    I used to have strong feelings about/against it, but firstly it's what shops such as Bass Direct/Bass Bros do and we don't have a problem with that. Secondly (and more importantly) we never know what a person is dealing with in life, quite a few members have lost their jobs recently, or have other financial problems (divorce/increased cost of living etc), and while I've historically tended to flip basses for a loss here, if I were in a difficult situation financially and struggling to pay the bills/put food on the table, I'd have no problem doing it for a profit. I hope it doesn't come to that, and I suspect I'd probably still make it clear where the bass came from. Basschat is a strong community the members of which are 99.99% of the time highly supportive of each other, even to the point of happily donating gear and even money to other members with problems. Perhaps part of that charitable ethos is also to allow other members to make a few quid buying and selling?

    Hi folks, for sale is my awesome Ken Smith BT 5 from 1990. I got it here on basschat a few years ago. I have to thin out the herd and that‘s why I want to sell some basses. After years of buying, selling and trading it‘s time to "settle down" with just a 2 or 3 basses. This bass is in good - very good condition for its age, but has some dings or dongs as you can see on the pictures. The bass has been played, some folks see it as an advantage, others as a disadvantage. Electronics and truss-rod work with no issues. Frets are in very good condition, too. Comes with a non-original case, unfortunately I have no papers. Here are the specs I got from Ken Smith: Mahagony core Lacewood body/back, maple veneers Maple/Morado Neck Ebony fingerboard Neck-Through Weight 4,4 kg I replaced the original tuners ( I still have got them) with lighter tuners if you are playing standing up there is still a light neck diving because of the old BT form Pick up is preferred, but maybe I can arrange shipping to buyer's expense and risks. Problem is that there is limit for insurancy with most postal services. Maybe we can meet in person somewhere on half distance. If you need more pictures let me know. No warranty, no return and no guarantee because I am a private seller. But all informations is provided to the best of my knowledge and belief. I am open to trades, but there are only a few basses that I am interested in. Maybe Adamovic 6 String, Mattison; Ken Smith BSR 6 String, but you can try to lead my into temptation.     Not against the rules, but certainly against the spirit to immediately repost for sale at a profit. My problem…I buy stuff but rarely move stuff on. I have purchased a few things here, always to use not flip, and if it’s not quite my thing I will re advertise here after a bit of use but at no more than I bought it for…then again others might say I’m a fool to myself 🙂 If I have had and used something for a while and do decide to move it on, and the market has moved that’s a different matter, but not as a buy and flip. Certainly don’t expect me to resell the Wal I’ve had for 40+ years for what I paid for it 🤣

    I find it distasteful but not against any rules so can't really speak against it. Perhaps the altruistic could all start high and wait for a bite giving all the opportunity to buy at market value.

    My fretted mid-70s P got a diMarzio (I'm currently trying to sell the original pickup) and there's a rout under the scratchplate where I put an active EQ and battery, which I subsequently removed. I also hacked the scratchplate around and removed the remnants of the rather battered sunburst finish. I part-exchanged it in 1988 - I occasionally wonder what happened to it. It wasn't unusual for mods to get done to them, like J bass bridge pickups. Nowadays it seems that doing anything like that is regarded as sacrilege - even a decent refin so it doesn't look like it got towed to every gig (why are Fender finishes so fragile?) is regarded as an evil deed.

    A bass is only worth what someone will pay for it. I got very annoyed when someone talked me into parting with a fairly collectible bass a while ago and then he promptly flipped it. I think with a price hike... But I wasn't using it much, so.... I'm selling a few basses locally thru fbook and they've been in my collection for years and it's just time to part with some that don't get played. The days of silly money for basses appear to be over. I do see some wacky asking prices and tend to scroll on....

