Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?
Richard R replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
The gear was interesting on that video, but the bass faces were hilarious! -

Does Your Covers Band Change Songs? What Changes and Why?
Phil Starr replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
I'm the newbie and there's quite a few things above that on the list of things to be having chats about that will refine the set. Things are really positive and moving forward, I need to be selective and focus. I feel your pain, I was going to ask if these are ongoing issues or whether you've joined a band who have been cheerfully getting it wrong for years but I think I know the answer. This is the years of playing together with mistakes accumulating and nobody listening to the originals. Youve probably got a guitarist (usually the guitarist) who thinks learning a song is just knowing the chords to verse and chorus. I reckon a lot of these 'simplifications' are down to a rehearsal 20 years ago where someone turned up under prepared and blagged their way through it and blagged their way through the song covering up their lack of preparation by convincing the rest of the band that 'this is better'. However you are being the grow up. The audience are probably not noticing and having a good time and I'd settle for some nice people and regular gigs over arguing an ending or guitar solo. Well I would nowadays -

Hi Chaz, from what you've introduced yourself, you sound like a real multi-talented person. Someone who plays bass with Sterling Ray4s, owns a six-string guitar, co-founded a chili sauce brand, and even made it onto Masterchef – that's a really interesting combination!

Educate me on Trace Elliot V-Type preamp

Passive tone stack is not everyone's cup of tea. When nationally flat is bass 2, mids 10, treble 2. there isn't a lot of room to maneuver. -

How do i clear my photo cache on the site?
tauzero replied to JGSpector's question in Site Issues and Questions
It's also advisable to resize your pictures so they're a reasonable file size, if you haven't already done that - 4MB pictures will rapidly eat up your allowance. And if you give them fairly meaningful names, and need to reuse the pictures, you can use "Other Media" | "Insert existing attachment" to do that. -

Messy or not, what's on your (music) work desk right now?
tauzero replied to kiat's topic in General Discussion
I think we were separated at birth. What you could try (with no guarantee that this will work) is to put up four 8' x 1' (if we're insisting on using antique measurements) shelves above the current desk-like object, and transfer the topmost strata from said desk-like object to the shelves. This will also allow you to impose a temporary organisation on the objects thereby moved, and possibly even dispose of some of them (unlikely, I know, but you may find the right hard place in your heart). -

If you are tempted by that, you might like the new Fodera / Trickfish pre. Same price, and with endless eq options. Both are beyond what I’d pay for a pedal (but I do own a Motown DI which is also not cheap, with zero eq options and it has been in daily use here for around maybe 10 years or so).

Rather ironic given that the USA had brought in legislation mandating which side the foot controls should be and determined that the gear shift should be on the left, where the Japanese had it, not the right, where the Americans and British had it.

Our singer works for a dog rescue charity - a small scale one, it's not Battersea Dog's Home. We've done a charity gig for them, in a village hall, with helpers doing the drinks sales and suchlike. We were quite happy to do that unpaid. Mrs Zero and I have also been in another band which did a couple of charity gigs - again, these were local charities and we knew the organisers. We did do one where we got paid - we gave half our fee back.
