I need one with 24 frets, 4 strings, tonally it needs to cover as many styles as possible and budget in looking around £2000. I would like to not buy a custom bass because i want to be able to try one before a buy. So give my suggestions because im running out of ideas!!!! BUT: Probably a special order - I've never seen one in a shop waiting to be bought. Edited to add - They've be around a while and do come up second hand for around £600. Little out of your budget but, Zon.. or Warwick Spector MTD Kingston MTD Z Series I dont think Sadowsky do a 24 fret 4 string..So as you said it would be a wait while they build you one...Just out of interest do you play that high often? They always seem to have some to sell off the shelf as it where. You should be able to buy or negotiate under 2 grand. They do turn up in shops and you can always drag yourself over to Carlisle. No i havent tried an MTD kingston or Z..A few on here that have though... Carbon fibre necks...Some say lack character, no deadspots, ultra low action achieved, the Zon will be a supreme bass...But really you have to try one..thats the only way... So, have a look at Gus, Sei, Born To Rock, Traben, Overwater, Pedulla or Lightwave. AFAICS it's the the Fender derived styles that appear to be challenged in the fret department. I love them for their stability and evenness of tone & response. Some carbon fibre necked basses can sound very bright, but I've always found Zon basses to have a comparatively warm sound due to the great active circuits they use (made specially for them by Polyfusion). So I have decided to get a "normal" bass with 20/22 frets and keep my bass with the 24 frets. Best of both world i think! Im thinking of getting a Lakland Joe Osborn. I have tried a skyine and loved it but im going to go for the US model. My only consern is that the skyline was REALLY quite. With all the nobs up full and the amp up loud it was still nowhere near as loud as it should have been. The tech ran it through something that tells what the output is and he said that it was no where near as high as it should be, he didnt know why this was ether. Im wondering if this is a problem that all Lakland basses have or if this bass had something wrong with it. Does anyone know about this kind of thing? Thanks Andy,[/quote] I owned a Skyline JO4 and there was nothing wrong with the output; it was comparable to a USA Jazz and an EMG equipped Squier I had at the time (very different basses but I am talking perceived output from the 3), it also stacked up similar to my other fully active basses... They're all 24 fret & cover more styles than most other basses. Or you could go for a 5 or 6 string to get the notes you think you're missing!
