  2. You’re must be right. I probably can’t tell a live musician from someone faking it when I’m standing in front of them. Why trust your own ears and eyes when someone on the internet says different.
  3. One of the best bass players of all time, IMHO, who was fortunate and/or lucky to be in of the greatest rock bands of all time. Whatever any of us thinks of his bass tone or his personality, JE's musicianship and place in the history of bass guitaring is assured! Having said that, he was definitely a bit of a miserable barsteward, but given his very long career and the number of interviews he would have done over that time - plus a very insipid and slightly sycophantic interviewer on this occasion - I'm not surprised it wasn't a great listen or watch. I met him very briefly once in the mid 80s at a Daily Mirror Pop Party in London.. Me and the drummer in the band I was in at the time went up to say hello to him and, despite JE having two semi-naked Page 3 girls fawning all over him (one on either arm) , he still looked and sounded utterly bored, miserable and pissed off... 🤷
  4. I've used this offer a few times before. The only issue with the 34" scale is that if you string through the body, then the E string might not be quite long enough for some basses. No problems if you string through the bridge, or if you get the XL set.
  5. And other such believable lines such as "cheque is in the post" 😀

  7. I love my current gig but man, I wanna do a Beck tribute act, I just love the basslines and the general madness of it all 👍
  8. The Candy Man - Sammy Davis Jr
  9. My really nice Fretless Bass with a solid Alder body, Maple neck & a beautifully figured Slab Rosewood lined fingerboard, plays like the proverbial dream and sounds great with oodles of mwoarrrrr. In excellent condition with just a few light play marks. Suitable for either the seasoned Fretless player, or due to the low action and fret lines this would be excellent for a beginner or an inexpensive way to try a Fretless if you’ve always fancied one, but didn’t want to spend a lot of your Great British pounds in case Fretless is not for you. Set up really nicely with a low action all the way up the neck, a lovely rich ‘woody’ sound & the bridge pickup provides instant Jaco when required, otherwise it can be played without the Mwoarrr. Nice and light at 3.7kg or a tad over 8lbs in ‘old money’ according to my digital scales. The lines thankfully extend over the sides of the fingerboard making intonation a doddle, even for an old duffer like me. In excellent condition, with just a few play wear marks, but nothing serious. Specs……. Solid three piece? Alder Body Maple Neck Lovely Figured Rosewood Slab lined Fretless fingerboard Yamaha Soap Bar neck & bridge pickups with individual volume and Master tone control. La Bella Flats - if memory serves. 38mm nut width, so very Jazz - esque + nice and shallow. Stagg padded Gig bag included. Any questions, please give me a shout. Can post to the U.K. Mainland via Parcelforce 24 delivery & insurance via Secursus, or collection welcome & knock £25 off the price.

  10. Same as me, Steve. Couldn’t really afford to be a collector, but I am a player and if it doesn’t sound good or play well then why keep it?
  11. You don't need to to the flash stuff to be brilliant. A few weeks ago I went to a Hi-Fi show where one of the rooms was playing this and it sounded great; I looked around and Mike Lindup had wandered into the room and sat down behind me!
  12. Yeah. I will take them off before shipping. They come off safely
  13. Bought a Stingray Special from Daryl. A lovely guy to deal with and a pleasure to hang out and chat bass. Would have no hesitation dealing with Daryl again, a great basschat member 👍👍
  14. I've said this before but not learned my lesson: I've made an ill-considered bass purchase recently so some of my pedals the block. UK postage via Royal Mail Special Delivery is included in the price. All pedals are in good working order. Pedals are boxed unless otherwise stated. Please let me know if you have any questions about them. Broughton BBA - £70 each - signal optimiser and buffer for the start of your chain. Broughton Subsonic - £140 - Broughton's take on the OC-2 (battered box). Broughton Calamity - £160 – a brilliant muff optimised for bass. Hiero BEAD v3 - £225 - a well-regarded take on the Brassmaster (Hiero sold this in a brown paper bag, which is included, rather than a box) Dunwich Volt Thrower - £300 - sought-after RAT-type pedal (no box). Damnation Audio MBD2 - £180 - versatile distortion in a smaller format than the MBD3. COG Custom Solid Snake Blender - £90 – similar to an LS-2 and is configured so that the pedal can either run the A Loop, B Loop or A+B Loops. It also has phase switches. Moose Nomad - £160 - my favourite octave fuzz. I have a slightly new version so I'm selling this unit. Nightowl Industries Parabellum v2 - £250 - a Nightowl Edison tube preamp and distortion circuit. Cog Effects R-1 - £325 - another brilliant octave fuzz (no box, missing one screw). Magic Pedals Cthulhu (black-out) - £200 - one-knob Fuzz Face-type fuzz. Magic Pedals Fuzzthrone (black-out) - £225 - versatile Fuzz Face-type circuit. Magic Pedals Magick Fuzz - £180 - muff-style fuzz (no box). Wrought Iron Leather & Effects Kaiburr - £275 – a cool fuzz with an excellent LED design reminiscent of Kylo Ren's lightsaber. Lone Wolf Audio Left Hand Wrath 2.5 (boxed) - £125 – HM-2-style distortion. BOSS HM-2W - £90 - HM-2 Waza style.
  15. That's fine, as long as it takes the same amount of time to train an airline pilot or a surgeon as a till operator and the qualifications required are the same.
  16. Fragile and Close To The Edge by Yes feature the best bass playing ever recorded.
  17. It is the bass equivalent of the Girl from Ipanema ..... each one it passes goes 'aaaaah' That is all sorts of lovely. If it ever goes on the block the little pants-off wrestling scene our Lancy friends have got going on might spread worldwide. Well, down South at the very least 🤣
  18. Listen to or watch Rick Beato's answer, you'll find the answer you're looking for.
  19. I agree about his tone; whilst he's acknowledged as having done great things for the bass as an instrument, the sounds coming out of the instruments don't do much for me.
  20. It is! She played a central role and was excellent throughout - playing with a smile on her face and clearly enjoying the gig and camaraderie
  21. For sale is the absolutely fantastic GK Plex preamp. The amp sims and EQ on this are absolutely second to none, so if you like the Gallien Kreuger sound this is really good, is also has a great 4 band EQ and each EQ button can be pressed for a different contour effect with 2-3 levels of boost/cut on each (bass boost/mid scoop/hi cut/presence), so the tone shaping options are massive, and it’s really hard to get anything resembling a bad sound from it. It also has a very good compressor which is fully alterable rather than just a one knob job you get on a lot of preamps, and 5 levels of drive which I only used the lightest one, and really liked. Also a headphone amp and tuner, DI and 1/4” out, runs on any 9v pedalboard power supply These are £519 in Bass Direct, it’s a top quality preamp, it’s in a very substantial metal housing. I was going to put it up for £275 but checked what I paid on here and it was £225 posted and so in the spirit of the site that’s what I’ll put it up for. I’d prefer to keep it but as much as I like the GK sound, it’s not what I really need at all for the stuff I’m playing currently - no doubt at all I will have another one at some point. Possibly do a deal with a Genzler Magellan Pre or an AK Fake Plastic Trees (with appropriate adjustments), or you’re welcome to try me with what you have but I’d much rather sell it £225 posted - comes in the original box too
