  1. Past hour
  2. I’ve just uploaded additional shots of the fret slots on the neck. As you can see the lower side binding has virtually no interference from the fret removal process. The top side wasn’t quite so lucky …..not totally dreadful by any means but the lower side of the neck is where you would feel any disruption to the surface more so that’s good. Hopefully these additional photos help.
  3. A relatively low turnout for the most local jam last night. Unfortunately, I mistimed things and was on bass when some of the guitar or keyboard players who don't have charts or a clear explanation of the form were up. They usually like tunes which I haven't heard, or with which I am only vaguely familiar, and which may not even be "proper jazz" (whatever that is). I've heard it said that in the proper jazz tradition one should learn tunes on the bandstand without charts. But, I am not a top-notch New York player and my bum notes as I try to work out what's being played will not be enjoyable (even if the audience don't notice). At least I did get a chance to do Midnight Blue on guitar, which I have wanted to play for months, and wasn't too bad.
  4. Thank you, it's really helpful to get a fresh perspective on it! I should have said, I was using The Doors' When the Music's Over as a reference...though I think I've deviated from it a fair bit. I think you're right about the vocal - I was trying to give the track a bit of 'bite' but I probably went too hard on the compressor. (Perhaps this would work better on a parallel track?) Good shout on parallel processing the drums as well. The drummer did send me an extra track where he'd added some distortion to the whole kit: might try squashing that and bringing it up just under the main drum bus. Thanks again!
  5. Price reduced Lovely Amp. Blackstars up to date take on the Roland Jazz Chorus Stereo amplifier with added Modelling and effects. its a 100 watt 2 x10 combo and certainly loud enough for gigs. Weighs about the same as my old 50 watt Boss Katana 1x12 It works from the front panel but deep dives magnificently when you add the Free Blackstar Architect ( previousy insider) Mac/PC library editor. Preset download from the Blackstar community gives you access to a gazillion different sounds too if you’re about that. Works totally fine. It’s had a baby-ed home studio existence since birth (2017) and certainly never gigged. My guitar playing at home in the studio has taken me on a different journey ( one that involves Open Source NAM Computer Modelling and headphones ) having a great stage amplifier like this simply makes no sense any more. If you want to part ex against something musically related we could certainly have a conversation about that though I’d certainly not ( initially ) be looking to spend any money from my side unless it’s something mind boggling-ly special. there’s no footsitch but tgeee. An be obtained if that is a requirement

  9. When I was a kid we all tuned to the A on one guitar and then tuned our own instruments, in my case using the fifth fret method. We were no doubt well off concert but at least we were all in tune with one another. That all went sour when the soul band was joined by a couple of sax players. But I don’t think anyone noticed.
  10. I've had the bass about eight years and it's been fine, but recently moved from a cold drafty Victorian house to a more modern place with better insulation, so I'm guessing that's why the wood has moved.
  11. Yeah I agree very nice sounding cabs albeit heavy for lifting I recall GLWTS
  12. When I am learning new songs, I like making a playlist with them so that I listen to them frequently... in the car, while at work... it's not as efficient as actually trying to memorise it, but it's very low effort and it's amazing how much your brain can pick up without really trying. Of course, that's in addition to actual practice
  13. Just to confirm this is a ‘Made in Germany’ bass. It is a lovely weight too at just 7.9lbs (as per Mark at Classic and Cool), making it the lightest Precision style bass I have ever owned.

  15. Pair of Marshall Guv’nors up for grabs. On the left is the original MK1, made in England model, on the right, the slightly later (but still vintage) Korean model, including box. Both are well used (MIE model especially) but both still working well and sound great. The occasional crackle from a knob (they are both 30+ years old) but nothing majorly affecting use. £150 each, including uk postage.
  16. I suppose a major Specials fan who plays bass could buy it and it ends up as their number one bass that they play every day and will cherish. I think £20k is steep for any bass but to someone that could be doable. If a Bruce Foxton or JJ Burnel owned Precision came up that had been used in their original work then I`d be tempted, however I already have my fave bass so it would be a waste for me as nothing replaces that.
  17. Two channel digital delay, 4 modes (copy, analog, modulation and reverse delay), it can take a footswitch as well (not included) Great condition, home use only.
  18. This is pretty normal on basses and cellos. It just needs gluing and clamping. It's almost regular maintenance ( regular being decade hopefully). My (all wood) cello had it several times, especially when I lived in South Korea with 5% humidity. A £10,000 bass I borrowed from Tim Tofts had a side split like that ( would have been fixed if I'd bought it ).q
  19. See, anyone coming to this thread now means that comment doesn't make sense
  20. Great looking bass, and IIRC, they sound absolutely fantastic, courtesy of those Darkstar pick ups. Only time I can recall seeing/hearing one in action was some years ago at one of the many South East Bass Bashes when they were held in Addlestone... It belonged to @obbm I believe. Anyway, best of luck with the sale! 👍 😊
  21. It’s £20,000 for bragging rights on a non original Fender bass you can buy for much less elsewhere. It’s just publicity for the auction.
