Help with identifying this gender jazz bass
Mrbigstuff replied to bigmuff69's topic in General Discussion
Just seen the case and candy second time looking. Case is the same as the 2000 fender Dlx jazz I had, and not sure why anyone would go to the lengths of obtaining the tools, catalogues and tags for a £700 sale. - Today

I think it depends on the use case of the two I mentioned previously. Personally, when I'm playing, give me all the control, if it took a 9V from my PSU, that's all good with me. Footswitch? Knobs? Load 'em up. It's when I'm running the desk I want as few frills as possible. When I'm reaching for the DI that's in my peli it's because the player wasn't adequately prepared with their own solution, so now they get the cheap and cheerful DI I keep in there. Of course, the unfortunate reality is that no single solution will satisfy every single user. So, with that in mind, I'd say make the DI you want to make, and let the intended audience find it. I use cheap and cheerful DI's in my peli because: 1. I need to be absolutely sure it'll work. 2. I don't care if it goes for a walk afterwards. Something like you've designed, that'd be going on my board, that'd be my nice DI. That's where I'm interested in having all the ideal conditions, the controls, the high impedance.

Things are a little stale with my band too. Regardless, I'm still in the best bands I can be in. Daryl
-
Suppose it depends on what you're used to. The BZ-4000 was about the same as their JB-75, over 12lbs. I've nearly 45 years as a joiner under my belt. One length of 4 x 2 weighs 27lbs, two length on the left shoulder is common site practise. All comes down to balance, get that right and you don't notice 🙂

THIS THURSDAY! 6-9pm. Live rockin’ blues and $5 brews! The Annex At Foxtown Mequon WI. Looks like a cool music venue . However, I'm concerned about Thursday night. Also it seems like the other bands that play there are a few notches above us. Daryl

Tablet stand recommendations please
tauzero replied to StingRayBoy42's topic in Accessories and Misc
I got a cheapie off Ebay, similar to https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284697979139 (same tablet as you). A couple of others at an open mic I go to have the same one. Works well, though I've found that to keep the tablet pointing up at the sort of angle you'd have a music stand at, you need to grip the tablet across the bottom. Maybe I should try using the holder lengthwise instead of widthwise <makes note to do that when I've got the tablet holder out of the car>. -

jay bass started following Rumble 800 combo not loud enough??
-
I would also advise the use of a High Pass Filter at the sort of levels you are playing this eliminates all the sub bass energy that your speakers are trying to handle and you cant actually hear. Set around 40 Hz shgould be fine, but to get full power you will need another 8Ohm cab to go with the combo. i use the Rumble Stage 800 for a backline and rarely go above 12 o clock on the volume and often dont need much through the PA, if i need the extra power for a large gig i have another rumble 2x 10 cab i can use. i use a Broughton Hi pass filter to stop all the unwanted speaker flap etc.

That tends to be an attribute of HB basses in general.

chrisgriff started following 1978 oly white Fender P *now £2,100*

It’s a custom - the standard config is J/J and I’ve seen a few H/H and S/H but not a P/MM before. This one has a 3 way series/split coil/parallel toggle switch as well which is unusual. The top isn’t standard either - the pitting and holes are left exposed but they use a resin to stabilise it. It’s also a custom colour apparently.

kodiakblair started following Harley Benton 6 string.
-
Not the 6 string. Bought the 4 string version back in 2014. It was a sturdy bit of kit, ebonol fretboard will likely out live 5 generations. Pretty sure a couple of BC'ers bought the 6 string, @Owen ?, a lad from New Zealand started a thread when landing the 7 string. Went by the name "Annoying Twit", should be easy enough to find that thread. Oh, don't know if it applies to later versions but "weighty" was often used to describe the early ones 👍
-
Lovely! Is that a standard model with the P/MM pickups?
-
I was wondering about a Godin A5, then at an open mic night I encountered somebody with one and had a feel of it. Far too chunky a neck for my liking. How does the GB-notreally5-4 neck compare to the A4, @Frank Blank?

I once owned a Godin A8 mandolin, and despite it sounding reasonable, nearby objects were attracted to move to it such was the gravitational pull brought about by the sheer mass of the thing. It would have made a decent weapon in a pub fight, but was far too heavy for something calling itself a Mandolin.

Serial not found is a big red flag the blocks probably are stickers, but the ferrule and string retainers look a bit hooky to me, exactly as they did to @HeadlessBassist I’d say it was a bitsa -

That's very true. -
@log That's the spirit my friend. The internet is stacked with naysayers but that's no reason why we should listen to them 😀 If I may offer another tip, for when new strings funds allow. Before swapping them over, outline the current bridge position on the body with masking tape. It's unlikely the old position will be perfect but it will be close enough to avoid starting the process from scratch. Play in good health 👍

Help with identifying this gender jazz bass

Surely it's the gender that it self-identifies as. -
That is a pretty thing! I love how the bottom of the bridge matches the curve of the body, very elegant.
