  2. No true bass man, would ever play anything but a P.
  3. The Jazz Bass has been a prominent instrument in the music scene for 65 years now. It's probably not that bad. Personally I like the sound of jazzes and think they can do well for most styles. I also like the way a P sounds in a band, but mostly prefer the warmer and deeper J sounds. Nowadays I prefer flats on most of my basses, with one of my jazzes being strung with La Bella's. Sounds wonderfull and has a bit more booty than rounds.
  4. Superb price for such a capable bass.
  5. Not rehearsal as such, but my first bass lesson in years. Really back to basics stuff ("Down on the corner' anyone ?) with the intent to remove some poor habits that are going to cause problems. Just being super-accurate with everything. Also hammer-on and pull-off which are new to me.

  7. I don't think there is such a thing as an economical double bass, is there?

  16. For sale is my TC Electronic GMajor-2 multi effects unit in fully working condition and updated to the latest firmware. Pictures show it in its usual rack home (rack not included). Although most of the standard effects are aimed at the guitarist I have found the compressor, gate, flanger, phaser and octaver (up and down) etc. to be very useable for bass. I can either factory reset before shipping or leave the presets I have created intalled. It has built in EQ, noise gate, compressor, reverbs, delays, wahs, octaver, tremolo, phaser, flanger etc each of which can be switched in / out from the front panel as required. I have been using this via my amps effects loop and found the compressor (and all the effects) just add their effect without changing the fundamental sound of the bass. Comes with original box and operating manual. You can use the unit in your DAW as well as with your bass / guitar etc. Patches can be easily selected from the front panel or attach a midi-pedal (I used a MidiMoose which is for sale seperately on here). There is also some Vyzor software you can download from the net which allows you to interface your PC with the GMajor-2 to edit and backup your user patches. I have also attached the GMajor-2 and Vyzor manuals below. tc_electronic_g-major_2_manual_english.pdfVyzor_G-Major2_Quick-Start.pdf I estimate UK shipping about £10 to £15.
  17. 1 rack unit is gone so the only one left is the lower one in the photos. For sale is my used but not abused EMS 500 19" rack case. The rack is currently assembled as 6U but can be reconfigured as 3U, 6U simply by removing some bolts and panels - 10 min job! You can also configure it so the top removes for mixers. The rack is currently assembled to a board with castors which isn't included in the sale and will be removed before shipping.........unless you really, really want it and then it would be an extra £20 and whatever the increased postage is. These are quite special cases as they are modular construction where you can increase or decrease the number of rack spaces by easily adding or removing side and end panels. All you need is an allen key! You can also use them with a mixer installed in the top and the top panel can be easily removed! See the photo of how I had the units set up for my band PA. (None of the rack equipment is included.) All catches etc are in good condition. Rack to rack depth is 48cm. Weight per 6U assembly is 18lbs / 8.2kg. See the attached brochure for more details. The 6U Gator version of this case weighs 13lbs so slightly lighter but is NOT as rigid, road resilient or has the flexiblity options. As these are modular I would propose they are dismantled and flat packed for shipping to reduce the cost. I'll give details on how to re-assemble if you need but its quite straight forward. I've estimated UK postage to be £15 per unit. 6U Rack Unit 2 - the lower 6U rack unit in the photos on its own - £90 / Board with castors - £20 / Both together £100. Shipping Extra EMS.pdf
  18. Revived purely to slag off the Jazz bass. Seems a bit pointless. They're basses.

  20. Sadowsky Metro Express 5-string PJ in black sparkle finish. I bought it from basschat member BaggyMan; here's his original listing: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/509637-sadowsky-5-string-metro-express-sold/ The bass has had some nice modifications: pre-amp upgraded to VTC version. Controls are: volume, blend, passive tone, bass/treble boost & cut (stacked knobs). Push/pull on the tone knob to bypass preamp (i.e. fully passive mode) bridge pickup changed to Nordstrand blade Sadowsky decal added String retainer changed Pickguard has been vinyl-wrapped. Weight: my kitchen scales say 4.25kg (9lb 6oz). Comes with Sadowsky PortaBag gig bag. £400 collected from Bristol, or +£15 for UK postage.

  22. I was flirting with the idea of an economical double bass that's on here at the moment. My SO was not amused... hmmm. EUBs...
  23. A good jazz, neck maxed, bridge dialled down a bit is loudest setting. Bridge turned to about 10% is the sweetest sound. The volume and tone on a p-bass are redundant except for home practice late evening...
  24. Where's my thing? - Rush
  25. I’ve been trying to come up with an unpopular opinion here, but the truth is I pick up my Jazz and say, ah, this sounds nice and plays great. Then I pick up my P and say… well, sounds nice, plays great! There’s a lot to be said for knowing each sound well and when to deploy it. There’s so much territory can be covered with two pickups (or one!) with different strings and playing techniques. It’s also fine to stick everything on full and not overthink it😁 This reminds me that I’ve never actually had flats on my Jazzes. Some homework to do there.
