  2. I agree, I find it quite baffling regarding the comments on Adam Clayton, who bass lines couldn't be further from playing just root notes, at least no more or no less than any other rock band like Queen, Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi or Iron Maiden. He also plays in the rock genre and is simply serving the song, the role of any good bass player. Plus it's about iconic bass lines and not virtuoso player, if you look at bass lines like Under Pressure, Come As You Are, New Years Day, Love Will Tear Us Apart, Money, all very recognisable so iconic, but certainly not hard to play or on any level of virtuoso.
  3. I dont have a hardcase for this bass, but you dont have to worry about the shipping-it will be packaged well.
  4. Lovely condition, analogue version from 1997. Sounds ace, very lush or subtle, great for the 80s pop.
  5. Sign me up would love a baritone telecaster with that finish!
  6. First coats of poly on the Wenge and Elm J bass Paulownia Musicman and Walnut shortscale P bass finished with their satin nitro alongside @HeadlessBassist Walnut J bass that’s is all polished waiting for its graphite neck to arrive.
  7. I polished the frets for the very first time on a bass over the weekend. I masked off the fretboard and pickups, used some 0000 wire wool then metal polish and finally lemon oil for the board. The frets have come up a treat. Especially pleased as I'd never done a fret polish before.
  8. Both! 🙂 I was inspired by this one and she helped me a lot with the design work... We work together in a advertising agency.
  9. I have a very, very old set of Chromes on a P bass. They are perfection. I fancied the 5 string experience. So I put a set on a 33" bass I have. This has a bar behind the nut as an all purpose string retainer thang. It was horrible. They were tight and super unforgiving. Was this because of the vicious break angle behind the nut? This does not feel like an issue with the round core nickels I have on the bass usually.
  10. Today
  11. Krist played some excellent lines with Nirvana and Nate Mendel is hugely underrated as a bassist and musician ( not just Foos but Sunny Day Real Estate too ), again his lines are great and not ' pounding out root notes' by any means. Jaco they aint but their lines, melodies and support are perfect for the songs and they do their job of filling the space excellently.
  12. You can see how much space you need on Pedal Playground so have a play on there, add the pedals you need and see what takes your fancy for a layout. When it comes to power, you really do get what you pay for and unfortunately they are expensive things. The critical thing for you are the Zoom (and possibly the Ditto) pedals. With digital pedals you really want them on an isolated output and so it would be best to have at least one output that's isolated from the rest for the Zoom. I don't have any experience with the ditto units, someone else may be able to advise you if they also need to be isolated, both from the rest of the pedals and also from the Zoom. The rest should be able to share. Do be careful with power supplies. The voltage and polarity of the power supply's output and the pedal's input needs to match EXACTLY. The amperage of the supply needs to meet or ideally exceed the draw of the pedals. There are websites that can tell you what your pedals need in terms of power if you don't already have them. Just google something like 'tc ditto power draw'. The Lekato that you link to looks as though it doesn't provide enough power for at least the Zoom (which I bet needs more than 200mA). It is possible to buy adaptor cables to do pretty much whatever you want though, so you could 'add up' several of the 200mA outputs on that board to get the required power for the Zoom, but now we're getting into the weeds and you already have too much to think about. And the design seems odd, why would you want the cables hanging over the edge like that? Personally I have used and liked the Pedaltrain and the Templeboard boards, as well as Thomann own brand, Cioks and Strymon power supplies. If I was you and on a budget then I would either make my own board from whatever I had laying around or buy one of the pedaltrain style copied from Amazon. Then I'd hope the Thomann branded power supplies did what I needed.
  13. I have an old, surplus-to-requirement, 15" McKenzie speaker. I'm guessing it's from the 1980's or early 1990's, and it's rated at 200w and of 8ohms impedance. The chassis is cast alloy. It will be posted in a proper speaker carton, but if you want to collect I'll knock off the price of the postage and include a cup of tea. £40 posted. Thanks, Jackroadkill
  14. Like I think most of my list of diy pedals I want to build sometime to try are on there! (And only one and a half I’ve already built )
  15. It works well within the context of U2, but would you describe him as a virtuoso?
  16. I was running it into a Barefaced Big Twin 2, mostly using my pair of Maruszczyk Frog 6-strings. I’ve been using an Ashdown RM-800 as my primary head for some time, so that was my benchmark in terms of tone, volume, etc. Agedhorse made some suggestions earlier in this thread about how to use the EQ (which works additively, effectively as volume controls for certain frequencies), but, even with that, I couldn’t get the gain up past about 10 o’clock without the whole thing fuzzing up. I like some hair on my tone, but I also like to be able to not have it. And using the EQ controls in the manner they were intended to be used did make things louder, but not sufficiently so for me. I owned a Bass 400+ back in the day too, and I don’t recall ever having issues with getting a clean tone with that, with it only getting furry when you hit it hard, and in a pleasant, “creamy” sort of way. If you cranked the input gain it would fuzz out, but only towards the extreme end of the gain knob. I’m not giving up on Mesa though. Probably going to revisit the WD-800 at some point - I had one for a while and liked it a lot, but couldn’t justify holding onto two heads at the time.
  17. Glad (wrap) All Over - Dave Clark Five
  18. Keeley Bassist - Boxed, Very good condition, velco fitted, no power supply. £120 Source Audio Hot Hand 3 - boxed. Think I plugged this in 10 years ago and couldn't be bothered with the learning curve. The rubber finish on the receiver is starting to go tacky, no idea what to ask for this, £30? Ampeg SGT-DI - Hasn't left the house, small mark above the "aux in" but otherwise very good knick. £230. Prices include UK shipping, any questions please ask, cheers!
  19. We appear to have had two miracles this weekend, the England rugby team managed to wallop the All Blacks and we have had a day of non rainy weather. So I've managed to warm the glue as its rather cold, Cut down two panels for two cabs, I have two new cabs and one slightly not-so-good-not-as-neat-as-I-would-like-it-now-going-to-become-a-spray-booth-cabinet. practise makes perfect or in my case, slightly better than the last one. I've cut down the first cabs baffle so it's going to hold the 3d printed blue air filter. I've also assembled and glued three quarters of one new cab and that's all clamped up waiting for the glue to dry. As it gets dark quite early here, I didn't get around to the second cabinet, but now the pieces are cut, I can do something’s indoors. Still need to cut the holes for the loudspeaker but that'll have to wait for next weekend now.
  20. Polythene Pam — The Beatles
  21. It really is a great pedal
  22. Recently took this wonderful Nordstand Power Blade 4 out of one of my P basses as I've been looking for a more vintage tone. The pickup has the black magnets (which have some wear from playing) for the stealth look and has an amazing, punchy modern p tone with a very lovely mid range presence. Can include the black pickup screws that came with it. £80 delivered ono
