Gibson Porn

Hey guys.

A while back I bought a Gibson RD Artist. Lovely bass, but unlike the description said, the frets were really worn down and there was some little bits of wear on the fretboard (Much like my grabber had before I sorted that out! http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1)

Anyway. I took it to the Gallery in Camden, Its been refretted with Stainless steel frets, the fingerboard has been lightly sanded and refinished, Hipshot Supertone bridge fitted, Dunlop Straplocks and a nice set of extra long scale elixirs.

Well here she is!

Shes been brought back to an excellent condition. The Hipshot really adds to the tone of the instrument and adjustability. The frets are PERFECT, stainless steel.

All work done courtesy of Martin and Co' at the gallery, though I dont think he likes working with stainless steel that much! (Apparantly it was the first time it was ever requested!)

I have sunk £1705 into buying and getting this instrument ready for gigging now, been bloody expensive :(

Apart from a couple of dings in the finish its near mint! Whats more the bridge mod is completely reversible.

Here are my Les Pauls. Love the shape, the tonal qualities and versatility. All really easy to play too. The right hand one is an old Antoria I modded (inspired by Neepheid). It looks nice and plays OK but not to the Gibson standard. Hope you like them. I am now Gasing for a Victory Artist.....

So, um, I've got this black cherry 2007 Gibson Les Paul Double Cut (later model with walnut "tone plate" a la Money bass).

I have been casually looking for a Money bass for a while. What are they like? Can the neck pickup sound tonally like a Grabber?

I suck at describing basses. I like it. I got it because I miss my modded Epi Les Paul. I wanted the small body/long neck ergonomics, and it certainly has that :) It's got the immediate drop in and play thing that my other TB+ wearing bass has (Gibson IV), just seems to have enough grunt in enough of the mid frequencies to conquer just about anything.

Will it sound like a Grabber? I couldn't tell you - I spent literally 2 minutes with a Grabber once, too bad for it I was choosing between it and a G-3 at the time - the G-3 absolutely smoked it for me so I can't even remember how it sounded. So that's my entire tonal reference for a Grabber - not as good as a G-3. Sorry it's not more descriptive than that. Personally, I doubt it will sound like a Grabber. Everything is different - different pickup(s), different construction, different hardware, different wood(s). And yet, to someone's ears it might sound exactly like a Grabber.

That didn't help at all, did it?
