The very first gig I went to was at the music Machine ( now koko?) The lineup was Quartz (headlining ) , Girl ( second on the bill) ,and Praying mantis.! Girl was awfully loud and not enjoyable at all ! The 2 loudest indoor gigs I’ve been to , Iron Maiden metal for muthas at the Lyceum ,and Manowar at Hammy O on the Blow Your speaker’s tour ! You had a feeling that Manowar did use All of the Marshall Stack ! A great gig though and we were near the back of the venue. Regarding the Maiden gig , we managed to stay until halfway through the song of the second encore ! ( How many encores were there ?) Many of us couldn’t take any more . This wasn’t helped by Mr Dianno asking the guy at the mixing desk to turn it up ! @police squad have you had band discussion yet?

Lovely! Am I right in thinking that the resin in the neck has some blue tint? I’ve only seen that a few times, both times in a red tint. Very rare and stunning colour. The horns on these earlier passion basses were wider than later on. It’s a great shape that hangs well from a strap. The silver lines on the body - they used to be slices of ‘delta metal’ when Vigier used them under the fingerboard before the carbon necks. I’m not sure but that could be the same here unless they’re painted on.

As per the title, we're looking for a quality bass player who's into the genre, who can commit to regular rehearsals with a view to playing some cool gigs down the line. We are a drummer (me) and two guitarists (one of whom performs lead vocals), rehearsing in Newbury and Andover. Creative mindset, contribution to songwriting and BVs encouraged! Demos can be found here: https://barrowriffs.bandcamp.com/album/barrow-3 The idea would be to learn a couple of the demo tracks, then come along for a jam to see how we vibe. I'd love to do it myself, but alas, I have felt the call of drums for this one. Great opportunity for a fellow forum member/gear afficionado to dust off those vintage amps, guitars and boutique fx pedals!

I’ve got a dilemma now though. Recently picked up a fretless to match the fretted but it’s faded to nearly yellow. It’s going to be impossible to match a strap to it, and because I use a Backbeat it’ll be easier to have one strap for both. Gone for my old 90’s ‘Slapstrap’ which is super comfy and a bit of a classic

Exactly! Off from this thread, I recommend you the film Tous les matins du monde. P. S. Sir, sorry about the verb "hate", but somehow it fits this thread of exaggeration, and strong personal opinions. -
Me and my friend walked out of a Black Star Riders gig a few years ago , because we thought they were dreadful !( sorry 😬)

Which component is it? I can take a look CPC is owned by us but they operate entirely independently and have their own stock including their own pricing. They might be selling it at a lower margin, or even cost to burn off stock (at farnell we're not allowed to do that but at CPC they are sometimes)

Bizarrely ..VHS Bass Tuition videos . Trying to improve my bass playing on a massive scale , I decided to get a few videos by my favourite bassists of the time . Hot licks ! ( No not those types ) , featuring the likes of Rudy Sarzo, Randy Coven, stu Hamm and Billy Sheehan and Michael Manring. All very ‘80s . Very cheesy ! My experiences? Well the Rudy video was great ! The Randy Coven was hysterical ! ( Imagine Sylvester Stallone in an ‘80s hair metal band totally out of it) The stu Hamm was too advanced for me , and the Michael Manring one was Bass Geek Tedium and even more advanced ! Bear in mind , those VHS Tapes were very expensive ! No you tube in those days ! I was working long hrs , socialising many days of the week and I couldn’t put in the necessary time to get anywhere near the truly advanced stage . 😮💨

Sax player wanted for 80s covers band. 80s covers band, presently three piece (guitar, bass, drums) would love to add a sax player to really give the band a massive boost. We are looking for someone, maybe from a jazz background, who is comfortable without charts, working out their own parts, and perhaps having to try to work out other instrument parts and melodies to make up for gaps in the line up... Think about little keyboard motifs in songs and playing them on sax rather than having to hire a keyboard player... If you can sing a bit too that's great. Looking to do pub gigs and local festivals, nothing extravagant, but just want to be very, very good at it. If this appeals to you, or someone you know, please get in touch!

Very early days but me (bass) has grabbed the drummer from my current band and guitarist from a previous band to get together and play 80s covers. Ages from early 40s to early 50s. We have played together a bit as a three piece and we work well together, we now want to add a singer and a sax player further down the line. Looking to do local (Herts, Essex, Bedfordshire) pub gigs and festivals, nothing too ambitious but we want to be a good quality band. Current set list is very guitar driven but it's early enough to change things based on the singer who comes in. The singer we are looking for: male or female we don't mind at all, just as long as you have stage presence and can confidently sing a range of tunes from the era; must be excited about being in an 80s band because the music of the decade is awesome; age is not important; available to rehearse in Hertford weekly or every other week; comes to rehearsal with a good idea of how the agreed songs go and where the vocal cues are; has sung in bands before; plays a part in song choices musical arrangement; I think that's it! Going to do some rough recordings soon to give an idea of the feel we are creating so far.

A "pro tip" for Bandmix... If you're a bass player who does backing vocals, don't add "bass vocals" to your profile, unless you want to join a barber shop quartet or something!

Venues are well aware they sound bad. They just have to comply with the local authorities regarding noise pollution. The problem is that they sell it to the clients as a positive thing. Conversely we advise them of the limitations of the system at the point where they book us. There is a whole section of our contract dedicated to absolving us of blame for the quality of the final sound when these systems are involved. It also covers them not informing us at the time of booking. In the world of wedding bands you just need to accept limiters and in house systems. If you refuse to play the game you just get far less work. Its part of why function bands charge more than pub bands. We are essentially just a pub band that are prepared to put up with more grief.
