  2. My lights have lasted for ages. However I've just had to order the third pair of stands for them! Hopefully the Gravity stands will last a bit longer. I was hoping to get some lightweight aluminium stands but they won't extend high enough for lights, so I had to have taller steel ones - should be more stable anyway. I'll let you know how they go. Anyone got any opinions on Gravity stands? My guitarist bought a mic stand recently and that seems quite good quality. I'll stick with my K&M though - it's standing up well (geddit?! 😁) to regular gigging.
  3. I remember buying my Flea Jazz. I was tryinh it out along with some modern jazz basses. I couldn't get a tone I liked, the guy at the shop said you prefer a more traditional sound? He plugged me into a rumble 100 and lo! There was the sound I wanted.
  4. I just heard back from a bass player friend who has a PhD is electronic engineering, also happens to know Mark Gooday a little. He said to return it. Should not be that way and could be simple or expensive to fix. I emailed the big online seller and they said they would send a free return label. So my great deal kind of went out the window. Bummed about that. Might ask if they have a tech in the area as I would really like to keep it. Such is life. I appreciate all the help and advise. If something changes, I'll update.
  5. I've had my lead for quite some time now and it's done a lot of gigs... and the jacks are still gold 😁
  6. Rob was true to his word and delivered the bass exactly on time so I could put it all together, with help from Julian Mullen, and gig it the same day! IMG_1990.mov

  8. Everyone is going to be rooting for you. Just getting up and being there is an achievement everyone will appreciate. The moment you start playing you will be too absorbed in the moment to worry. Nerves and excitement are not negative emotions they prepare you. Afterwards you'll wonder why you worried and be grateful for having such a special opportunity.
  9. All this talk of the Spark has made me realise how lacking the drive is in my EBS Microbass 3. Love the clean sound, and it can get a bit warm if pushed, but cant get the drive sounding as i want it. it’s warm, but loses clarity.
  10. Problem solved guys.Thanx.
  11. Had also been asked about the weight of this: 4.15 kg / 9.15 lbs
  12. @andyhaines Tested my Gnome tonight and I can confirm that the fan is silent .... sort off. The fan noise is silent, no wooshy noise etc. The only thing you can hear is the sound of a component moving but it's so minimal that you can only hear it if you put your ear right next to the amp. At any other time it is silent and like I say, no fan noise in the traditional sense.
  13. −Human - Metallica
  14. I would concur the TE-1200 and Monza sound fabulous, although I think of the Trace as a small/mid sized head (its not a micro/mini in any sense). The Trace is really quite clean (doesn't overdrive like a valve or hybrid head) but sounds superb. It is not, as noted above, a cheap head and there are many other alternatives with more Watts for your pennies. Disclosure: I have only used at home so far, so haven't tested volume capabilities with a loud band (first rehearsal in a week or so's time)
  15. The easiest way to prove if you have a noisy tube is to make sure the valve drive plus button is switched off, ie all the way out. Plug your bass in and you will be bypassing the tube function with the valve drive button out. If you still hear a buzz/hum then its not the tube that's causing it. FYI, ABM's like the EVO IV will be quiet with no instrument plugged. The input jack has a switched signal contact to ground with nothing plugged in. In general most ABM's should be quiet at idle with an instrument connected, and not buzz or hum if they are in good condition. If you have only just bought the amp, and the noise persists and it doesnt appear to be the tube, might be worth returning it or taking a chance and asking a Tech to look at it for you. It could be something simple, like a loose ground screw or ribbon cable plug if its been jiggled about in a courier truck at some point in time. But then again it might be something else that is causing the noises. My own EVO IV is dead silent at idle with a bass plugged in and any ABM I've owned in the past has always been quiet at idle with a bass connected.

  19. Curve ball alert. If low fan noise and transparency are important what about an Orange Terror? Before you mock me, remember it has a clean switch that gets rid of all that lovely Orange overdrive.
  20. My Apocalypse - Metallica.
  21. I don't normally contribute to questions like this, I'm not a user of exotic amps and tend to go direct to PA at gigs and use in-ears but I do have a Monza as my back up and a couple of micro amps so here's my 10p worth. The Warwick Gnome and the Trace Elf 130W into the Monza give me plenty of volume for medium sized gigs and as a stage monitor for the whole band. I don't play full throttle bass for a rock band but that isn't what you are looking for. Either of them fit the easy fit criterion. The Gnome in particular sounds hi-fi a really clean sound, the Trace is more err... Trace, with a good dollop of midrange suckout. A really appealing sound out of the box but not neutral. As it happens I also have the Bugera BV1000M. I wonder what "Hi fi " means to you? For me it is that clean open sound, not overwhelmed by bass or worse the boost around 120Hz you get from underdamped speakers. It should also sound light and airy. My initial feeling with the Gnome is that it was just that. We did some frequency response measurements on these amps and it turns out that 'hi fi' and flat aren't the same thing . The Gnome has a quite pronounced boost at higher frequencies and the low bass is largely absent. The Bugera has an almost flat response with the tne controls set flat but sounds 'neutral' rather than 'hi fi' to my ears anyway. On my amps the fan is quieter on the Gnome thatn the Elf. DI on the micro amps is post though so not ideal for you. The last thing is the Monza, it's got a great horn and driver and is crossed over really accurately. It's also designed for you to hear those mids and tops with the clever radiation pattern. Are you just hearing sonds that were therebefore but inaudible from your playing position? I wonder if you could just filter out the unwanted high frequency elecctrical noise and let the Monza concentrate on giving you just the bass sounds you need from that wonderful mid range
  22. Terrific work as usual, congratulations again @Basvarken, it's always a delight to read your posts and look at the photos.
  23. That is funky!! Good competition as the Tye Zamora model has no Fender DNA, but looks like a pretty conventional set-up for a bass of it's type - whereas this Adrian Younge thing looks 100% Fender but is completely unconventional 😂
  24. John aka @chienmort tested a number of amps at the SW Bash Bash a few years ago. The Veyron was one of them. It had a completely flat frequency response, which is at least half way towards a transparent amp. I still have one and don't find the fan loud, although I think some may be louder than others. It works well with the Monza, I can say, and is the bargain of the century in bass heads. The amp I actually use is the Trace Elliot TE1200, which is superb - and does the 3D/projection thing very well. I know @Clarky has a Monza and a TE1200. Maybe he'll chime in if he sees this. The Trace is a bit pricey, unfortunately, and probably not as portable as the OP is looking for.
  25. I’ve messaged him a few times and he’s always replied, seems like a really nice guy and he knows his stuff
