Once again, Bill goes above and beyond with advice and help. Mods, please make him a Grand Master. He probably won't be fussed, but it's the least BC can do.

Were you coming along to a band where the arrangements were already sorted? Did they give you charts or a recording of the band playing their versions?

It's unrealistic. Every band I've been in that's tried that comes unstruck rapidly and I've been playing in bands for 40+ years. Even depping you will come pretty unstuck if you've learned the tunes off rote and expect to play the line you learned at home, or played in a previous band. See my post above. It's why live music is so much better than recordings.

I've just picked up or should I say struggled to pickup a 2002 Ashdown ABM 410 cab. ( 35kg ) I normally don't use a 410 but I wanted a home / studio / have fun with cab to match my ABM head. It looks like an early ABM Evo due to the date and use of blue drive units? The back plate only has 1/4 inch jack inputs so I'm assuming it's a cross over model from the original ABM to the Evo range? Information on this old model would be gladly received from the hive mind.

Replacing a 924 or 940 neck is going to be a challenge given that they are one of the best proportioned necks I’ve ever played. I’ve owned my factory fretless RS940TV since 1982 and it will have to be prised out of my cold dead hands.

Agree totally! I've had so many frustratingly bad experiences of band members having not learn't the songs so now in all my ads I state: "I'm prepared to learn the songs properly at home beforehand, so I'm fully prepared for rehearsals and gigs" Five years down the line, I still can't find a band, so I guess that statement might scare a lot of musicians off? 🤔

I’ve gone back to using a head and cab, so my Markbass combo is up for grabs. It’s a great amp, deceptively loud for its size and in good condition (although the handle is looking a bit worse for wear). Looking for £425 collected from Haywards Heath, or I’d be happy to meet halfway within a reasonable distance. Better photos, proof of ownership etc to come but here are some for starters.

My dad uses these for all his various guitar leads/gubbins. Could be a good way to keep the most used tools to hand? https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/skadis-pegboard-white-10321618/

I'll always remember the moment I went playing in pub bands to joining a semi-pro function band. The difference in prep was huge. With horns, two keys and everyone singing backing vox I was terrified of not knowing what I was doing so worked like mad prior to the first rehearsal which for them was a just a refresh before an important event. It was really satisfying playing with guys who were note perfect.
