  2. Two gigs this week. Wednesday at the rock and roll club was a good one - old friend of ours on drums who is really easy for me to lock on with, so it made for an enjoyable evening. Some people in from South Africa who danced most of the night, and were most complementary. Usual mix of stuff, with me doing what’s now appearing to be a weekly Chuck Berry medley. As some of them are so similar it’s easy to mix them up, although I seem to remember Chuck did this too sometimes so let’s just put it down to authenticity. P-bass Lyte into Hartke 3500 head / Loud 4x10 cab. Then last night I was depping with some friends in their pub rock band. Bit of a strange one as they were booked to replace another band who dropped out, and they were an Irish style kind of singalong bunch! Event was a birthday party at a nice local country pub, and when we got there I didn’t think it was going to be very good for us. First set only had a couple of dancers, but after a break the audience loosened up and we had most of them up at some point. We got a bit loud as a result, but nothing to scare the horses really. My old mate John Cambridge on drums ( ex- Bowie etc) meant a good gig for me. I love his playing and we gel really well, and he’s also great company, very funny ( although that might not be evident in the pic below where he looks rather serious). Songs included ‘Missing You’ ( by John Waite ), some Small Faces stuff and ‘Somewhere in my heart’ by Aztec Camera, as well as some other stuff you’d expect from geezers our age. P- Lyte into Rumble 500 combo, my go to these days. Finished around 10.45 pm, home by 11.30.
  3. ATS LBA-5 MKIII boutique bass amp, condition as new. 2 channels and 600W @ 4 Ohm. Only 1.9 kg. Including original gigbag.
  4. It’s not often that I agree with @tauzero but this time i do. Play across from the fifth string when it’s easier than using open strings, don’t expect to find uses for notes lower than E, they don’t come up that often
  5. I was reviewing the Jaco Pastorius 'Modern Electric Bass' instructional video last week, for the first time in about 25 years! It was really interesting to watch and learn from. One of the exercises in the video is an arpeggio exercise that gets you flying around the whole fretboard. It's really great watching Jaco explain the exercise and to hear him play it - his tone is awesome! This exercise is perfect if you want to master your fretboard, work on your technique, and discover more about harmony. In my latest YouTube video I break this Jaco exercise down and explain how to play it. There is a free PDF link in the video description. Enjoy!
  6. I bought one from @Len_derby - I find it very useful, unless it has a huge body it really won’t compete volume-wise with an acoustic guitar, but it’s still audible for jamming
  7. I'm thinking 'lovely bass spoilt by peculiar headstock...' then I realised it's on a grab stand!
  8. Looks close to Pantone 600 to me.
  9. My Laney Nexus went and has recently been replaced with this big lump of pure Rock 'n' Roll... (or should that be Tuck-'n'-Roll)? The sound and build quality is way beyond what I expected. The head has absolutley everything you need and nothing you don't.😎
  10. Try using the 5th string instead of not using it because you don't need it. You are allowed to play it further up than the 4th fret.
  11. I've built 2 using Warmoth parts. I used Gotoh bridges on both and put a bridge cover over them. ( the correct way round 😂 ) that way it doesn't matter if you use the period correct original 2 saddle design or not as no one will see it
  12. Hi. Here you go (from the Gator site)... Length 12.50" Width 19.00" Height 9.00" Cheers!
  13. Having a high pass filter in your chain is different to using a compressor! Unless I'm misunderstanding your point here!
  14. Thanks, Mokl. I was running two as a vertical stack – best live sound I've ever had!
  15. Maybe have a rule that on the hour for 15 minutes amps are turned off / muted?
  16. Update time: I think the total number deposits will allow us to make molds for the p bass, j bass, SR4N and SR5N necks. Thank to everyone who put deposits down. I'll start final confirmation of measurements this week.
  17. My eye (yes, I have two. Don't worry...) was caught by the cool looking lever at the top of the bridge - does this amazingly manly bass have a lever that deploys the string mutes? Bet MusicMan wish they'd thought of that before adding those fiddly tiny metal round screws under the bridges of Classic Stingrays. Seriously impressed by the intonation calibration markings on the bridge as well. If Bang & Olufsen made basses, they would make basses like this.
  18. Very little used since Covid, time to move it on. Comes with all the little bits of cabling etc. Condition is as near pristine as you're likely to find. Full specs are here: https://philjonesbass.net/cms/product-ha-1/

  19. Very decent piece of rack gear, equally suitable for studio or live use (I've used it both ways). The two multi-way cable clips on top are there by self-adhesive stuff and will remove. I found them useful enough to choose to leave them there for the new owner. The original box is present, as seen in the photos, but not the polystyrene inserts. I'll use bubble wrap for postage.
