  2. Basses that sound better when someone else is playing them. . . .
  3. People who drive over the middle of mini-roundabouts instead of driving around them properly. The clue is in the name - Roundabout! Oh yes, basses... People who call my instrument "a guitar". It's not a guitar, it's a bloody bass! People who think music is a hobby as opposed to [in my case] a profession. Precision Basses. (I've tried, I really have. Many times. Honest.) Flatwound strings. (Again, I've tried. I really have!) Being buried in the mix. Ampeg Amplification. People who think a bass player is some simpleton who lurks at the back of the stage. Dull old strings.
  4. Ha, ha - looks nice, hope sounds nice too.
  5. Bargain! Someone's going to be very happy with this. GLWTS.
  6. Depends whether you need any of those things. There's well over 100 amp and distortion pedal models on a Helix. I'm sure there must be one that will give you the sound that you want. Remember that can run them in parallel with a separate EQ. I've never had a problem getting a distortion sound I like out my Helix. The only filters I've come across that were any good were MIDI controllable and really what I should heave been doing is playing a keyboard synth and no wasted my time trying to make a bass or a guitar sound like one.
  7. I hope you don’t mind me pointing out that the pickups look like Nordstrands rather than Aguilar. They are however still very good pickups which will give the bass a different flavour over the stock USA Bartolinis. GLWTS.
  8. Three drive pedals are going, one has arrived! Now-discontinued Teeth Mk.1.

  10. Xotic Bass X-Blender Mint condition, ordered recently from Germany for a specific studio recording, now surplus. Functioned beautifully as a clean/FX blend. Just as good as their reputation. Xotic webpage: https://xotic.us/effects/x-blender/ Supplied battery is unused, as are the rubber feet that come with it. I paid £180 for it, plus £20 shipping and £50 customs charges, so save yourself some pennies and have this one. No charge for postage. I will send it Royal Mail 48 hrs tracked, well packaged. Cheers!
  11. Bass guitars. Somehow I always feel I'm letting the band down if I turn up with my bass guitar and not my upright.

  13. Better written than most of the Bass Books I've read (with the exception of Guy Pratt'a aforementioned tome): Bunnyman by Will Sergeant (the guitarist of Echo and the Bunnymen). If you are of a certain age and liked 80s Liverpool Bands it is a really good read. I am taking the sequel: Echoes on my hollibobs.
  14. Hi. I’ve just had a Glockenklang 3 band put into my 2005 BB614 which I bought from Slapmonsta last Dec. He said prev owner Shepster had had the standard preamp modified to include a push/pull volume pot which pops the bass into passive mode. Apart from one older looking pot the shafts on the others look a lot newer with bright looking shafts. Spacing of the B,Mids, Treb pots on the board are 32mm and 32mm. The board says Yamaha QC87550 This is a great option because the Yamaha pickups have legendary power and passive tone. Note - there isn’t Tone control in passive mode but it’s a quality sound and you can blend the pickups for variation anyway. ** The only caveat ( which Slapmonsta kindly alerted me to ) is that with full volume in active mode , when you pull up the knob for passive the volume drops a lot BUT when you roll OFF the volume control just a little , the volume leaps back to match the full volume of active mode. ** None of us (owners) know why this is but it’s easy to roll off the volume. Priced accordingly and includes UK mainland delivery. I have another BB614/5 for sale like this ( another Glock mod ) which is Standard ( No passive ) so you might prefer that and it has the vol and blend larger knobs with it ( £30 inc delivery ). Cheers. Quent.
  15. Hi everyone. Update June 28th. Also now for sale , same Yamaha preamp QC87550 but with push/pull Passive option on the Vol pot - thats for £40 inc deliv, please see other posting for that one. Just moving this Standard preamp on at minimal price , kindly donated by Basschatter Lloydy when I bought his Pewter Beauty not long ago. Also fits a BB615, same 32mm spacing between the shafts on the board. Full working order before Lloydy replaced it with a Glock 3 Band. I include two original larger ( 20mm high 18.3mm diam and 6mm shaft hole ) heavy chrome knobs with new O rings in each. I havent got the full 20 yr service history but the Vol Blend splined pot shafts are 5.85mm outside diam but knobs tighten up OK with allen key. ( The Bass Mid Treb splined shafts are 6.0mm ) The fixed shafts on the board are 32mm centres x 2. The securing nuts and washers are there. Jack socket too. Photo now added. One split shaft crimped up - an ill fitting push on knob I remember - the two allen keyed chrome knobs included are from another BB614 I have ( bought some of those Hipshot lightweight ones from BD - £8 each! ) . So, £30 including UK mainland postage. Apart from seeing one pot is 500k on the photos I can’t help you with any other electronic specs. Cheers. Quent

