You miss the point? The invention of the production line took away skilled work from mechanics who were able to able to put a whole engine together from scratch. AI already has the ability to take work away from skilled song writers, which I wouldn't regard as a mundane task, or have we all been wasting our time discussing that very issue on this thread?😅

Just been doing a bit of prep before I install my new machine heads, and of course the screw holes didn't line up, not a problem with this gear..... Great Wood filler.....does exactly what it says on the tube.

Take a piece of paper, or a couple of A4 sheets taped together, draw your circle on one side. Use a pencil in a piece of string if you don't have a compass. On the other side rub the pencil around where the circle is then turn it back over and use like carbon paper. Yoi could also cut a circle out of some light cardboard, a cereal box, put in on your baffle and draw round it. Measure and draw a box where the driver hole should be so you can align your template. Clamp your jigsaw upside down in a vice and rotate the baffle around the saw rather than the other way around

That shows the difference between ABRSM and Rock School exams. You are doing acoustic guitar grade 1, but turned up with a different instrument, and had a nice chat about that choice. ABRSM? You can't even choose which note to play. Play it, as written - note, value, dynamics. With regards to the instrument, ABRSM make no allowances for the fact that the student may have learned on a keyboard with no dynamics, but when they are doing the exam on a piano they are expected to play the written dynamics.

Not really. There's no actual skill in assembling something the same over and over again. Practically anyone who has ever worked on a production line can do it. They have children doing it in some countries. I used to put bottles on a conveyor belt in a bottling plant. No skill, just a bad back. Robots do it now, thank god. This is why AI will only replace certain mundane tasks.

I've been listening to some Jaydee basses on YouTube and I'd almost forgotten what a gutsy sound they've got. It's quite rare for the characteristic sound of a boutique bass to be so aggressive. They're strident, but in a good way. I remember there was a review of a JayDee bass in Guitar Player Magazine back in the mid -to-late 1980's, when they first had a distribution deal in the States. What was interesting about it was that the reviewer was Rick Turner, chief designer of the Alembic bass. He was extremely complimentary of the JayDee, despite it being reminiscent in it's design to his Alembics, and what struck him the most was how the Supernatural had a distinct "ping" of overtones and harmonics in the sound like hardly any basses other than an Alembic can produce. I'm thinking about basses like Jaydees ect at the moment because I'm looking to buy a modern-sounding bass, and when I say modern I mean what was modern between about 1980 and 1990. I've got plenty of Leo Fender-derived basses, I want something more hi-tech and hifi. And I don't mean something with fanned frets that people play math rock on. Problem is Status are gone, Wal might as well not be trading the waiting list is so long, and it sounds like the same can be said for JayDee. That great triumvirate of British bass builders are effectively out of contention. I don't really want to fork out for an Alembic, but that's the only other bass that's the kind of thing I'm after. Even basses like Fodera are a bit too woody and organic sounding for the stereotypical kind of tones I'm after.

Yes, I have to agree Terry. I'm certain the dull flat brown finishes hasn't done their sales many favours. Having said that they've also cobbled together a handful of exciting finishes - the 805 being just one of them IMO Thank you for the link. Sadly I have no £1300 spare at present. Having just splashed out yesterday for a week in Egypt and this morning the Wife's SUV packed up only to be towed off to the local garage (when I say local I mean a 40 mile round trip which in Cornwall is considered as 'local') which sounds expensive 😥. I can see the appeal if you already own a valve amp, and are tired with cost of replacing valves. A CTM-300 would cost $900 for swapping out power tubes. Ouch. However, in the guitar world, swapping out the valves in your 40 year old Fender Deluxe Reverb that you've had for ages is a more manageable $300. You then have the solid state reliability with an EQ and layout which you've grown accustomed to and presumably love. You're still stuck with valve preamps/rectifiers, but solid state versions of those exist as well. Maybe. Sound demos sound good. I don't own a valve amp, so this isn't for me, but I'm happy it exists.
