    Just got in from a Spacewasters gig at The Water Rats, Kings Cross, London. 4 bands on, with us in main support slot. Used my JMJ Mustang bass through the provided Ampeg Venture head and cab and the sound was great. We only had a line check but that’s no problem for us, we played well, with a nice groove and the set was well received. I wore my Skechers trainers and my foot is hurting, darn plantar fasciitis!

    It's a social thing as much as anything these days. I play in three different bands - I'm just shy of my 60's , and have been playing in bands since I was 17. The rehearsals are a chance to kick back, make some noise, and off-load from the previous week's happenings. Also, I usually meet up with the singer from one of the bands for breakfast on a Sunday - again just to put the world to rights as much as anything. If It wasn't for the bands, I don't think I'd meet up with anyone on a regular basis any more.....

    In my experience the BB P pickup compared to a P bass is quite different. It’s closer to the neck which gives it softer less honky sound, with more lows. The response is very fast, clean and tight. Sometimes I prefer it to a P, sometimes not.

    Back from our one hour slot at the Folk & Cider Festival. Local gig, only 15 minutes drive from home, plus an easy load in and out as it was PA provided, and had my two Uke basses in a double case, small pedalboard and monitor in a gig bag. The set consisted of a mix of Levellers songs plus other covers in a similar acoustic folk style - went down well, with dancers for the most part. Didn't manage to get a pic of the full setup, as we were quick setup and breakdown due to others playing either side of us on the bill, but got a crowd shot and my corner.... Captured the gig on my Zoom Hn4, so that's my job for tomorrow.....

    Just got home from seeing the wonderful ELO Experience with @Hamster & @Kebabkid at Epsom Playhouse with our very own @TPJ on bass and backing vocals! A fantastic show, grrat bass playing and so many great songs! Catch them if you can! 🎶🎸😎

    Ohh those lipsticks look sharp, I like that a lot. Personally, I'd be looking at a two piece bridge, LP shapes with typical bass bridges always look off to me. I recently picked up an LTD bass that uses a two piece design, just feels right on this shape.

    Most of the players that were around when I started are no longer playing, but there are some still at it. One of my mentors is still gigging with grace and dignity , he’s also a deadly bassist , so I still harbour the hope that I have some years left. Many had health issues , arthritic hands , bad hips and knees , playing involved pain , and was in some cases simply impossible. Some developed substance issues. Some just got tired of the late nights and early mornings. Some were disillusioned , and became sour. Some developed mobility issues. Our market is not large , most musicians need a day gig to get by. It can be a juggling act. Some spouses simply said no more. It can be a tough go. Things changed with the COVID shutdowns , some have yet to get back to how things were. Venues were lost. For many today things are tight. As many get older they’re less inclined to go out. We geezers have a unique perspective on the business , but things today are not like they once were. I’m still happy to load up the car and run the gear downtown. No big star , just a blue collar musician playing the local bars. I’m perfectly ok with that.

    Like @msb, I’ve been gigging since the mid ‘70s. What keeps me at it? Force of habit certainly has something to do with it. If I didn’t play with others, what else would I do? I’m not sure I’d actually keep playing much at all. Maybe that’s it, I keep playing because I play.

    I’m 73 , I’ve been playing in local bands since the mid 70’s. Mostly blues bands , years ago I decided to stop travelling , and today I mostly stay in town. We were caring for my 99 year old mother-in-law for some years and I did cut back on the gigs I was taking , she has passed , I’m available to do more now but I’m not looking , if things pick up , they pick up. I’m retired , I’m not dependant on the money. If I don’t feel there’s going to be some fun , I decline. Still do a weekly blues jam every Sunday , I’ve been in the house band for around 27 years now in the main blues dive downtown. A good Sunday gig has both extremes , some absolute misery , some absolute joy. I still love that feeling when things are working. I still practice every day. Some days I even think I’m improving. All the reason to keep at it. Never thought I’d be still at it at this point , still capable of feeling absolute joy playing. Still nerdy about gear.

    £80.00 WMD Parametric EQ in it's original box with user information sheet. This unit is in excellent unmarked condition and perfect working order. Great quality EQ in a compact pedal, tryout/collection welcome or insured UK postage for £8.00 There are 3 bands of EQ with frequency ranges from about 40Hz to 15kHz. Each band is an independent bandpass filter with adjustable center frequency, quality factor, and gain. Use them to sculpt and shape your tone however you like. Stomp Switch - This footswitch activates the EQ. The center LED will be lit when the pedal is engaged. Freq - This selects the center frequency of the filter. The three frequency ranges are: 31Hz to 1.6kHz, 100Hz to 4.8kHz, 300Hz to 16kHz. Q - The Quality Factor (Q) gives you control over the sharpness of the filter. Turn it up and the filter section becomes resonant and more abrasive. Low Q settings sound like a traditional EQ, higher Q adds resonant nodes. The Q ranges from about .1 to around 30. Level - This controls how much cut or boost you have from the band. Center it (0) and the band is out of the circuit. Turn clockwise and you'll get more of that frequency, turn counter-clockwise and you'll hear less. If all 3 controls are at 0, you should be able to click the pedal on and off and not hear any difference. Overall Level - This gives a overall cut or boost at the output of the Parametric EQ. Like a volume control, but with some gain available.
