4-Pos/3-Pole Rotary Switch for two pickup wiring
MartinB replied to Immo's topic in Repairs and Technical
You just mean moving the loudest (serial) position to one end of the switch, right? So that when flicking between settings, you don't have to go "across" the loudest one. -
One of my fave Journey songs.... just stunning Featuring, among other things, Steve Perry's amazing, soulful vocals....Neal Schon's perfect guitar solo (Rick Beato's fave solo too!) and Ross Valory's chorus soaked harmonics....

I bought this preamp because of its features, but it doesn't fit into the small control cavity of my Sandberg VM4. I didn't check before I bought it I've had this in my drawer of parts for a while, and it's not looking like I'm going to be needing it anytime soon, so here it is... This is the 4-knob version, with black knobs. It's designed for 2-pickup basses. The output of each pickup can be adjusted with two internal trim pots, ensuring perfect balance. Semiparametric mids, passive tone control, active/passive switch, bass EQ frequency window is user-adjustable (low bass 20-80Hz, high bass 40-200Hz), flat or pre-shape (slight mid scoop with boosted low/highs) options... Check full specs here: https://www.east-uk.com/product/uni-pre-4-knob/?v=7885444af42e It costs new £220. Selling for £150 including postage within the UK. This has never been installed. I only took it out of the box to take measurements.

I think you rather prove the point made in my final paragraph there.

What are you listening to right now?

Well reminded, I used to play Fire of unknown origin to death, and I haven't heard it in years, so I am giving it another listen! -
Staying friends with band members is tough, in my experience.

I think it must be a 'trading as' situation https://amphospital.co.uk/ Anyway, they are authorised repairers of many leading brands, have an excellent reputation with lots of touring bands and since MJW Amplification ceased trading (retired), it's the only place I trust with my Mesa amps. Dennis the Legend is just too far away for me although his reputation is on a par with Stan.

I was concerned when I got my first Ibanez prestige that it had barts on it, so it wasn't going to sound good - I thought it was a bart thing, but it was night and day different.

Still got mine. Must dig it out again

Just as well the Ukrainian jewish heritage Abel Meeropol had no such qualms or it would never have been written.

I did, I was exagerating, which is an effect people sometimes use in communication for effect. I am sorry I didn't clarify in my post that it was there for effect, I thought it might have been obvious. They could also be wrong*. Funny thing with the licensed barts, you can pick it up, play it, think "oh that sounds alright", then play it at a gig and think, "oh the sound on that gig wasn't good, must be the set up", and continue like this until you realise after a while when you go to pick up a bass to noodle on when there is a choice, the one with the licensed barts isn't the one you are picking up. I dont' know what it is, there are many people out there using them as their only bass and they won't really have a problem until they get something else. I always think ibanez do themseles no favours using them, the amount of times you hear that people like the basses but think the sound is bland or generic and discount them, then play the premium and think it is a much better bass, when it is actually just a prettier bass with better pickups. * note, this is an opinion, not a literal truth.

Furthermore Freddie Washington doesn't look like Nathan Watts at all, because I'm 99% confident that it's Nathan Watts.

Maybe not. But I was just pointing out that by 1988/89 house music and pop songs that were heavily influenced by it were anything but niche. Personally I'd love to see an 80s band doing S'Express, Yazz or Soul II Soul. There appears to be an assumption that 80s music is mostly synth-based pop from the first half of the decade, whereas the reality is, as I hinted in my first post, that there's a lot more to the decade. As someone who plays in an unashamedly 80s influenced originals bands, I'd be interested to know what's in the typical 80s covers band's set list.

I'm not saying the mk1's sound bad, but I've had both and to my ears the US Barts are several levels better than the mk1's.

*PRICE INCLUDES UK POSTAGE * Wicked pedal! Tracks beautifully. Only selling as I’m now using multi-effect unit. In great condition (I may even have original box…can’t find at the moment m). Does an octave below and/or above. Also has an independent boost effect. Blurb here: Octavius tri-tone generator has 4 controls LO OCT, HIGH OCT, MASTER MIX and BOOST. LO OCT knob lets you set the volume of the lower octave signal produced by the pedal. HIGH OCT knob controls the volume of the higher octave signal produced by the pedal. The balance between the levels of these 2 knobs is what creates your particular octave-divided sound. Experiment with your mix, and you’ll be amazed at the variety of effects you’ll get. MASTER MIX knob lets you set the overall volume of your low and high octaves compared to your direct signal. Use the BOOST knob to control the output of your octave-divided sound. The boost function lets you dial in a solo level, whether the overdrive circuit is activated or not.