    On Saturday we rocked up bright and early and set up at one of our favourite venues in Bolton. Our dep drummer walked in just after 8 with his phone to his ear and a stunned expression. He said his elderly mum had had a fall and was on the flooring her kitchen and he had to go sort her out with an ambulance. He said he'd be back asap. A bit of a shock, but we decided that our only way forward was to play the two sets acoustically, instead of the 4-5 we were going to start with. Our dep drummer didn't reappear as he was in A&E at Wythenshawe hospital and his mum was only seen at 2am. I felt so sorry for the dreadful situation with his mum. He sent us an awful photo of her bruised face. He did exactly the right thing. Fortunately it went down very well and we even threw in some songs we'd never played together before. It's such a pleasure to have my new guitarist in the band. There's enthusiasm now, as opposed to the 'getting through it' that we had before.

    My pjb flightcase ( plus pb300 for larger spaces) is great for uncoloured double bass and has a good high input impedance. It just makes the bass louder really. The two four is probably just too small. My rig totals 10x 5" and 400W. I presume a pjb head would be equally clean and work well into into a neutral sounding cab. Likewise I've found the small Mark bass combos good for dB ( turn off all that vfm vpf nonsense) so surprised the op isn't happy with it, maybe the nano isn't as good as the larger amps? In fact (amost) all amps have an hpf built in ( even the fender rumbles) it's just not adjustable. Only a few exotica ( Mesa d800+ for instance) seem to have tweakable high pass. It's there to protect the speaker but being set around 40Hz ( usually) and quite a steep roll off, also controls boominess. Whatever, for jazz in pubs etc ( which is what I do) I've not needed an external HPF but have sometimes turned the low bass EQ knob down to deal with room acoustics.

    I think it's a lovely, growly vibe. Personal taste, as everyone is saying, but I love it. You could reduce the high frequency element of it quite easily with a bit of EQ, but in a band context I bet it would cut through beautifully.

    I've been working my way by trial and error through bass amp heads and these are the sweeping generalisations I've arrived at: TC - good, solid amps but the EQ generally positioned at the wrong frequencies for upright. Boomy and prone to feedback Warwick Gnome - excellent value, but EQ bands in the wrong spots also. Genzler Magellans 350 and 800- excellent for double bass. Even without an HPF, there's enough tone shaping to get you a decent sound in most situations. Genz-Benz streamliner - tube front end actually slightly more flattering to an upright bass than the more modern Genzlers. Great. PJB - Two Four. Couldn't get on with it really. It's very highly tuned to a single low frequency, so a real feedback hazard if you hit that particular note. Traynor YBA300 - delicious, but heavy. Far too much low end unless you use an outboard HPF. But I do use one, and I'm currently in love with the sound of it. Just about sits neatly on top of an LFSys Monaco if you lay it on it's side.

    Hi All, Just wanted to throw something out there and see what people think. Basschat’s always felt like a proper community to me, people helping each other out, sharing gear, advice, and good vibes. However, I’ve recently noticed a case where someone has bought a bass locally at a very good price, then flips it immediately for a profit on BC. Now, I get that people are allowed to make money and everyone’s got their own reasons for selling gear. But it does make me wonder, is that kind of flipping really in the spirit of the community? This isn’t meant to be a shop, and I think most of us list stuff here with the idea that it’s going to another player, not just being resold for cash. So I’m curious what others think: Is flipping gear for profit on Basschat fair game? Is there a difference between selling something you no longer need vs buying just to resell for profit? Anyway, just wanted to get a feel for what others think. Maybe I’m overthinking it, maybe not. Not trying to stir the pot, just genuinely interested in hearing different views. Let’s keep it friendly!

    At this point, the bands that I am in only ever rehearse if there is a point, i.e. if we need to learn new material, or if we've got gigs coming up and we haven't played together for a while. No regular rehearsals or anything like that. If somebody wants to get together for a jam session, then I'm happy to do that (depending on who it is) as long as it is understood that is what we will be doing.

    Yep. HPF is a must. God alone knows shy they are so rarely found incorporated into amp heads in the first place.
