  1. Past hour
  2. No not too flexible due to the design and the material produces a warmer tone
  3. I didn't like the world acclaimed Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as I bought one thinking it would replace my old Steinberg UR-RT2 with the Neve transformers, but was really disappointed with more latency and a delirious use of the CPU of my MSI gamer PC (I'm absolutely not a gamer, but I always buy these, because of their built quality and overall better components, efficient cooling system and sustainability). But it's the system I would use in your situation @andyhaines, a good DI or, better, a good soundcard. If you still want a class D amp head with a small factor and a fan allowing you to be reassured about its longevity, go for the GR Bass One 800 as I've already explained why it is the best option. In the Studio Mode, the amp is fanless until it reaches a certain temperature point and, then, it will start the fan by itself and cool the head efficiently and rapidly (just like a gamer PC, funnily). Furthermore, there are options you almost only find on this amp, like the Pure Mode, which is a true bypass of the EQ. I've been using a GR Bass Combo 800 (the same as the head, but even less ventilated by definition) for low level rehearsal with a bass duet at home and after around 2 hours in Studio Mode, the fan started itself and the chassis was between lukewarm and hot at that moment. Just like you, I've been searching the perfect silent amplification and this GR Bass One 800 ticked all the box. If you're afraid of the brand because it's Italian (with all the clichés associated), rest assured that it's a totally reliable society and that, when you email them, they answer very quickly. Furthermore, Gianfranco Rizzi (GR), the owner, is a bass player too. 😉
  4. Agree. Technique and superb reading chops plus really switched on with the tech. As with the rest of the band, all top flight professionals. Really interesting to see how its done.
  5. Main differences between my 60s Am Original P and my 2003 62 AVRI P are probably in the neck to be honest. Obviously pickups etc are slightly different, but the thing that impacts the playability most when comparing them is the difference in neck specs. Am Original; 1963 C neck profile with a 9.5” radius, round-laminated rosewood fingerboard and clay dot inlays/side markers with vintage tall frets and a 1.73” nut width (bone nut). Neck depth feels bigger/more rounded. AVRI; C neck profile with a 7.25” radius, white dot inlays/side markers with vintage frets, a 1.75” nut width and a synthetic bone nut. Neck depth feels very thin/shallow. I would say too, that most of the AVRIs I’ve played over time have all been quite light (probably around 8.6-8.9lbs) but the Am Originals have been heavier.
  6. This one was quite short lived, after years of playing a precision I can’t tear myself away from them but thought it was worth a try. So for sale is my 2013 Fender American Jazz Bass finished in white. It’s in fantastic condition with very little in the way of marks/dents, I’ve found a tiny one and it’s only noticeable when you catch it in the right light on the rear edge - see photos. I’ve had this recently setup including a fret polish and a brand new set of Fender 45-105 Super 7250 bass strings and plays beautifully. It has a set of fender custom shop 60 Jazz pickups which came as standard and these are really smooth sounding. Comes with a hardcase, fender truss rod tool, hang tag and fender booklet. This is as clean as they come and has lived in its case. I’m willing to courier insured at cost to buyer if required but I’m also happy to meet halfway within a reasonable distance. Please message me beforehand if postage is outside UK Mainland - postage to Scotland/Ireland etc will cost more.
  7. Is there much flex in those?
  8. Ashdown OriginAL 500w in great condition. Comes with Ashdown carry case too, again in lovely condition. Only used as a back up so a pretty easy life. Prics includes U.K. Postage. More pics available, just ask. No trades ta
  9. I don't think Nylon Rylan is amongst them.
  10. 'Test in inconspicuous area of the garment'
  11. So this came to me on an ‘82 Pre EB Ray and it’s not original but it’s an excellent copy/replacement. Frets are perfect, truss Rod works as it should, beautiful looking neck in great condition. Price includes U.K. postage.
  12. The more I understand your situation, the more I think a good di for the teaching. Even a Behringer BDI21 with the drie turned down will give you a vlear, noiseless sound with the option for basic tone shaping. And dirt cheap so you don't affect your budget for a main amp which then won't need to be utterly silent. As you want a transparent sound maybe even going straight into a Focusrite Scarlett?
  13. It's a question of height, not radius @Roadybus, the frets higher point point must be at the same level as the fretless fingerboard part. Not such a big deal for luthier, but it means more work for the luthier, so more money involved for you. I'm calling @Basvarken to see if it's a challenge he might agree to deal with and he is in the Netherlands.

  15. I do get down to London from time to time but not in the near future. You’re welcome to try it next month when you’re up here.
  16. For what it’s worth. I’ve ordered a few cables from John @Chienmortbb Thanks for everyone’s help 👍

  18. It's an acrylic based lacquer. I dunno what that means except "it's not nitro".
  19. This shows how much personal experience is a factor. I find flats play havoc with my fingertips.
  20. For friction? Not touching the body surface?
  21. Thanks for the thoughts Phil and @Downunderwonder- I'm currently in limbo whilst I wait for G4Music to issue my refund from the D400, so I'm taking the time to let the various pros and cons bubble away. At the moment I'm leaning towards the Eich T300 or 500. I totally get your concerns about lack of proper cooling, and if I was gigging every weekend pushing the amp hard for hours on end I would certainly see the need for fan cooling. But my day-day real world situation is that the amp will spend most of the time running at a very low output - in the few weeks I was using the PJB D400 I never had the master above 8 O'clock. When I'm teaching online the master is at zero and I DI into my RME audio interface which feeds my headphones/Zoom etc. During that time the D400 was only just warm to the touch. However I'd be very interested to hear if anyone's fanless class D amp has had overheating problems in a similar usage situation.
  22. I had 2 gigs in July where I was using supplied backbone. I couldnt be bothered to set any pedals up. I loved it. Sounded great and so much less to think about. The bass player in my band doesn't use any, and he sounds great as well. I blame BC for a lot of this.
  23. tce has this three band comp in mono, 1 U rack format, Triple C? Very much like HyperGravity or Spectracomp. A quality Drawmer would be very tempting. Orban had interesting units, although most of them were quite big, and with screw connections.
