I've gone and done it again....... This time it's a Mesa Boogie

Once you plug it in you will think "hmmm, that sounds lush, perhaps I could keep it for special occasions". -
@itu is it likely most bassplayers have a single, linear chain of pedals so that every pedal processes the previously processed signal? In many cases this is desired, eg to create a synth base effect with IN>Oct>Fuzz>Chorus>OUT. But surely also interesting sonically to layer effects on top of each other, rather than piped through each other. I wonder who is doing this out of the BCers here and what works for them.

800W Head with 1 x 300W & 1 x 600W Cab
Suburban Man replied to fionajas's topic in General Discussion
Not sure if any of this helps… If I’ve understood this right, you’ve got a 4 ohm cab and an 8 ohm cab running off the two speaker sockets on the back of the amp. Theory says that the load on the amp is nominally 2.7 ohms*. According to the amp spec it will, if pushed, knock out 1200 watts rms into that load. Because the speakers have different ratings and impedance the 4 ohm (115) cab will get twice the power - which could be 800w. The 112 cab could be getting 400w So, in theory you could be overloading the cabs if you’re playing with a lot of ‘attack’ - the instantaneous power being greater than rms. Practically speaking, it’s possible that some part of the speaker/amp chain was overheating when indoors - there could be up to 20A running through the speakers If you can, it might be worth trying out two cabs with 8ohm impedance and similar power handling? Or two 4ohm cabs wired in series? Or a high pass filter? *nominal because in practice the impedance is complex and varies with frequency -

Nice sounding amps, one venue we play has one as a house amp, a doddle to get a great sound quickly on a line check - always a sign of a good amp imo.
-
Dammit I love these guys.

Take it slowly, there’s no need to… err, yeah.

I've never knowingly heard Rush.

Had this amp a few years ago but moved it on The Little Bass Thing is a fine amp and I really liked the compressor and tube like feel of it. Will use with my MarkBass cabs and use as a second spare amp or alternate from using my LM IV

Thank you very much! I've spent an inordinate amount of time faffing around with cables and Dual Lock but I do really enjoy putting boards together. I sometimes take a picture of the other side too: the Rockboard routing options are excellent for stopping trailing wires flapping around. @pantherairsoft the Lutz is an impressive pedal. It's been engineered to within an inch of its life and weighs a ton, especially for a fuzz given they are usually simple circuits. The Lutz is more of a gated, sputtery monster but everything is tweakable. I'll send you a few demos. The low end retention is good (I just listened to it through headphones and it's a lot, especially with a cabsim to tame it) but I find I have to keep a few dials at max/near max to get the sound I like (as is often the case with non-bass-specific pedals). There are plenty of sounds in it, as you'd hope given it has three footswitches, five dials and two dip-switches. A world away from the Type One's simplicity! I will but that's one I'm hoping to hang onto!

I say more power to their respective elbows. It's their band and they can do what they like; I reckon by this point they've earned it.
-
I’m not a particular fan, like some of the songs, but I echo the sentiments of others, great that they want to get together and make some music. I don’t think gender of either the drummer or keyboard player is relevant really, genitalia doesn’t dictate that you can play an instrument better/worse, pick the people who do the job you want the best, and who you can get on with.

Thanks for pointing this out. Thread now torched.

Turned up to a new rehearsal space expecting an Ampeg 8x10 but found this Orange combo… at least I could put my Handbox WB100 to some use 🥲

If they deliver, keep both. Unless they've made you sign an agreement to return the original of course.

Perhaps a mod should consider merging the three current threads on Rush?

I agree that it doesn’t seem like a cash in exercise and, as stated before, it strikes me as two lifelong friends that have shared interests wanting to do what they love doing - putting on a show for their fans. We all know what effect performing in front of a crowd can have on your soul, imagine being denied that feeling that you’ve lived and played for as long as these guys have. I for one am pleased they’re collaborating with other musicians, yes it’ll be a little odd not seeing Neil behind the kit, and it’ll be odd if, as they’ve suggested, they bring in a keyboard player to free up Geddy to concentrate on his bass playing. If I can get a ticket to one of the Toronto dates, I’d be there in a heartbeat.

Guitar/bass valuations - any recommendations?

Thats auctions for you. To be fair they market things well and do a good job of de-stressing the whole process. You could always get more in a private sale, of course, but you need to sell it. -

I don’t know much about Rush, but unlike a lot of these tings it doesn’t seem like a cynical cash in (looking at you Oasis). More seems like lifelong friends who want to experience a big stage for possibly the last time.
