80 is great as far as I'm concerned. Dave we've had high profile gigs cancelled due to poor ticket sales. That's no fun. Daryl

Man what a cool shot. Love the lighting and the crowd. I wish we could get a photo like this. Daryl

Although not a budget option, the Source Audio Nemesis is a great pedal for strange sounds, including reverse delay.

Played at Fryshuset Klubben Stockholm yesterday. 300-400 in the audience (Emergenza Stockholm and Swedish final). 14 bands, so hectic with only line checks. I brought my Warwick $$, Mesa Carbine M6 for the backline and a TKS W2128 cab. I plugged in my Quad Cortex, which was overkill, as our 20 min set didn’t really need any bass tone changes. I could have gone straight. Had a great time and had several people come up afterwards and say how much they liked the performance. Cherry on top was we were among the audience top four picks.

Did he play a fretless bass on budokan? -
That's great. Appreciative crowds make the night go fast. However, all gigs are not going to be great. You have to take the good with the bad. Daryl

Thinking about this, one of the things that’s keeping it fresh is recording technology. Thanks to our xr18, L20 and Tascam Models, we’re able to record and work on ideas all the time in our own small shed studios, rather than it be limited to occasional and expensive trips to big studios. We’re recording our gigs easier and getting a great live sound. This plus excellent microphones, all relatively cheap, keeps the creative juices flowing.

When talking to random people at a gig always have a good exit plan. Daryl

I like where your head is at. When I think of the guys I played with as a teen I think some lost interest, some had awful tragedies in their lives that hit them so hard they stopped playing. And some I think we're never really into it. Daryl

I'm 63 and still loving it. As I've got older I've adopted the no @rsehole rule when it comes to bands. It means I'm more picky about the bands I'm in but it does mean they're more enjoyable. And to keep it fresh I also play drums, which has helped my bass playing as well.

Just home from Gig in Beat Generator, Dundee. Horrendous drive home in rain with a lot of standing water. Gig was a bit quieter than last time but owner reckoned it was a bank holiday weekend and lot of folks away. Sold about 80 tickets tho and hall was approx half full so not too bad. This was a reschedule gig from just after Xmas when singer lost his voice so a lot of people there had tickets from Xmas. Enthusiastic audience up for a dance and having fun with the band. Owner loved it and wants to rebook us again. 3 flights of stairs has absolutely killed me tonight and a 2 hr drive home didn't make it any better. Sandberg VM4 Shure Wireless Keeley Bassist comp Handbox WB-100 amp Barefaced 212 cab that i bought last week. Sounded great on stage. PA support supplied by the venue. I need to tweak the amp EQ settings as its quite a different tone to my Mesa cabs. The Mesa 210 gives my tone a little more mid edge but thats just down to EQ and all should be ok. Have to say the Barefaced cab sounded fantastic. Very similar tonal quality to the Mesa rig but one cab made it an easy lift in. Dave

I've been playing bass in bands for 33 years. I didn't know I was autistic when I started playing, I just knew that I struggled in social situations and being in a band was a conscious effort to overcome my fears as I'd been reading a lot about confrontational therapy. Being in a band also meant I had a way of appearing somewhat outgoing, but I could distance myself from people if I needed to by disappearing backstage. That social anxiety and general confusion also meant I also gravitated to quite aggressive music, emulating bands like Joy Division, Amebix and New Model Army. Cut to the current day, and I still have the same motivation albeit informed by an eventual diagnosis of having Asperger's Syndrome. So every concert I play is still a mix of exhilaration and terror - amazing myself at being able to overcome my fears and get up on stage, but always at the edge of panic.

Look at Jim Bergantino’s cabs. That Verellen Meatsmoke is quite the rig!

Just used one of these at a gig, not sure which it was but given I needed to push the volume a fair bit for just stage volume I’d say it was the lowest powered one. We only had a line check so all I did to get a sound I liked was drop mids a tad to say 11 o’clock and boost highs to about 1 o’clock and it sounded great. Was into an Ampeg Portaflex cab, no idea which sadly. All the bands used this rig and it sounded great with an array of basses, a real rich, full bottom end but without being at all boomy, I really liked this rig.
