I use a pedal and think it sounds better with than without, but it's subtle, once saw a band where the bass player had a board with about 6 pedals on it, his bass sounded muddy and wasn't cutting through, halfway through the second set one of his leads packed in, so fair play he quickly plugged staright into his amp, after his sound really cut through and sound clear. I told him at the end, he looked at me like I was something he trodden in on the local park

I am just about to restring my Sterling usa HH 4 string to put it up for sale. keep an eye out on basschat as I will be posting it here in the next few days. -
Well, a Tone Rider SP1 (classic) , or the SP2 (Duke) P pickup set, depending on what I am after tonally. After that CTS, or Alpha full sized 250 K pots (if they will fit in the cavity), a decent 0.047uf capacitor (TBH Mylar is fine but orange drop if you must) and True Tone jack socket. If the cavity is too tight for full sized, Alpha mini-pots are a good alternative. I wire it up with cloth covered wire, simply because it is easier to work with. Sticky backed copper tape to shield the cavities and the back of the pickguard. Remember to have a bit of overlap from cavity to the top so that you get continuity with the shielding on the back of the pickguard. Job done😀.

They do look super good!

A Thursday night gig for The Desperate Cowboys at The Golden Eagle in Derby. There’s not much space for bands to play in, but as a three-piece it was bearable. A good crowd for a weekday night, car parking right outside and a ten minute drive from home. Taylor mini-bass through a TE Elf and Barefaced One-10.

I had a problem the other day with my sound. I hit the bypass foot switch and was almost surprised when it sounded great. Has anyone realisd that one of the sounds they need is that one in their hands?

Hohner "The Jack" Restoration
Mediocre Polymath replied to Mediocre Polymath's topic in Build Diaries
I'm currently brushing on many many coats of water-based polyurethane lacquer. I had two-thirds of a tin of Mann's Extra Tough that I needed to use up, and I don't like using spray cans more than I have to. This also has the advantage of being innocuous enough in terms of smells that I can use it indoors when it rains. Once I've gotten a good thick layer on, I'll sand it down to a smooth finish. It sounds like an odd way of doing things, but it's worked for me on the last seven or eight instruments I've made. -

JBL EON Active Subwoofers Price Drop £200

Not a fair comparison once you get a few anagrams int he second hand market it’ll be a £500 difference. Its basically a £700 new difference and really you have to upgrade the power supply to a Cioks DC7 or you get the grounding issues I had which made me send my QC back in a few days. If you can stand the footprint and you have some amazing pedals that you just have to capture without a computer involved then sure. But you can do the capture process using the Anagram you just need a computer attached. My final point on this is, capturing is really overrated, you’ll do it a bit and then you’ll realise most of it is already available for you in the cloud, or you just did it a few times several months ago. I’m annoyed now I preordered mine the other week and don’t have it, don’t even have a shipping notification.

I start a new job soon and it’s a lot of driving. If I can make that work, maybe I can make this trip work 🤞

These look like quality cables, but they use some of the same claims that snake oil audiophile cable makers. Copper cables are not directional, Also on one or more cables they have used heat-shrink over the end of one plug. There is no need to use heat-shrink on a decent plug. There are few cables that are really low loss (although the loss in HF is usually not crucial for Bass). These include Sommer Spirit LLX, Klotz AC110, Van Damme Silver Series Lo Cap all have very low capacitance hence low loss. The most expensive of these is the Van Damme at just short of £11 per metre. I cannot see where the extra cost comes from, as they proudly say they do not use gold. Those must be some special jack plugs.
