  2. I've had my eyes on getting myself a 5 string BTB (but not one of the older, standard models) however I've seen and heard several comments from various reviews (notably Low End Lobster) about the edge of the body 'digging in' to the forearm rendering the bass uncomfortable to play. Does anyone who plays/has played one of these suffered this experience ? I'd appreciate your thoughts please Thanks
  3. Today
  4. Saturday night. Our small 300 seat historic theatre, The Bend. A 5 minute drive for me. British recording artist Joanne Shaw Taylor. Front row seat. Daryl
  5. If you've got an airing cupboard, put the heads in there to help them dry out. Might be worth doing a bit of a strip down to the soldering station to see what's happened in there.
  6. Dave, I probably should have said bad performances. We're very selective about what gigs we take and have no problem saying " no ". Daryl
  7. Mouldy covers need a good wash and dry outdoors in the sun. Soldering station got saturated? That's a bit scary. MDF may suffer but anything else should be ok drying out naturally. Any build guarantee on your new digs? Rain does not blow in a properly constructed house.
  8. I had one - it couldn't keep up with a quite quiet band which didn't have a drummer, just a cajon.
  9. I'm halfway to making a circular saw sled inspired by @Bill Fitzmaurice's sled as outlined in his subwoofer plans - I've screwed a length of batten the same length as the width of the ply sheet to the end of the ply sheet. Next stage, when I've got a decent blade for my (t)rusty Black & Decker [1][2], is to cut across the sheet with the batten as a guide, and then all I have to do is put the edge of the sled along the line I want to cut and it will cut along it. That's the plan, anyway. [1] Whose sister Carol did such a magnificent job of singing for T'Pau [2] That should double its value
  10. I just bought a DCM Micro from Seva - Super easy to deal with, clear communication and quick delivery exactly as described. As others have said, I'd buy from them again without hesitating. Cheers!
  11. Ok, I popped a set of TI flats on the jazz and despite the state of the frets, it plays and sounds absolutely sublime. Just needs a minor setup to suit myself, otherwise I'll leave it at that. The chap who I bought it from, acquired it 20yrs ago. Never gigged during that time. Howard Livett, the original owner bought it new when he was 16yrs old apparently. When I clapped eyes on this, it was a no brainer 🙂.
  12. I once had the misfortune to play through an 1 x 8 elf combo, granted it was a large room, but it was woefully underpowered, no umph and poor projection, a million miles away from vintage Trace amps, maybe the 1 x 10 is better with an extra cab
  13. The finish is lovely. Or at least it is on mine. Photoflame? Seems to be quilted maple according to every description I've found. Neck is chunkier than I like, but it would be a good donor body for a graphite neck. Just deciding whether to order one off @Kiwi.

  15. Please see extensive update re: Sunday at the 1st post on Page 1 :
  16. Well, it seems I’ve had some bad luck. We were on holiday for a bit, so today for the first time in about two weeks I went to my study/music room, when I noticed a smell. I thought maybe it was something in the bin, or maybe my son (6) had been up here, but I didn’t find anything. After playing for a bit I decided it was bad enough that I really should find out what was causing the smell. It seems quite a lot of rain got in through the (closed) air vent above the non-opening window in our (fairly new) dormer - probably during storm Benjamin the other week. We’ve only been living in this house for about six months, and the weather apparently hadn’t been too terrible over here, so I never even thought to check. Unfortunately, this means it’s very likely that all of my amplification equipment was stood on a sodden piece of rug for about ten days… Two Vanderkley cabs (mould in the covers), a Genz Benz shuttle in a wet gig bag, an Eden WT550 head in a gator case and a 2008 Deluxe Reverb. The soldering station on the windowsill is standing in a puddle of orange liquid. Fortunately it seems my guitars have been spared. So how bad do you think this is? Obviously, I’ve moved everything to a dry place and I won’t be powering any of it on for a bit, but is there anything else I should (or shouldn’t) be doing? Thanks for reading, all tips are gratefully received!
  17. Portsmouth PMT I would have a long history with, as it was originally Telecoms, then Nevada. I bought all my first musical equipment there, my first new guitar (a westone concorde), electric piano, pretty well every effect boss did in the 80s, used to practically live there in the early 80s!
  18. Absolutely wouldn't be something I used (3 up or down), I guess they just put it there as they could
  19. I think it wise not to buy any vintage TE gear unless it's exactly what you really want. Don't compromise, you can almost predict that once you buy anything different, what you really wanted will be advertised for sale somewhere. New TE equipment is pretty expensive IMO, and although very good, sounds quite different to the vintage gear. I did see a guy playing rock/pop through an elf head with two of the single 10 cabs in a small pub and it sounded really good, but I'm not sure how that rig would perform in larger venues?

  21. Clearing out a lot of stuff that is just sitting in boxes under my desk. For sale is my EBS Microbass in Bass preamp and DI. Bought it on here a few years ago and used it for a number of tours for FOH and practice at home until it started to momentarily cut out on channel A intermittently but never for long, but long enough to not want to use it for live. Amazing sounding preamp and speaker sim and incredibly versatile. Probably could be used as a practice solution for somebody or perhaps somebody with tech knowledge or an interest in repairing things could fix it. £75 delivered. £65 delivered

  22. It really is a great pedal
  23. Excellent creative night tonight.
  24. No cover, though there was a cover that it lived in but I've taken that now for my hartke. I can't remember exactly but it came direct from EBS in Sweden in 2019 I think about autumn time. So coming up to 6 years, been well looked after.
  25. Had a debrief on Saturday night whilst waiting for drummer to arrive - he’d warned he’d be a bit late. Took the Tokai and Darkglass Anagram and plugged the latter into the effects return which worked well. Only the second time in anger, but it’s pretty intuitive so adding effects and tweaking foot-switch assignments was a couple of quick clicks. Once we got started a couple of new songs mapped out and a few songs for Saturday’s set run through .
  26. Just had a great rehearsal. We started by regining the structure ofour 'standout' song. Then my Deep Purple/Black Sabbath style slow riff song, and we added a double tempo bridge. Really chuffed thst everyone likes it. Then the backing singer shared something barely audible on his phone and I came up with a line that worked and everyone joined in, but this one is more like Kraftwerk so we're covering a fair range. Then we worked up a song the lead singer had previously recorded as just vicals and acoustic. We are all enjoying the creativity.
