,a lot to answer there. Simply, yes you can go passive many have done it. You can have a blend pot but you need to get one with a shaft long enough to get through the body. Allparts do one. Go for 250k pots for the other ones. Again you need them to have long enough shafts to cope with the through body mounting. I can’t remember if there is enough room to accommodate full sized pots in the cavity but if there is I would advise using them. I was unable to obtain CTS 250k pots with long shafts in the UK (they may be available in Italy). Failing that Alpha do full size (and mini) pots with a shaft long enough for through body mounting. For the capacitor, go for 0.047, or 0.1 uf. I wouldn’t try to reuse the pots on the bass; they are pretty horrible and they may be the wrong impedance anyway for a passive setup. I think you are making life very difficult for yourself trying to convert it to a Jazz/Jazz set up. You would have to do a lot of routing, filling and repainting as the Jazz and P pickups are completely different sizes and shapes. Also, I found the quality of the body wood was very poor. It just crumbled when I took a very sharp chisel to it. By the way I was doing that to accommodate a normal size Jess pickup in the bridge position. The OEM jazz pickup on my 4 string was smaller than standard, I suspect this will be the same on the 5 string. It might be worth checking if a Jazz neck pickup will fit, otherwise you have to open up the route and as I discovered, it isn’t easy wood to work with! You are going to have a spare hole, if you go for a passive vol/blend/tone set up. You could us that for a standard mono jack socket and blank off the OEM jack location with a plate. Otherwise you are looking at replacing the OEM stereo barrel jack: there are plenty available but not all will fit in the space Ibanez provide. TBH, I would be inclined to replace the standard Ibanez preamp with a Glockenlang 2-band from Thomann. Reasonable price, very transparent, it has a passive mode with tone control and there is not much volume difference between active and passive mode. It pretty well drops into the Mezzo (I know, I have done it). It would give you much less work and not cost that much more. -

That looks cool Daryl...! I'm playing a big bike rally with the 'occasional' blues band this weekend. It's a big event, but not anywhere as near as big as that!

Up for sale is my great little Epifani UL 110. 250w 8Ohms. 11.6 Kg Bought for home use but has been to a couple of gigs as an extension cab to my old TKs 112 I had at the time. Easily powerful enough on it's own for acoustic stuff etc. Good overall condition. One of the bottom corner protectors is a bit damaged but it dose its job and the carpet is going a bit bobbly in places. Collection from St Helens. Not sure on postage yet as I'm pretty low on packaging and suitable boxes. Could possibly meet up if not too far.

Well I'm going to have to try moving on my recently acquired Markbass Ninja 2x12 cab. My other cabs listed here have no interest whatsoever and I need to pay off my ever ballooning credit card bill! 800w, 8 Ohms and in excellent condition with fitted cover. Gigged a couple of times and rehearsed with it and I was very impressed. Lightweight, compact and portable, fitted easily in the boot of my VW Passat. I'd be keeping it for sure if funds allowed. I bought this for the absolute bargain price of 300 quid and thats what I'm asking for it. Located in St Helens, Merseyside for collection only. 'IF' my other Markbass cabs sell I'll withdraw it. Here's the original sale thread. I'll be happy to post more pictures if required.

I don't use regular bass amps, I use stereo power amps. That way I'm not restricted by some amp. designers short sightedness. LOL

No, shoving a plectrum into the scratchplate like that is bound to stress it around the neck end screw and may break it.

Buy lots of individual pedals. ....then realise it's a bit unwieldy, costly, and difficult to do complex changes live quickly. Sell individual pedals and buy a multi fx. ......then realise that it isn't as 'hands/stomp on' and not as 'what you see is what you get' and some sounds (like envelope filter) aren't as good as individual pedals. Sell multi fx and buy individual pedals. Repeat.
