A few days ago I took delivery of a new Spector Shorty. Doug Wimbush neck, Aguilar PJ pickups, OBP2 pre-amp.

Not over keen on the colour, looks more like camo than black/gold but I wanted a PJ and this was the only one available at the pre-Brexit price.

I suppose I can always get it refinished at a later date.

Fantastic feel and tone and ideal for my small hands. Also very light.

My brother had this in his loft for about 10 years. It's only an entry level NS2000 made in Korea or somewhere. But for £50 I'm pleased (I'm afraid I have no budget for music).

I love the pickups, the weight and the colour.

There were a couple of serious holes in the body, which I've filled. But I can't hide the repairs so I'm thinking of adding a scratch plate that I'll need to cut myself.
Firstly, £50's fine for that bass. They were the entry level NS2000's but they're still good.
Secondly, DO NOT put a scratchplate on a Spector! If they bass plays ok then the cosmetics can be sorted later.

I have the exact same model, in the same colour. Ridiculously good basses for what they cost!
I bought mine new for IIRC £700 and they were worth every penny then. At the ridiculous prices you see now they're a steal. Superb basses.

As above. Don't add a scratch plate. If you want to do anything get some decent strings and a set-up.
I must admit that, just to get playing, I did initially get some cheap strings off ebay, but they felt a bit rough and I was worried about wearing down the frets. I've come across several threads promoting flats recently, so this month I've tried out Fender 073s.

I prefer the softness of flatwound strings and the deeper, fatter tone when I'm playing as support to the rest of the band, but I can't help feeling the guitar's lost some sparkle and brashiness when I try to play anything a bit more adventurous.

I suspect I should get a second bass that's more suited to flats and put (quality) roundwounds back on the Spector!

A Rebop and a Spectorcore 5 are my arsenal. I think the Spectorcore is particularly good, great ebony board and action, I think more people should play these they are great value and quality.

This bass now lives on with me. I have turned the premap outdown down by about half but otherwise I'm totally in love with it.

Guys, I'd value any feedback on this. Bartolini pickup update and what appears to be a 3-band eq which is a new one for me on Euros.

Nice bass but I'm not a fan of Barts on anything, except maybe an open fire.

If you can live with the tone where's the problem?

I had them on my Roscoe 5 - seemed to lack the ooomph that I wanted and expected.

Personally I haven't found anything fitted with Barts since that I liked.
