  4. 5. If it was then half the factory must be in on it. You have the person who initially set the frets then the one taping the board for the spray finish. Next there's the person at the buffing station, the folk attaching hardware and pickups. Somebody put strings on it, did a quick set up then handed it over to QC; where they proudly stuck the little "Made in USA" label on it. Finally there was the person putting it in it's case. Given it wasn't an isolated case, the replacement the lad got was actually worse, one can only surmise that crap is deemed acceptable. Thankfully the matter was resolved with the third bass, shop manager shifted through the warehouse to find one with decent workmanship.
  6. A really nice example finished in the beautiful Fender Dakota Red. It has had a really nice set up - level frets, low playing action & is in excellent condition. It feels about the same size as a Strat to me and weighs in at 2.8Kg, or a tad over 6lbs in ‘old money’ The back of the neck has a lovely flame to the Maple. Other upgrades include a KiOgen wireless loom, Bourns potentiometers, Switchcraft output Jack socket, uprated pickups and a spiffing Celluloid top layer faux Tortoiseshell pickguard. This Bass would be ideal as a travelling instrument, for a beginner, or anyone with smaller hands. Because it is so small - about the same size as a Fender Stratocaster, it is ideal as a studio Bass or just for ‘noodling’ - Guitarists love these as they feel familiar in their hands. Included in the sale is a Gibson heavily padded Levy’s Gig Bag which although is a tad threadbare in places, still provides excellent protection. 7. Hi. I've had my ABZ since July last year and I am very happy with the thing - damn well should be as it took 8 months to build and cost a pretty penny. However, I was just doing something that needed a noise gate and found something weird happening with the C on the 10th fret of the 2nd string as the note cut out way quicker than the others. When took the gate off I realised that while the note sounds fine it dies away within a couple of seconds, much faster than the surrounding notes. I tried pressing the tip of the headstock against my desk and the issue stopped and the note sustains really nicely, but as soon as I stop pressing the bass into the wood of the desk the note just chokes off. On one level it's not important - when the hell do you need to sutain that note? On the other, I'm feeling peeved. I'll pop Mark at Bass Direct a message tomorrow - they may have a quick fix for it. If not I could just play the rest of my life with the heastock touching a desk or wardrobe or something...
  8. D'Addario Chromes ECB81-5, 45-132 https://www.daddario.com/products/guitar/bass-guitar/xl-chromes-bass/ecb81-5-chromes-bass-5-string-light-45-132-long-scale/ String gauges: 45, 65, 80, 100, 132. D'Addario describe them as "Warm tone and tight, defined bottom". These are versatile, clear-sounding flats. Selling as I no longer own a five-string bass. These are for long scale (normal 34") basses, and have been cut for a Fender-style 4+1 headstock. £30 posted.

  9. Occasionally. I didn’t think it would work well either but the rear porting does the job. I was finding that at some of the bigger venues I was having unpleasantly high volume of it was directly behind me. This has been a decent compromise in the basis that the rest of the band don’t want to go back line less.
  10. Just get LFSys cabs. You will hear yourself, even if you are just about sitting on them.
  11. Great idea for a thread 👍
  12. Is that an easy fix Gary? I'm new to this malarkey, so I'm just needing tips and guidance 🙂
  13. Local pick up from London (near Victoria Park and Mile End Station). This instrument is fantastic. It's a great compromise between an acoustic instrument and a portable one. Only selling cause I'm moving abroad. Comes with a removable waist extender (to mimic a normal upright body) and a soft gig case. You can see in the photos there's two inputs for the two pickups, so that gives you some nice options for dialing in your sound. It's in very good condition. Cosmetically there are a few light scratches here and there (tried to show this in one picture), but nothing very noticable. Returns not accepted, but you're very welcome to come try it out and make sure it's all to your liking before taking it home. I have an amp here you can plug into to test it out and hear the amplified sound. Specifications: Neck:Rock Maple, fixed Fingerboard:Ebony Vibrating String Length:41-1/4 inches Top:Arched, Laminated Spruce Back:Arched, Laminated Curly Maple Air Chamber Depth:3 inches Body Size:10½ x 31½ inches Bass bar:Solid Spruce Sound post:Solid Spruce Bridge:Maple, Fully Adjustable Tailplate:Solid Brass Endpin:Fully Adjustable with Steady-foot™ Anti-rotational Endpin Foot Total Length:63 inches Weight: 13 lbs Here's a youtube playlist of people playing one of these:
  14. Selling my 900 watt shuttle 9.2 in very good condition and comes with a camera case ( you know the one) for protection All working as it should. Will post at buyers expense many thanks.

