If you look at Yes songs, they often seem to be crafted to fit the Ric fretboard. 
It used to bug me, but actually I never want to go that high o a bass.

If I needed it I’d get a 5 or 6 string to add the extra (or a doubleneck or Stick).

Yes, not enough. I know the reason but it just feels a bit odd
