I wish I could get my main band in other people's feeds! 😸 Weird coincidence. I'm sure someone who understands algorithms could explain it, but I sure can't! Quote
Woodinblack Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Unless it is purely random (well, even if), it really does seem very odd. Quote

I was flattered. I said yes and tonight was my first rehearsal / audition. I took my Fender USA Jazz, for that Steve Severin vibe and my Blackstar U700 head. The built in chorus and overdrive immediately gets my sound in the right area. I have been so busy with real life that I went in feeling under rehearsed and I didn’t want to waste anybody’s time. We started with Metal Postcard and then launched into Happy House. I could tell they were happy. As the set wore on, it was obvious that I had put the work in. Nine songs in and I missed the timing on a section of Switch, but it was in the bank by then! I am officially the new member of the band… and I must be doing alright as I was presented with a band t-shirt too! My first show is Water Rats in March with Echoes of the Bunnymen. Well done and well deserved. Look forward to seeing the gig posts in the future. Dave 2 1 Quote
NoRhino Posted February 10 Posted February 10 After years of Tuesday rehearsals from 6pm - 9pm we changed our time to 11am - 2pm starting today. It was quite good but we did feel hungry and, as there are no windows, one of us felt it was about 8pm. I enjoyed it and we'll see how it goes next week. Also... it's £10 cheaper. 4 Quote
Jackroadkill Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I've been jamming with the guitar player from our last band and we're getting to the point where just guitar and bass with some not-very-good vocals just won't cut it any more. I wish we could find a drummer because we're having lots of fun and playing some good songs. 1 1 Quote
FretsOnFire Posted February 11 Posted February 11 First rehearsal with my new covers band last night and it went great and after waiting so long for a covers band looking for a bassist to become available it seems like they really are like buses as I’ve got another rehearsal tomorrow with my other covers band. 2 Quote
dmccombe7 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Looks like i'll be joining a Blues rock band from Edinburgh area. The BL has already seen the Glam band i'm in and says he's happy if i'm up for it. They're happy to work around the Glam band gigs too so that's a bonus. I've to let them know tomorrow once i've had a think about it but i'm quite keen on the idea. Dave 4 Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Originals rehearsal tonight. One new song refined considerably, with some nice dynamics including an Iron Maiden style gallop. We worked out some neat stops too. Also tidied up our re-interpretation of a song from the original album. Didn't originally have bass but came up with a 'classically inspired' bassline to bring along that's a sort of counterpoint melody. Very chuffed with myself. Plus added a little bass trill in the chorus that made the lead guitarist and drummer smile. 4 Quote
bassbiscuits Posted Saturday at 14:33 Posted Saturday at 14:33 My weekly practice with my originals band is most Thursdays. On the weeks we can’t all meet, me and the guitarist meet at home and work up song ideas. I record them as voice memos on my phone. Over the last few weeks we’ve been working thru the better ideas in there and turning out some great sounding songs that we’d more or less forgotten about but which are now coming together really quickly. Excellent! 3 Quote
MacDaddy Posted Saturday at 17:02 Posted Saturday at 17:02 Dress rehearsal for next weeks gig, so all using our own gear. Shuker 3 -> Swiff Audio wireless -> TC Electronics BH800 -> Tech Sound Systems 2x12 (modified). I had trouble with my sound all evening. Couldn't get it right it was always too toppy or clanky, or not bassy enough. The only thing that has changed is that my strings are now DR Neons (Christmas gift). I finally got it right on the last song. Flat EQ but with the bass boosted to 4 o'clock. Spectracomp tone print on full. 4 Quote
Leonard Smalls Posted Sunday at 13:32 Posted Sunday at 13:32 We had no guitarist for today's rehearsal. However, I'd bought myself a cheap'n'cheerful Squier Toronnado having had to give back the borrowed Strat. So I played guitar, which I've never done with anyone else! I just played my over-complicated bass lines, while our other bass player did his thing and I got to do extra widdling which was nice. And it went surprisingly well - guitar playing is dead easy compared to bass... 😁 2 3 Quote

Marvin Posted Monday at 15:09 Posted Monday at 15:09 The guitarist in our band, who is very musical - plays keyboards and it's either flute or sax - said he tried bass once and couldn't get his head around it. I said he must be joking, it's the easiest instrument to blag you're way through. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be playing it 😄 1 2 Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted Tuesday at 07:45 Posted Tuesday at 07:45 (edited) Fractured Persona. Went to pub after. Fluked a win at pool against guitarist. Thrashed by drummer. Bit more detail - we shared out harmonies for the acapella ending of what we plan as a setpiece encore. Six voices, sounded incredible will be phenomenal if we can hit the spot live. rwillett Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago My 'band' consists of a drummer and me. I swing between bass and guitar, but tonight was guitar. I have no pride and no skill. As a laugh we decided to do one of my original songs as if sung by Lemmy in Motorhead. I was using a Laney LC15R valve amp with a Strat, brought from this very parish from @kwmlondon. As Kim lives London and I live North Yorkshire, I only managed to pick it up at Xmas and due to other commitments, tonight was the first time it got used in anger. Bloody hell, for 15W it's loud, it's very loud. Its my first and only valve amp and I still don't understand why a tiny 15W valve amp should be so, so loud. Not just loud, it sounded really good as well. We wound the gain up, wound the volume, I did my best to channel Lemmy and play and sing at the same time whilst Bev the drummer was laughing so hard, she couldn't play. We did a second even faster run where we tried to combine The Ramones and Motorhead and it was a wonderful joyous experience. It's been a utterly sh1tty week at work with issue after issue and escalation after escalation, so putting it all behind me for 90 mins of manic singing (badly) and playing at stupid volumes was great therapy. Now I can't speak as my voice has gone and I still have lines in my fingers from playing so fast and hard, but it was worth it. We've decided we're going to do it at the rather staid open mic sessions in either Settle or Sedbergh. I suspect they'll kick us out but it will be fun. Rob 2 1 Quote
zbd1960 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Well, I now find myself in the weird position of being the conductor of a decent town brass band and I take the rehearsals on Wednesday evenings... Main things I'm working on are improving dynamics to make greater differentiation between pp and ff, plus some articulation issues. There's a lot of gigs coming up over the summer. 2 Quote
