That tone taper is usually the sign of cheap pots. If you replaced them, you'd probably have a better time. But for £43 for the guitar, a few extra quid on pots isn't the end of the world.

Exactly and I have a few 500 pots knocking about

Still no news on the arrival of my Jazz. The Royal Mail/Parcelforce tracking isn't showing anything, and I've not heard back from my email to Bax...

Mine is alledgedly 3 weeks away

Hope it arrives soon, and quicker than mine did.  They don't have the excuse of a company bankruptcy to lean on this time...

Might they also be the wrong taper, lin instead of log (or vice versa)?

Well, it turned up just before lunch and I'm very impressed! It's very green. Almost purest green. A slight tweak of the truss rod and it's good to go. I do find the jazz bass shape very comfy. Maybe because my first bass was a jazz. It's reasonably weighty at 4.44kg (9lb 8oz). Neck is a good shape. There's something on there that's rubbing off as I play which is a bit weird, but at least it's coming off. The pickups don't sound bad at all. Did I mention it's very green? For £63, I'm very pleased!

I'm still so pleased with this bass. It's a bit mad that something so cheap can be so good. I know the usual price is around £160, but even for that it seems like good value. It's super resonant, there's a gentle roll of the fretboard edges, and the tuners seem to do their job with no slop. I also really forgot how much I love the jazz shape to play. The way it sits when standing or sitting just work for me. The stock strings have been fine, I'm getting a bit of grey stuff on my fretting fingers, but they sound good. I even quite like the headstock shape as far as FSOs go. I was not expecting to like it this much. Really tempted by the Jellyfish 5 at some point:

mine's been pushed to delivery in week 4 now

Mine is week 4 as well, but has been since a few days after I ordered it. But not an issue as it wasn't anything I actually needed anyway!

I gig all my basses.  Beyond tribute bands, I don't see this rigid bass type to band/genre mapping at all.  It helps that I'm in an originals band which by definition gets to make the rules up as it goes along, and the other band is simply rock/indie covers so I can pretty much do as I please wrt choice of bass weapon.

No, I gig all my basses and never worried about bass type, although a 4 string has little use in my main gigging group. But the metal group has a lot of drop tuning, so it will probably live as a permanent drop D (or lower).

Glad I don’t play four strings anymore or i would buy one

my 5 does everything and I can’t justify anything else

Hey!

Quick question: there is some buzzing when i touch the pole pieces lf the P pick-up or my Piranha... i tried the nail varnish trick but it still buzzes..

Is it possible that my split coil is not correctly wired?

Check the earth lead of your pickup goes to the earth of the rest of your bass

I think we’re starting to realise the reverse, the expensive stuff ain’t what it’s cracked up to be 👍

Wasn't it always thus? When you buy the expensive stuff like Fender USA products you're paying for admittedly better quality materials, but at the end of the day, you're paying for the FMIC workers' mortgages, finance payments on their F150 pickup trucks and crazily expensive health insurance & pensions, not to mention fattening the pockets of the company shareholders. :)