  16. Hi, These are still for sale ( March 2025 ) I took these tuners off my 2016 Spector NT4 and replaced with Gotoh Gold GB707 , hence photo to show Drop In compatibility. Just home use by myself for a few months ( I bought bass new in 2018) before putting the gold set on. So excellent condition and very little use. They’ve cleaned up as well as the other same size set I’m now selling (£45) on here , just no Spector Logo on these. The diagram dimensions are accurate in the photo. I have digital calipers. Just had to change a couple of dimensions on a Wilkinson open gear diagram. £40 includes UK postage. 2L-2R Weight 238g Cheers. Quent
  17. Hi. Thank you for looking. I'm selling my LM IV as I no longer use it. I have only used a couple of times for practices. It's in immaculate condition having been housed in a flight case. Ideally would prefer collection but can post at buyers expense Description below copied from Markbass LITTLE MARK IV The new Little Mark IV amps add some amazing features to our flagship Markbass Little Mark III amplifier, an industry standard for tone, portability and value. The new bi-band limiter featured on this amp responds faster and more dynamically to your playing. Its paired with a 500 watt power amp providing impeccable bass frequency reproduction thanks to our MPT proprietary amp specifically designed for bass. In addition the Little Mark IV features a mute switch, and the 3 way switch that that includes the options of a Flat, Scooped or FSW (Footswitchable) EQ options. KEY POINTS > Little Mark’s legacy Since our beginning 20 years ago, Markbass pioneered small amp design with its "Little Mark" series creating an industry standard thanks to their amp's compact size, light weight, along with its signature warm and natural sound. That legacy has been preserved with the Little Mark IV, and has evolved to include the addition of new features requested by many of our artists and customers. > Updated 4 band EQ, Old School filter, 3 way switch Our updated 4 band EQ section features very effective controls allowing you to easily find the sound you want, boosting or cutting up to 16dB for each of the 4 bands to cover all the tonal nuances needed in any genre of music. Additionally the Old School filter cuts your high frequencies and gives a round and smooth tone. The 3 way rotary-switch allows you to choose between a super-balanced flat tone, a scooped preset that drops the mids while boosting the lows and highs - giving a superb slap sound, or lastly the 'FSW' option to control both mute and the Scooped EQ on demand by connecting an optional dual footswitch. > Bi-band limiter Our new bi-band limiter responds faster and more dynamically to your playing than traditional limiters do and lets your high end "breathe" for a more natural sound. It makes our amp heads the best choice for anyone who enjoys a quick, punchy attack at high volumes. > MUTE / LINE OUT LEVEL CONTROL / PRE-POST EQ switch Featured on the front panel of the Little Mark IV series amps are a convenient mute switch, along with the Line Out level control knob that allows for precise control of the signal sent to the mixer/ PA. On the rear panel is a Pre-Post EQ switch allowing you to set the XLR output's routing to before or after your EQ as required. > MPT - MARK PROPRIETARY TECHNOLOGY Many other bass amps on the market use power amps that are not specifically designed for bass. At Markbass, Marco De Virgiliis invested heavily in R&D to develop proprietary power amp technology in house. Our MPT power amp was built from the ground up to respect and elevate the inherent tone of your instrument.
  18. Slap bass (mainly because I'm crap at it) 6 string basses (when will you ever play that skinny string - never) Wireless guitar/bass systems (pointless unless you're in Lynrd Skynrd, or plan to crowd surf while playing bass) Hofner Violin basses
  19. Maple fretboards and painted headstocks should never have happened. If the headstock is painted, it should be a dark wood fretboard. Ramps make your bass look bad. I don't care how they might help your plucking position. Work it out another way.
  20. I've come to realise that my tastes mainly include reissue basses or guitars or guitars where the originals were introduced between 1966 & 1972ish. Anything that looks more modern (or with the wrong logo on the headstock) tends not to interest me no matter how well it plays/sounds.
  21. I find there's something about JJs tone that makes it very hard to pinpoint the lowest notes. Also there are times when he follows Dave and others where he doesn't. I agree with Mr Valdemar that in this case he doesn't move.
  22. Today
  23. Just bought a preamp from John. Communication was truly excellent. The unit expertly packaged and when there was a problem with a delay in delivery by the courier he went the extra mile to sort it out. Highly recommended.
  24. Sounds the same to me, no difference.
