Westone "The Rail" Bass - DOA - Now a minimal bass
rwillett replied to rwillett's topic in Bass Guitars
So two pickups. one as close as possible to the neck and one a little further back. This is the pickguard now and what you are looking for For me, that's just a case of printing a new pickguard and possible lengthening the cables at the neck pickup (or something). Pretty simple to change, just moved the sketches for each pickup. The pickguard holes are automatically generated in the pickguard, so thats it. Took just under a min to change and using Apple-Z even less time to put back. Rob -

I always fancied a jazz pickup at neck and another one in in normal neck position . I have a Burns Bison and I love the sound of the 2 pickups closest to the neck . No bridge pickup for me . YMMV 😁 -
What I've got is rubber channelling with a lengthways central split so you can push the cables through the split into the cavity. Obviously you could slit through the pvc - provided it's not too rigid.

Off to see Penfriend (AKA Laura Kidd / She Makes War) at The Grace in Islington tonight. Looking forward to this, I think it's her first London gig since the pandemic.

Bought in the hope i could get away with 30 all valve watts but unfortunately not. Brand new JJ EL84’s fitted and comes with a spare set of EH valves. Really nice amp and tone to die for - if i could have this tone with more power id be in heaven! Collection from Bolton or could do a meet up. Could cut a deal if you want the ABM 4x10 ive also advertised on here. Would consider part ex for a Cali 76 Bass compact

So I got mine yesterday. Only just had a chance to plug it in and put it through its paces. First impressions - it does sound like a Bass 400+. In that regard, job done. It's got that little bit of inherent dirt from the valve preamp, and a very similar character in terms of the overall frequency curve (a bit middy, but in a nice, smooth, detailed and slightly furry way). Here's a pic of it sitting on top of my Ashdown RM800 - you can get a good idea of its (small) size. Downsides? Sadly, it does seem to have a big one - it just doesn't seem very loud. My RM800 is louder when turned up to about 9:00 (see pic) than the Mesa is turned up to about 7 or 8. This is with it going into my Barefaced BTII (which can handle 1600W). Maybe I'm doing something wrong with it, but that could potentially be a dealbreaker - if I can turn it up to 8 in my house and not shake the doors off their hinges, then there's something not quite right here. The Ashdown is too loud for the house once it gets to about 11:00, with loads more volume to go. Which is weird, because they probably use the exact same ICEpower modules for their Class D power sections. I'll keep playing - will report back with more findings.

Isn't that the NHS replacement testicle implant?

Some further good suggestions and info, thanks! It's certainly giving me plenty to think about and consider.

Westone "The Rail" Bass - DOA - Now a minimal bass

I have, all 37 (?) episodes. That Mini will need to be restored again by the time they finish it. I think putting a 4WD system and rather large engine on an old Mini is utterly insane and stupid. Rather like some of my builds. My mum and dad used to race minis in the 70s. My dads favourite trick was to put an Austin princess six cylinder engine into a classic mini. It would fit once he'd used the rather large sledge hammer to modify the engine bay. It handled like a pig, torque steered everywhere but as it was all off-road racing, rather good fun. He had a garage business so this wasn't exceptional. He once started to build a proper stock car. The design process consisted of suspending an American V8 from the garage beams, rolling front and rear axis in to approx the right positions along with the drive shafts and then welding large amounts of lorry U-bean together to make the chassis so it all fitted (for some value of fitted). I note that the mobile library has come back again. It wasn't clear to me if they put the whole of the old library on a different chassis and engine or put a whole different chassis under the library. What's the VIN number going to be? We are into Triggers broom territory now. -
Sharkfinger started following Ibanez SR640 purple sparkle - Fujigen 2001 MIJ

High-quality made in Japan bass. pretty certain this is the SR 640 as it has the reverse P pick up and amazing purple sparkle paintwork. Only just bought this on eBay but unfortunately forgot to check the weight. Only 3.7 kg, but unfortunately that’s still too much for me. I’ve given this a thorough clean, new set of strings and a basic set up. Action is lower than it was and could probably go lower. As this is a 25-year-old bass I didn’t want to push the truss Rod too much, so stopped when I met resistance. Currently has medium gauge strings (that’s all I had to hand), but I think could benefit from a light gauge. This has a few chips in the paintwork, but electrics works fine. If I were keeping it, I would probably change the tuners as I think they’ve reached the end of their life, especially the D and G ones. Included is a very high-quality hard case. £200 delivered or less if you collect or we meet up in Hertfordshire or Essex. would only trade with a lighter bass.

Mokl started following G&L in trouble...?

I actually quite like the headstock. Not played the Tributes but have had 3 US over the years, ASAT and SB1 basses and a Legacy 6 string. I regret parting with them all, although I wouldn't go back to the ASAT bass because of the body shape discomfort/neck dive on a strap. The build quality was very good on all, would be sad to see them go, but as others have suggested, in the crowded marketplace of today, it's easy to understand how they might be struggling.

Yeah tried Mike, not that one I’m afraid, think it had already gone. I know they’re pretty rare but I’ll keep my fingers crossed someone decides to cash in
