    Now we have the singer in place we are refining the early set list, chucking out some of the male vocal songs and putting on ice some others. It's great having a confident singer who knows their range and just gets what the band is all about. She's given us all homework and we will have some cracking songs for the next rehearsal. The only thing we are struggling with is song structures and fade-out endings, but more practice will get us there. Feeling really good about this band, just eager to get gig-ready!!

    I found that on guitar, I prefer to get the sound/gain from lower wound pickups cranked more, rather than higher wound cranked less. Gibson SG for example, I prefer the 490T pickups to the 498T, just sounds better to me.

    Another ex-user here. I've had One10 x2 stack, a Super Twin, then One10T + One10 stack. Enjoyed them all, but I've gone back to my first light weight love: Mark Bass. My first actual love was a pair of Marshall VBC412 cabs with separate big iron Hartke and Ashdown heads. I am never lifting all that again! It might not even suit me these days as my musical tastes have changed a lot. It's been about 18 months since I quit my last band and if I ever look for another I'd be perfectly happy to swap to IEM and no backline, but the last band was big band jazz without any PA support - piano, bass, guitar all had their own amps - so if I did that again I'd still need an amp. The brass and reeds are loud enough without any PA in the venues were were doing.

    When this thread was new I was a current Barefaced user but now I'm one of these modern weirdos who doesn't have any backline most of the time. I've had 2x midgets, a compact, and 2x FR800s, all of which are exceptional and the fr800s were easily the best cabs I've ever used. If I need stage volume these days, which used to be pretty much never then I use a QSC k12.2. However both of my new bands look like they might be stage volume bands, so I am considering a big twin to amplify my quad cortex. Who knows what the future holds eh?

    Thing is (and I say this from the perspective of our desired signature tone), we all know - more or less - what we want to sound like and in truth, don't we just dial that in via our amp/cab choice and/or processing? Installation of Fender '62 Vintage pickups might make the owner of a bass feel better and oh, they're definitely going to hear that perceived tonal difference, but the irony is the bass will sound pretty much the same as it did beforehand. @Hobbayne - buy a couple of cheap Chinese Strat pickups and pop 'em in. They'll sound just the same as what is in there now and what you're going to replace them with.

    Yes I assumed you'd need the low pass side - an optional defeat switch for the tweeter might be an interesting extra. I suppose a 2.5way ideally necessitates a (switchable) extra pole on the low pass filter to smooth out the transition, and I guess that'd normally be an inductor so a bit more cost as it'd need to be low down. I built 2.5way tops with some Deltalite 10s that I deemed unsuitable for bass guitar compared to more robust drivers, it did do that 'girth' thing which bassists chase.

    Mondo Generator are worth seeing if you get the chance. They play a load of their own stuff plus the Kyuss songs he recorded and they're really good. Nick and the band are pretty cool as well, they hang out with the fans before and after and watch support bands from the crowd as well.
