  3. I'm wondering if you'd like your big rack* back? *[Stifled chortle]
  4. Those pink JayDees came out in about early 1987 and along with other pastel shade pearlescent finishes like blue and yellow. My dad warned me at the time that if I bought an expensive bass in a colour like that I wouln never be able to sell it again. I heeded his warning and got a cherry red custom-made JD Mk3 MK. It was mega, much better than the production models in the shops at the time. John Diggins himself made it for me, and he was a superb craftsman, and a very nice chap too in all my dealings with him. I was very sad to hear that he had died. Regarding Mark King's sound, without wishing to court controversy, I have long been of the conviction that his tone is seriously compromised by the super light gauge strings he uses. It's just a case of how much each bass compensates for the lack of body in those thin strings. Whatever bass he uses he sounds remarkably similar to me. Don't get me wrong, I really admire Mark King and enjoy lots of things about his playing even though Level 42 aren't really my cup of tea, but his whole style and sound is defined by those strings.
  5. Rob, on ebay Polar Audio are selling a new preamp board for a mk4 with pots and jacks for £15. I'd snap it up mate
  6. I always use card from whatever packaging I have saved for this purpose sitting amongst the pile of junk on my desk. I do not believe this can possibly cause a ski jump and have never experienced this although I've shimmed well over a dozen of my basses and guitars.
  7. Hi Kristo, I am interested in this bass, but am in Rochdale near Manchester so it's a bit of a trek. If you are ever coming closer to the North West and still have it for sale please let me know and perhaps we could meet? (sadly I didn't see the ad until after you had been to the Peak District)
  8. Thanks for the replies, for those that have tried the Mojomojo other than rolling off the high frequencies is it fairly transparent? (ie is it only the high frequencies that get rolled off with the mids unaffected?) I tend to roll off a little treble anyway and go for a mid heavy sound so lack of treble is not a deal breaker for me, thanks
  9. wow brian is that real gold?
  10. Yes, I noticed yours had the same string wrapping as mine.
  11. Sorry Rob. That wasn't me. I'd help if I could. I haven't been to a SW Bash (yet). Nor do I use a smart "'phone". Perhaps you could find said member on the SW Bash thread by re-posting there? Good hunting.
  12. Hey mate, I think I have a few shims from my old P Bass that worked a treat if you want them? just cover postage and I’ll send them out? Cheers
  13. Any interesting trades ?
  14. @MuddBass I've touched it up with a bit of wood stain that I had lying around so it's much less visible, you only notice it if your looking now. I'll live with it as @Burns-bass says it's a big thing that will pick up some knocks and bangs if you use it how it's meant to be used ..
  15. With a title like that, how could we not....
  16. I have for sale two leather straps and two ‘material’. Buy one leather get a ‘material free. Thank for looking
  17. Thanks, I saw them on rickisounds for £6 each and 4.50 shipping, maybe with the size I can get them a bit less!
  18. I know I bang on about this on here, but, unless you are running bass through the PA, onstage sound is less important than in-room sound. What sounds good when you stand next to your rig can be terrible out in the room. The classic mid-scooped tone with a little low and high end lift can sound like mud in the room. I often find I have to lose some low end and boost the mids to the point where it gets a bit honky for it to work in the mix and in the room. Sound-checking with a long lead or wireless can be very revealing.
  19. Thanks for this Phil. It took me a couple of read throughs to get it and my simplistic, non-technical 'take-away' is that if you expect to increase your amp volume between rehearsal and gig, then also expect to change the EQ balance to retain your sound/tone at the new volume. From a practical application point of view, expect to have to lower the bass and treble EQ levels or raise the mids in order to keep the same tone. I will be trying this at the next rehearsal (using the difference in home practice to band rehearsal volumes).
  20. I see what you mean about Ex.6. Not sure about the proof-reading oversight, as under bar 3 there is an i for minor, and a capital I under bar 4 for Major. So he seems to mean a mixture of minor and major chords. I agree, it IS confusing! The G Major in bar 4 lies between two D7 chords, so he might be saying ‘in such instances you could play change to major when in a minor key, and maybe change to minor when in a major key’? But you think he would have addressed that in his comments!

  22. You'd get on well with my friend Jaymi in Nashville - the PinkBassMan!
  23. This kind of stuff
  24. Spent the last hour trying to work out if I have a problem or not. A kind basschatter has sent me eight Goldwood 1016 tweeters. I tested them all with a tone generator on my MacBook using the headphone socket as the output into a small cheap amp and then into cables. As I put a tiny bit of power in, I can hear a high pitched signal, not loud but something is there. I get the same signal when I connect into the Omni 10.5 speaker cab with the main speaker disconnected. Since I have no idea what a Goldwood should sound like, its entirely possible that this cab is working fine, that my ears are rubbish beyond about 5Hkz (too much deep scuba diving?) and I've spent the last eight weeks worrying over something that's working fine. I did see that @SpondonBassed had some sort of frequency analyser on his phone at the SW Bass Bash. If he reads this, can he let me know what he was using as it seemed very good. I'll then check the output and see what the cab is outputting. Thanks Rob
  25. You can buy full pocket angled (different angled available) shim veneers. These are fine to use and won't case any trouble.
