Aye! Bass players are their own worst enemy - we see it on BC frequently where amazing bassists are dismissed as wannabe lead guitarists, or "playing too many notes and not knowing their place". We have the biggest instruments (unless it's a Steinberger!) and so should wield them, rather than letting the look-at-me guitarists get all the adulation! We need a protest group - Musicians Against Guitarists' Attention-seeking.

Congrats, JazzyJ. I had a red one of these earlier in the year and it had huge output for a passive bass.

Saturday, at the annual Folk in the Woods. It’s the inaugural event of the week-long Ripley Music Festival. It takes place at the Waingroves Community Woodland, a lovely area reclaimed from a coal mining site and managed by local volunteers. My covers band, Top Deck, finished off the day playing 7pm - 8pm. Back line supplied, so I was able to travel by bus with just my Mustang and a few bits. Any money raised goes to the upkeep of the woodlands, so no fees for anyone. However, it was free drinks and food for performers. I got a little bit confused by the paths walking back through the woods to the main road and bus stop. 🤪🍺

Our gig Saturday night was expected to be a bit of a muted affair, due to a range of other events happening in the area the same night. While we did lose a few of our usual following to these, it turned out to be a busy night after all, with plenty of new faces (and future followers). These included one bloke who I know from our village who never knew I was in a band, but had us recommended to him by the postman who regularly attends our gigs. Also there was someone I'd not seen since leaving school! Gig wise, the usual two 45 minutes sets of the British 76-82 punk classics - first outing for Stay Free by The Clash was a bit wobbly but well received! Played my shortscale LP Junior DC custom bass through the Orange Terror 500 and twin Isobaric cabs (lurking in the darkness with it's one glowing orange eye!). The Samsamp Geddy Lee YYZ pedal put a touch of damaged/overdriven speaker cone effect into the sound for authenticity, while the usual Dr Martens black safety boots (health and safety at all times!!) kept me the right way up all night! Next one is in a marquee at a scooter rally in a couple of weeks.....

If you look at ICEPower range, the difference between the the A 125ASX2 and the 1200AS1 in volume is about $100. In bridge mode the 125ASX2 will do 500 watts into 4ohms and is used in a number of “500 watt” amplifiers. The 1200AS1 will need more thermal management than the 125ASX2, more than outweighing the cost implications of the bridging circuits required by the 125ASX2. Thr ASX and AS1 range of modules are used in many bass amplifiers. The 1200 watt unit will dive a loudspeaker harder than a 500 watt but will undoubtedly increase power compression in the loudspeaker, limiting the acoustic output by 1-2 dB, hence you could argue that the 1200 watt unit is the one that is the oddity in the range. Looking at the TE1200, the cost is £1000, way more expensive than the 500-700 watt models from Ashdown, Aguilar and even Harley Benton, all of which use ICEPower modules . I have been told, by people I trust, that the TE1200 is a superb amp so why not an amp filling the gap between 200 and 1200 watts? Clearly the TE branded Peavey ams, Elf and TE1200 have fairy dust inside so why not sprinkle some on a 500-700 watt amp? Although a qualified electronics engineer. I also spent a decade or more in a Marketing role. We had a single model in one category and the Factory developed three models to replace it to suit three different market segments. The Sakes Manager was convinced our sales would remain static. In the end our sales went up 250%. The reason? People could choose from within our range without having to search other manufacturers. So it makes sense for TE/Peavey. So whether a 500 watt TE500(Orca) is needed by bassists is in some way irrelevant, the truth is that there is a market segment for a TE amp in the 500-700 area at about £700-800.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Leonard Smalls replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
We had a full band rehearsal yesterday to get ready for Worcester gig on Friday 11th... The part-band rehearsals really helped - everyone is now more receptive to what the others are playing, and as a result we're tighter and a bit heavier. Guitarman, however, hadn't learnt some of the intricate widdly bass bits I do which would have sound awesome if we both did 'em, so we decided he'd just emphasise the beginning of the phrase in one of the songs leaving me to have a number of mini solos... and in the other one where my busy line does a sort of double time syncopation with the vocals he does just muted scratchy stuff which further emphasises the rhythm. So a bit of a win! Just hoping drum-man doesn't start every song far too slow! -
Here we have a fantastic Glockenlang preamp, comprising Volume, Treble and Bass controls. Pull passive tone circuit activated from Push/Pull vol control. This was removed by my tech from another bass I got in a trade. If you use a twin pickup bass you will just need to obtain a suitable balance pot. The details: GLOCKENKLANG 2-band onboard preamp Active/passive switchable (at the volume push/pull) Treble-pot with +/- 18 dB@18 KHz in active mode, acting as classical high cut in passive mode Bass-pot with +/- 14 dB@40 Hz. Input-impedance (without Balance): 1,5 MOhm Frequency range: 20 Hz -20 KHz Power requirement: 9 volts/1,3 mA Min. installation depth: 28 mm (1.1″) Due to the high performance electronics, in flat position of the eq you can hear no difference between active and passive mode! £75 inc postage. Paypal (you pay fees) or bank transfer both fine. Please see my extensive positive feedback thread for assurance of a simple, honest transaction.

Bought a Boss DS-330 from Ash. Absolutely mint, boxed - couldn't have found a better example anywhere else. Thank you! It's great to have it back in my world to revive some old tracks from the 90s.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. So I literally just need vol/vol or vol/blend (not fussed) b/t, and a passive switch ideally. I'm more than happy for stacked controls. Just no idea where to turn. In regards to liking the sound, I love it, but I want flexibility on board. If I'm playing live, I dont want to have to fiddle with pedals mid gig to get a slightly different tone. Plenty do that I knkw, just not for me. Thanks for the suggestions.

FTFY. Granted it was an excellent bass sound, but I am finding that rock and metal bass tones now fall into one of two categories 1) Sansamp 2) Darkglass GnR were woeful. Only polished thing about them were Axl Rose's teeth. He absolutely butchered Never Say Die. I haven't heard a singer that out of time since the vocalist in my first band and that was 28 years ago.
