Jazz Bass.

I may be buying a old jazz bass but theres something wrong in my mind with it. There seems to be something missing from the bottom end. Im still tempted to buy it cos it plays really well and its a really great price but im thinking about replacing the pickups. Could this make the tone better? I have been looking at a few makes and im not sure which are best. I have looked at: http://www.aeroinstrument.com/pickups.html http://www.hansonpickups.com/products.htm http://www.fralinpickups.com/ The reason I was looking at these ones is cos lakland use apparently use then and I like the sound of lakalands. Anyone got any thoughts?
4. How much do you think someone would buy them for?
5.
The bit I find most disturbing is the "The guy said all active basses do this" bit. This was in a shop? Holy sheet, that's less than incompetent.
Yeah i know! My friend who was with me who has been teaching bass for 15 years was in total shock.
6. Guitar Guitar, the bass is a fender us p bass with a musicman style pickup at the bridge.
7. Tried it through an SVT, Messa Boogie and a Marshall, it did the same distorting thing through them all.
8. Dont think so, they were both fresh out of a new pack.
9. Hmm... no idea about that, its band new so i dont think so!
10. New batteries where put in, theres no active input but it distorted in several amps i tried it in.
11. I was trying a great bass out but the only problem is that when the volume on the bass is above half way it starts to distort. They guy said all active basses so this, I quickly informed him that im not a chump. But does anyone know why it may be doing this? The tech is going to have a look but i dont have much faith tbh!!!!
12. I was thinking just plain black...
13. Ok, no worries. So how much do you think it would cost?
14. Im just concerned that it may effect the bass..... or am i just being stupid?
15. Im thinking about getting this Fender jazz i found in a shop. Its the best one I have played ever IMO, sounds amazing!!! The only problem is on the cosmetic side of things, its white and i dont really like white basses. Im wondering how much it would cost to get it re painted? And im guessing they would have to take the neck of to do this right? Is there anyway to get it re painted without taking it off? Thanks for any help
16. So what kid of sound do they produce? Is it a P or J sound or something totally different?
17. Cool, would you recommend them? Do they sound good in different styles? How high are they to the strings? The pic im looking at makes them look really high. Lakland
IME, not that much different to a JB from the big F.
What? :S
19. Has anyone got any experience with them? What are they like? I saw the bassist from the Mars Volta with them and they sound good!!!!

Lakland

I would prefer a passive bass because i have an active one but the fact that you can get more tones out of the 4-94 is tempting. What is the JO like when you really pluck hard? Is there any clipping?

Lakland

Im torn. Has anyone had experience with both of these basses? I cant decide which i like better and kinda need to because i sadly cant afford both. I need to know more about them so i can got one ordered to a shop to try. Cheers! 24 fret bass.

Thanks for all your suggestions but sadly none of them are what im looking for. So I have decided to get a "normal" bass with 20/22 frets and keep my bass with the 24 frets. Best of both world i think! Im thinking of getting a Lakland Joe Osborn. I have tried a skyine and loved it but im going to go for the US model. My only consern is that the skyline was REALLY quite. With all the nobs up full and the amp up loud it was still nowhere near as loud as it should have been. The tech ran it through something that tells what the output is and he said that it was no where near as high as it should be, he didnt know why this was ether. Im wondering if this is a problem that all Lakland basses have or if this bass had something wrong with it. Does anyone know about this kind of thing? Thanks Andy,

Not seen a 24 fret neck, but you never know....
I talked to sanderg and they would build me a jazz with 24 but they didnt recommend it, they are amazing basses tho!
I have a few... Little out of your budget but, Zon.. or Warwick Spector MTD Kingston MTD Z Series I dont think Sadowsky do a 24 fret 4 string..So as you said it would be a wait while they build you one...Just out of interest do you play that high often? Just to add John Shuker could prob build your spec bass for under £2000..and ive heard it would prob be amazing
I have got a Warwick and Spectors the same really. The MTD's look good, have you tried one?
I suppose I'd better fly the flag for Overwater. 24 frets and lots of versatility. They always seem to have some to sell off the shelf as it where. You should be able to buy or negotiate under 2 grand. They do turn up in shops and you can always drag yourself over to Carlisle.
Not a fan. I have played a few and they didnt do it for me
Don't know what your opinions on carbon fibre necks are, but: http://www.mansons.co.uk/shopping/categori...-4-bass-guitar/ Awesome bass & £51.00 change from your £2000.
I have never tried a carbon fibre neck, what are they like?
