Great perspective Len. I realize that I have a pretty sweet thing going for me with Maple Road. Fantastic bandmates, for the most part with decent gigs and good money. Daryl

That's super kind of you, thank you. I'm in Camberley, Surrey so not far at all. When I'm closer to going for the change I'll drop you a PM. Thank you 😊

Well, I’ll start off with a quote I first heard many years ago and still holds true. ”playing music with other people is about the best fun you can have with your clothes still on”. I’m just about to turn 67, actively gigging in two bands and getting involved with new musical ventures where I can. I don’t plan to stop until I have to.

This probably is more for you guys that are over 60 but not necessarily limited to that range. I'm 71 and most of the musicians I grew up with and started playing with are no longer gigging and have zero interest in it. Share your thoughts and position on why you're still gigging and why you think some guys lose interest. Daryl

£22 for two sets of D'Addario Nickel on Amazon

I ordered some this morning and they're due to be delivered tomorrow, fingers crossed. Hopefully this will turn out better than the last time I bought strings on Amazon... I received a mobile phone case. -

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?

Thanks for the additional details Axe. Interesting scenario. With this singer's background and experience I'm surprised the audition didn't go better for him. Daryl -
Bloody hell. Over 500 views today.

Nearly there. Patitucci's bass part on 'One Hand, One Heart' from the same 'West Side Story' recording. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/one-hand-one-heart-dave-grusin/

I got a little lift-off lid flight case for mine so it can live in the case when being used. As per the end of this Facebook thread - the udggear case. https://www.facebook.com/groups/3457246984538074/posts/3768296876766415/

More progress today, putting the side dots into the fretboard, fitting the fibre optic strands and glueing the fretboard to the neck -

I’ve owned and loved this bass for many years, it’s light, has a thin silky smooth neck and sounds just so right in most styles of music. The way it balances on the strap is amazing and it feels and plays like a 34” scale but it’s a 35 as they all are. it’s serial number dates it to one of the first 100 basses produced and has the bart pickups and original preamp. I replaced the bridge for a genuine USA Lakland one but couldn’t get one without the logo as it would have been originally. Apart from that it’s totally standard and un touched. Condition is virtually as new, there is a small mark on the front near where your thumb goes but it’s hard to show in a picture or see even when you are close up. Other than that, it’s dam near perfect. It has the original lakland hard shell case as well. I’m not even sure I want to sell it so won’t be accepting offers because I believe it’s priced very reasonably already. I would like a Yamaha BBP35 or similar PJ 5 string so px is possible with cash. I am looking for 2 x 112 vanderclay 600w cabs as well. thanks for looking

I would agree with your summary. I don't like telling people their bass is not as good another bass, so always try to tread gently. As you say Sire offer a lot of features for the money, and their finish for the price is pretty good, however the Anaconda probably fits into a bracket above Sire, both in pricing and performance. I am a bit out of touch with the higher end US built instruments these days. Probably a decade ago I tried a Fender USA P5 which did nothing for me and I found a Squier Modified P5 which I much preferred, even though the finishing on the US version was undoubtedly better. This can all get quite subjective. For me Andrew's basses are very carefully refined versions of the Fender design, the graphite reinforcing seems to make a noticeable difference to my ears, the neck profile is just that tiny bit more comfortable, the pickup and electronics add that tiny bit of extra oomph and flexibility. As a retired production engineer I know that the processes in use in some of the Chinese manufacturers now is close to what is used in prestige manufacturers in say the US. So apart from the Kudos of where things are made probably the key differences are now down to material choice, design and attention to detail on finishing and final set up. If you are based in the UK, a trip to see Andrew in his North London workshop is recommended, he is not only knowledgeable, but his show room is well set up. I tried an earlier version of the Essence there before I bought - I have added a write up here in case anyone is interested. Anaconda Basses visit a.pdf

I use one with no hassle; if all of the cable are coming from the back just be sure to place 2 of the 3 legs at the back.
