ikay started following Source Audio Atlas compressor - Neuro desktop editor question
-
I'm a newbie user of the Neuro desktop editor for the Atlas compressor and could do with some help understanding some of the myriad of editable features (there are a lot!). The first one being makeup gain. I understand how compressors work and the principle of makeup gain, but can anyone explain to me how the four controls relating to makeup gain in the Neuro editor (pic below) function and interact with each other: Auto-Makeup - OK I get this one! Reference Level - I'm assuming this is to specify a 'reference level' (presumably somehow relating to the level of the input signal) for the auto-makeup gain - but in the Atlas user manual it says the auto-makeup feature 'analyzes the level of the input signal' to match the levels. This implies that the ref level should be determined automatically, which seems to be at odds with having a separate control to specify a preset ref level. In practice, when using the Atlas with auto-makeup ON (as in the factory presets), and moving the blend control from fully wet to fully dry, I'd expect the levels to be much the same, but with my bass (standard passive P) the wet signal is noticeably louder than the dry signal with some of the factory presets (eg. Studio Snap). Makeup Gain - Does this override auto-makeup, or does it just add a +/- trim to the auto-makeup level (or the reference level)? Auto-Makeup Include Attack Knob - What does this mean? Thanks for any input!

Boss DM-2W analog delay pedal in excellent condition with original box - £200 Now £170 plus p&p (collection welcome too). I’d also trade for an Aguilar Tone Hammer V1 pedal plus cash my way. The pedal has been modified by Time Travel Audio. It is a momentary oscillation mod. The new switch is the bypass switch and the original switch momentarily ramps up the feedback. The side mounted knob 'tunes' how much the feedback happens. The link below is a video of what the modification was based on:

Anyone remember Ohm Bass Amps?
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
My first ‘proper ‘ bass amp with cabinet was an OHM . Bought cheap as chips at the time from a friend . Not only was the head amp very big , heavy and bulky . The cabinet could fit a whole road crew inside . My cat used to sleep in it ! Great sound …very loud ! Buzzing windows! That big click sound whenever it was turned on .Mine had a flanger on it , with a foot switch . Times were hard then ,and it was the stone age . Bass players are blessed these days… -

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?
Homatron replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Best purchase: (Not technically a purchase yet, but it's a foot in the door) Worst purchase: 70's Seamoon Funk Machine circuitboard clone. Enjoyed building it but I never managed to dial in a sound I liked. Ended up reusing the housing for my DIY Fuzzrocious Ram the Manparts stripboard build. -

Cool little phaser pedal from the JHS budget line, was on my board for the last 8 months or so but I just prefer the more simple Phase 90 for my use, the less knobs the less chance of me fiddling during gigs! It can pull off the Phase 90 vibe and also do much more extreme sounds with the feedback knob switched on. Pretty much as new except having Velcro on the bottom, with the original box and bits and pieces. Price includes UK postage, will knock £5 off for local collection

I arranged the three melodies from the Charles Mingus tune, 'Self Portrait In Three Colors' from the 1959 album, 'Mingus Ah Um' for arco bass (as that is what I am working on at the moment). https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/self-portrait-in-three-colors-melody-arranged-for-arco-bass-charles-mingus/

Russ started following SIRE Z3 Sparkle thoughts?
-
Nah. I'd love a Z3, but I'd like a plain black one, or maybe a natural (they do the Z7 in natural, but not the Z3). I find sparkle finishes to be a bit garish. But, y'know, horses for courses. They're always out of stock on their website, so I guess they're selling as many of them as they can make! I'm actually looking out for a MM-style bass that's black 'n' maple, as I think I need to go back to basics a bit (my daily drivers are a pair of 6-strings, fretted and fretless, and I'm feeling the need to take a step back!) Right now, the Sadowsky MetroExpress Vintage M is the leading contender. It's more than twice the price of the Z3 though, and the Z3 sounds more like an actual MM.

Purrfect 10 - Beautiful South
-
I don't know who originally made it but I've had it a couple of years and added a Thunderbird neck. It's had a Rickenbacker 5 string pickup, so will need re-routing for another shape. Has a KiOgan wiring loom and the cavities have copper conductive tape. Paint job - not good - Halfords finest put on too quickly and not sanded down. Top is finished with a vinyl wrap (which doesn't hide the paint inconsistencies underneath). Great if you want that 'Rat' look.

eBay just keeps getting weirder
Beedster replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That’s not eBay that’s HMRC, I’ve had my account suspended because I didn’t provide the data. I’m sure it’s probably OK and a sign of the times but I’m not really wanting to find ebay sales factored into my taxable income so thought I’d wait a while and see how the dust settles- 1 reply

Chap91 started following Fender American Original 70’s Jazz Bass £1300
-
Up for sale is my 2018 Fender American Original 70's Jazz. Moving it on as it has been sat in its' case and and deserves to be played a lot more. I have upgraded the original bridge to a hip shot high mass bridge (The original is included along with certificate and case candy). There are one or two slight marks that I have pictured but otherwise the bass is in excellent condition. Collection preferred/ I can meet up within reasonable distance.
