No, the quality at the bottom end of the price scale has improved dramatically, squeezing the top end because it's already the "best" and has nowhere to go.

Given the nature of the Bird... I'd prefer collection/Delivery but well packaged and very insured postage is possible. This one has been my gateway drug, and before i knew it i've bought myself an old single pickup model. It's in mint condition, and comes with a great padded gigbag. Pretty light at 3.8 kg, and personally I haven't had an issue with neck dive as these sometimes suffer from. These are proper neck-through models like the originals. As always please hit me up with questions/photo requests! .

Wasn't it always thus? When you buy the expensive stuff like Fender USA products you're paying for admittedly better quality materials, but at the end of the day, you're paying for the FMIC workers' mortgages, finance payments on their F150 pickup trucks and crazily expensive health insurance & pensions, not to mention fattening the pockets of the company shareholders.

IEMs are not (solely) ear protection. Ear plugs are ear protection - and definitely allowed. The choice to go IEMs is the equivalent to the choice to go wireless, as far as I'm concerned.

I didn't want to suggest it as it's one of my top ten albums of all time and it's easy to have an inflated memory of, because of its importance. But, being on Spotify for the Fish album, I ended up play No Parlez by Paul Young. It's the reason I picked up a bass in first place and re-listening to it today, but with a critical ear, it still holds up; Pino on fire!

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?

Back in the day when they did the 'heavy' version of Matty Groves it could be a bit wild. -
Would ear protection count as a fail? Seems a bit shortsighted if we disincentivise safety.

FTFY. C'mon you know the adage, "Will play for food." Missing out on pizza is anathema in my book.

Tim - that's super helpful, thanks. I'll need to go back and check what settings we currently have for the aux-outs and what difference it's making. I can then make sure we have dedicated wireless (with transmitter amps) and wired (no external amps) aux-outs, if required, or simply leave as is if it's just a case of the "select listen" option impacting the inherent desk output levels for the IEMs, given none of our existing output levels are close to being maxed. But it seems to me that this provides a "best-of-both worlds" option, avoiding unnecessary expenditure on external IEM amps for wired IEMs, which is an unexpected additional cap-feather in it's already significant haul for the CQ range. Bravo A&H!

Some more Veal, a track from the 2009 Marsalis album, 'Christmas Jazz Jam'. The tune is 'Blue Christmas'. A bit late in the season but it's reading practice, not party music! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/blue-christmas-wynton-marsalis/

It happens and I certainly don't know why. I tend to stop playing to see if it helps, sometimes it does, other times not so much.

Needed a small light bass ( 23" scale) while recovering from an op and this seemed to tick all of the boxes. It's pink and a bit sparkly, has a roasted maple neck and comes with a nice gig bag and all for £200. I bought it from gig gear, the fit and finish were great and set up pretty spot on. I'm going to try a Tonerider Duke pickup in it but the stock one was fine for the price. Well done Ashdown.

On Friday our Blues band opened for an excellent Eagles trib at The Ferry in Glasgow. Ultra busy so what could go wrong? I've been with them since 2015 and it's a really tight well rehearsed band. Anyway, I stepped up to sing the 2nd last song which I've sung dozens of times. Carnage! 1234 drums and instruments totally out of time as in different song out of time. Stop smile and start again. Same result. Eek. Third time I kept singing through the cacophany until we reached verse one and it finally gelled. No doubt we'll reset the song at our next rehearsal. Such disasters seldom happen but wow. If C@rlsb3rg did onstage disasters.
