What does a reverse P configuration achieve compared to the standard Fender configuration? Ive got a bass with each type of P pickup but they're so different in terms of preamp and pickup position and bridge setup that I can't tell what reversing them has done.

150 comments and most of them irrelevant to the main issue 🙄 Feel a bit sorry for the OP re the 'It's a blu ray not a DVD' crap.
-
Is it the angle or is the body shape wrong? The lower cut seems too high towards the pickups. I appreciate it's a copy of course.

I'm a big fan of the Fender Hi-Mass bridge — Currently only £35 from Amazon I have these on (at least) six basses. The Brass saddles seem to keep the notes punchy.

The important question is, can you get a tort pick guard to fit?
-
Well, this arrived a few minutes ago: No breakages or anything. To be brutally honest, I'm stunned as to how nice it is. Frets need a bit of a polish, strings are nasty, neck is straight, there's no flaws in the finish...even the machine heads seem to hold. Obviously things need a bit of fettling, but for £200, there's nothing here not to like. In all probability the plan is to swap out the hardware; P94s, 300k pots, strap locks and further down the line machine heads. These are a job for future Paulie.

Does Your Covers Band Change Songs? What Changes and Why?

One thing I've done as a result of all this is to chart out the songs as the band plays them with notes to explain. One day they might need a dep or a replacement and having this reference material is going to save some bassist a lot of time. It could well be a fellow Basschatter. You're welcome. 😀 -

I briefly ran a Mark Bass 102P with a 151P, and I didn't like it. A pair of 102Ps was a lot better. I've always run matching cabs ever since.

I'm the newbie and there's quite a few things above that on the list of things to be having chats about that will refine the set. Things are really positive and moving forward, I need to be selective and focus. -
SWMBO has decreed that I have enough basses... Problem is she can't tell the difference between a MIM Fender Jazz and an American Professional II Precision... as long as they're both in Sunburst. So, this one is being quietly sold to make way... It's a 2014 Standard Jazz (Mexico), has a couple of dings - one on the head and the other just next to the bridge - both fairly small. Otherwise in good shape - usual scuffs on pickguard and pickup covers. Hard case included in sale. Cash on collection from Effingham (near Leatherhead/Guildford) in Surrey. You're most welcome to try before you buy.

Does Your Covers Band Change Songs? What Changes and Why?

That is crazy. It's the bit that makes a relatively boring bass line interesting and they've screwed it. I would be having words. -
I definitely think it feels more that way with a parallel wired MM pickup (i.e. in a stock Stingray) than say a set of Jazz ones with volume pots in front. But yeah, it's probably not the best call for those who want to cut a lot of signal in any case.

I'm currently getting my head around playing "those sections" of Times Like These in 4/4 time instead of 7/4. I can see the logic in making the decision but it's not difficult to count 3 / 4 then 4/4 to get to 7. That one is a lazy shortcut and and is now 15 years ingrained into 4 people so I'm "re-learning" it. -

Darkglass Anagram £750 Delivered in UK. Note that this has a small ding on the LHS which is reflected in the asking price. Comes with supplied case and power supply as well as a KnK shield which cost me a total of £70 to have delivered from Poland. https://www.darkglass.com/en-gb/products/anagram https://www.knkshields.com/products/anagram Apart from the ding it is in excellent condition. Purchased from guitarguitar in August 2025. With great irony it received the ding while I was fitting the protective shield. I was moving it on my desk and clipped the edge of my Apple Studio Display cracking the monitor's screen in the process. Thankfully I have Applecare+ or that would have been a very expensive repair. I've really enjoyed playing through the Anagram, I've owned all flavours of Helix and Quad Cortex and the tones from the Anagram were the best of the lot. Selling as I don't really have a use for it. I like to stick to a simple preamp/compressor board but do love trying out new kit. Potential buyers are welcome to demo in Glasgow.

I've commented on this thread a couple of times, but I thought I add a bit more. Although I've been to the venue to watch gigs and played there, I never really got to know the people, or now person, running it. My current band (albeit covers) is less than a year old, and in that year, I have to say the guy running this place has been absolutely brilliant towards us. Help, advice a couple of good opportunities and bookings etc. He works incredibly hard on behalf of any of the bands around this way. I've nothing but thanks and respect for him. If this came up again I'd definitely give up an evening to play a few songs, no question.

That post applies to pretty much exactly my situation in a previous band.