  15. I was fortunate enough to play the 5 string on the right, known as the ACG Moth. Oddest looking bass I've played, but one of the most ergonomically comfortable basses I've ever played. Whilst I think some single cuts can look bloated, well thought out models can be excellent.
  16. We have a very popular "how was your last gig" thread and a growing rehearsal one, but I can't see a studio one. It's a different beast and I am happy to kick start things. It'd be great to hear other experiences of where you are and how you got on. Yesterday, we returned to Mooncalf Studios in Wiltshire, for our penultimate session for album no. 3. Playing gothic original material, we usually record the drum tacks and keys on GarageBand, take them to the studio to upload and tidy up, and then add the guitars / bass / vocals. We uploaded the last three songs and recorded the bass and vocals. I used my Fender Jazz USA (2008) and my Squier Bass VI for the bass parts. I also got to use a Jerry Jones Sitar guitar that we had hired for the princely sum of one bottle of red wine. Oh, and I added a simple part on my David Bowie Stylophone. The sitar took a few runs. Mainly because I was writing the part whilst in the studio. The bass all went down in one take with no overdubs, across all three tracks. That doesn't always happen but it is nice when it does. I also did a few lead vocal lines, which went down pretty easily. We have three guitar parts and one of my vocal parts to do and the album is done. Anyhow, enough about me... who else has a recent studio session that they'd care to share?
  17. in front of you ? TBH when i had the 121 rig i never stood to the side of it. Always directly in front maybe up to 2-3 ft max from it. I liked the 210 combo they had where the speakers were side by side rather than one above the other. The cab could tilt back to approx 35-45 degrees if i remember right tilting upwards to let you hear it better. Dave
  18. Me too Neil. I got it from our very own @wateroftyne with regards the WB-100 and it has worked wonders when using the VM4. Definitely an improvement. For me i love a graphic EQ as i can see at a quick glance where my tone is and i know exactly what to adjust from there. With paraEQ i never know what freq to boost or cut. A lot of trial and error ensues until i find it. I think i need to know my amp better and the mid frequencies that really enhance a bass tone for what i like. All dependant on what bass i use too of course. Dave
  19. Funny that, I always place my MB NYI21s to the side or just in front of me. I seem to be able to hear them much better that way
  20. Hi Mr Bassman, This bass looks stunning and I've heard great things about Jay Haide instruments. I'm currently in the market for a new bass at roughly this price. I'm based in Scotland but I'm heading down south for a few days from the 16th of this month. Would I be able to arrange a time to try it? Let me know what's the best way to contact you. Cheers! Stephen
  21. Beautiful punchy cabs these. GLWTS 👍🏻👍🏻
  22. Today
  23. Ha, you just find a sound you like then always leave it on that. The active bass mid & treble have been in the same place on my Ibanez since just after I got it in 1984. At least now, when they get knocked, I know where to put them 😂.
  24. Wise decision. Everything else comes rather from your fingers.
  25. You could file down the nut top so about a third of the diameter of the A, D and G string is showing above each slot. Also press down each string between the 2nd and 3rd fret and then tap the string directly over the 1st fret. If you don't get a dinking sound the nut string slot has been cut too low
  26. I thought this thread would be about this:
