Indeed. I can't remember anyone complaining in this vein about Neural Amp Models, or Quad Cortex Captures, amp plugins etc, yet all AI based. I don't even know where the line is these days, in what is truly defined as AI.

It is intelligent in the same way humans are intelligent, that is it has the means ('senses') to interact with information and the inherent capacity to restructure what it has sensed ('learn') on the basis of new information. Re sentient, see above, it's probably going to become a semantic as opposed to technical debate as time goes on

100W Stoneham valve amp - small footprint, lighter weight
Matt P replied to Merton's topic in Amps and Cabs
@Ruarl The first prototype is still under construction so you're not too late, I believe that the prototype will be out in the wild for testing at some point so hopefully there will be opportunity for people to try it out and give some feedback before that production amps are built, I don't think these will be limited either as i'd imagine that Martin will be building them to order as i think he does for other amps, but as Stoneham is a small one-man (i believe) operation there might be a waiting list. Interesting how "AI" is being blamed, rather than computers. Those of a certain age may remember when computers became a thing in the workplace and the jobs that were lost, and disappeared, as a result. And 2 things that should always be remembered in an discussion about AI: AI is a misnomer, there is no 'intelligence', and it is definitely not sentient. There is not one AI, it's an umbrella term for lots of different computer applications that do different things in different ways.

Saw that one myself and was sorely tempted. Congrats on a fine looking bass 👍

I joined a new 'second' band last month, and at a practice with them they have an XR18 and each have a P16-M, and it is genuinely amazing - I have been playing with a mono IEM for many years now, but after that one practice, I don't want to do that any more! Luckily for me, I don't have to as the singer and guitarist don't have IEMs, they don't like them, so it is me and the drummer, so no problem getting stereo apart from the wireless. I use an XVIve iem, which I am happy with, but la while back I bought a really cheap lekato MS-1 that was just over £30. I assumed it would be poor, and because I got something else at the same time, I never got round to trying it. I tried it last night, and it really worked well. So I have a gig on Sunday and I am going to use it there.

I have two '73 Jazzes here and neither of them have a board like that. Mine are clearly thick veneers and follow the radius of the board which results in a slight curve in the rosewood at the headstock end. I'd like to know when Fender started putting slab boards on Jazz basses in the 70's......

If anyone is inclined to opt out of this month's challenge due to real or imagined ethical concerns about this months pic being AI generated, here's a pic of the real Ralph in a rare moment of being awake during rehearsal, guarding my pedalboard for some reason. -

It likely did, in the same way Spotify does now, given that we're reminded continuously that they pay naff all. People more switched on realise streaming services aren't about making money, they're an EXCELLENT free marketing tool, and invaluable for grass roots music. But, like AI, that's another subject people get upset about.

This is basically what I do. One of my bands is a 7-piece and I have the Behringer XR18 with 6 Aux sends. Each of the other band members gets their mono IEM or wedge monitor feed from one of the Aux sends, and I use the main mix for my own IEMs (cable running from MAIN R output into the back of my transmitter) - I haven't tried it in stereo yet but it's got to be done! Nothing you do to the main mix will affect the Aux mixes but any changes to channel input gains will affect everyone. The 1U rack unit at the bottom is a Midas DN4816-O. An ethernet cable runs from the XR18's Ultranet socket to the back of the Midas, which I have set up to (mostly) output the corresponding channel immediately after the gain control - effectively an 'analog split', but done digitally. The sound guy/gal can just wire up the outputs of the Midas and do a completely independent FOH mix. (OT: You'll see that there are holes in the XR18's rack mount ears. I made these with a step drill and fitted rubber grommets, and they are big enough to pass an XLR plug through. It took a fair bit of effort but has been well worth it for the convenience.)
