  2. all the answers are good. The thing is that you really don't need to oversize. The resistance of the cable is going to be close to zero because you are dealing with a really short length. As to power handling you hve to remember the speaker is playing music not continuous current. Most of the time there is little or no signal and any note you play decays quite quickly. It's normal to think in terms of a duty cycle of 15-20% but that is allowing for a considerable safety margin, under 10% might be more 'real world' use so 20W for your 225W speaker would be a more reasonable rating. The voice coil of your speaker is wound with hair thin copper wire only slightly thicker than the strands in your cables and that doesn't burn out in normal use. Like @Stub Mandrel I use a couple of cores from any mains cable laying around most of the time, even 1mm lighting cable is plenty big enough. The reason speaker cables use thicker wire is to keep resistance to a minimum on longer cable runs. That's not relevant for the 40cm wire inside the cab.
  3. Luck of the draw really, I managed to find a 95 stingray that weighs 8.6lbs...they do exist if you look hard enough lol.
  4. The hardness of the fingerboard mainly makes a difference to the percussiveness of the sound. A graphite neck with phenolic fingerboard will sometimes add a "shimmer" to the sound too. But you do often find that there's a big difference in attack and percussiveness, for instance when one maple fingerboard is glossed and another isn't. There are a huge amount of variables at play. So are you keeping the "chunkier" maple neck on your 'Ray, KillerFridge?
  5. I’d agree, and I don’t see a lot of scope for lateral movement there
  6. So which one of you is the Gordon Murray of the Bass World? It is utterly fascinating, but I generally don't take things apart. I have been genuinely surprised at how light my GB Spitfire & 95 Stingray are, though. Also, has anyone found that lighter basses seem to resonate better?
  7. Very nice, these look much better than the NJS line to my eye

  9. Interesting. I'd always thought of string spacing as the distance between each string, rather than the length of the string.

  11. So the question is would this knock someone out of the running??
  12. Kingdom Cone. (Obscure 90s metal band but good bass player)
  13. I think @itu is right. A standard 9V battery can't supply huge amounts of current, and between any losses in the step-down circuit and the start-up draw of the pedal it probably can't cope. You can try it from the 9V pedal supply, that ouught to be able to handle the startup current. If that doesn't work then it may be the lighter circuit is a problem. A 9V-5V converter is only a few quid on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Converter-Module-Transformer-Voltage-Regulator/dp/B09B829DL9 It's also designed for the job. If none of that works then an alternative could be to use a USB power bank as the 5V supply, strapped under the pedalboard.

  16. Let me know what 42mm wide 5 strings you come up with.
  17. Replied, and thanks for all the bass ❤️
  18. Very reasonably priced for such a fantastically simple and effective compressor

  20. I saw them on Thomann at that price and had to do a double take - what a bargain, I’d love to have one of these in the rack for that money! It said 1-2 weeks for stock tho when I saw it, so I couldn’t buy, Cort basses are so wildly underrated it’s not even funny! Between this and the NJS you probably have the two best sub £1000 basses available at the moment
  21. +1 to not over-tighten the locking screws(A). I did that on one of mine on my 1989 Ibanez SR800LE and it fractured the saddle. Trying to find another new or used 206/omni-adjust bridge is near impossible so I had to repair using JB Weld. The only other viable option would be a bridge replacement for something more modern. Luckily the repair has held so far and I just leave well alone now.
  22. You can get colour matching wax filler that you melt into the holes, like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325271292000. I used it when I was drilling new pickup screw holes on a bass and carelessly went right through, and the repair is completely invisible.
