Uncle Rodney started following Q to non drivers ie rehearsals
-
In my last band, I just happen to pass (sorta) a car-less band member's house enroute to the rehearsal room. I couldn't bring myself just to drive past.. It worked most of the time. I was driving a very long way, he was just crossing town and sometimes got "itchy" when I got stuck in traffic and not on his doorstep at the agreed time. (show respect) My current band, just at the last weekend I picked up our car-less singer. Again a long drive for me with an insane journey 2 miles across town after picking the guy up. He helped with town knowledge around the many "road closed" signs. And a band years ago, I would pick up the drummer as he had drink driving ban. Sadly, although being a nice chap, once the ban was over he got a car and no surprises for what happened next. 💩 Maybe foolishly, I tend to see it as part of the team effort being in a band. I can go wrong, being mindful what is being said in the car matters. For me it was, being respectful and courteous. As in, don't make demands on the lift, be ready when the lift arrives. No smoking, farting, politics in the car.. etc. And don't sit on my driving SPEX! 🤓

I had to take mine apart to replace one of the flimsy little switches. Blackstar were really on the ball providing spares and the amp was really nicely made inside. I didn't keep it, not because it was bad, there was just too much scope for fiddling with the sound, I am such a fiddler!

Hi good people, I’ve only just bought this beautiful bass from @briansbrew and it is all that it says on the tin and more… Every 10 years or so, I convince myself that I should own a bass guitar…however, I soon remember that even as I get older, it’s still not my particular cup of tea. I just love the mammoth inconvenience of logging a double bass around, and thankfully I’ve got the gigs on the upright. So, here it goes again. Early Custom shop Jazz bass, with several modifications that justify the “low” price. Originally Daphne blue, refinished in a deep pink colour, and then again back to the original colour, all professionally done. The neck binding was stripped and redone as perloid, with a nice touch at the top of the fingerboard saying “L’arbre chantant” (the singing tree in French). the “V” serial number is typical of early Custom Shop (they only started in 88 so this must be a very early one). The stamps are all original, but the year is not very legible at all. Gold tuners, knobs, control plate and screws are original to the bass, new gold bridge installed Brian had the scratchplate imported from the states which is 62-66 period correct. The pickups that came with it were not that great and not original to the bass, so Brian installed Fender customshop vintage 60's ones: they sound awesome! The gold bridge cover may or may not be the original one. A battery compartment was added at the back and a toggle switch to the control plate as an active circuit was installed, but now the original circuit reinstated and it’s all passive. Non-original Fender moulded included, strap locks and leather strap. Weight is 4.4 Kgs. A black strap and strap locks as pictured are also included.

I’m uncertain, but it’s possible given @Richard R and his gracious offer of a lift I had been made redundant but am in a grace period for reinstatement so was going to be a NO for financial reasons but if Mondays chat with their recruiter (who contacted me) goes well it may be possible after all

Yep, just viewed the Bass Gear interview video on You Tube via the link. It reminded me that the RRP for the Contour ST in the USA was $4950!!! Also remembered an interesting encounter with the guys from the Hofner stand when we launched the Contour range at the 2018 Bristol Guitar Show. About half an hour before opening time on the first day, they came strolling down the aisle past our Gillett Guitar stand as I was doing a last-minute vac over the carpet. They did a double-take and rushed over for a closer look. It was quite obvious as they handled the demo basses and fired questions at us that they were deeply impressed. After I'd swapped business cards with their Sales Manager, his parting shot was: "I don't know how you can offer premium basses like these for such a low price." By the bye, as one who grew up worshipping The Beatles and Macca, I couldn't resist asking him whether he could do me a good price for a new top-of-the-range violin bass. He said if I called him after the show, he'd be able to sort something out for around £800. I've never forgiven myself for not following the offer up.

my set arrived today - they work fine, but look a little fragile so I'll just have to be extra careful.

Ibanez LACS. Anyone got any hands on experience with one?
binky_bass replied to binky_bass's topic in General Discussion
@Russ - Are you not thinking of Dave Swift? -
Mine never has, in the 5 years I've had it! It's failed to boot up twice, and both times off/on started it up nicely. Is the software up to date? Are patches too resource hungry, or from a dodgy source?

What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...

That would be great to have his thoughts about his LACS bass, and furthermore it's a sixer. -

Richard Jinman started following D Muniz French grip bow
-
I’m looking to move to German grip and am selling this lovely French grip bow. I bought it on musical chairs for £400 in 2024. Details from the original ad below. Lovely D.Muniz bass bow from Brazil. Pernambuco stick, recently rehaired at Guivers. I purchased this from Malcolm Healy in 2005 and was my bow I used for all music college auditions, final recital and professional jobs. Weight is 12.8g and the length is 71.5 cm. Rather battered hard case that does the job. Alternatively if someone has a German grip bow of similar value (or want to do a swap plus cash) please get in touch. Bow is in Somerset, but I’m happy to bring it to London (EC2) if you’d like to try it.

5 week gap for us at moment. Singer is off on hols for 3 weeks renewing his vows. We gig the day after he returns so that'll be a fun night. Still it lets me enjoy all your gig reports at an nice easy pace. 😂 Dave

Had the lurgy few weeks back and it left me with a bit of a cough that is slowly going away but a bad cold does that to me these days. If i hadn't tested for it i would have sworn it was covid. Rest of the band caught it 2 weeks later with no contact from me in those 2 weeks. Seems to be doing the rounds again. Dave
