"If its the fattest sounding p/u you've ever hear its the Lakland p/u!" This is my Minkster with a lovely tort dress on. Ain't she purdy! What I'll say about the tone is that this bass sounds great through the range of the tone and volume knobs. It responds well and you can hear the difference i.e. if you have the tone and volume opened up on full and use a pick (with my preferred amp setting) I get a really nice edge to the tone - great for emulating that ampeg tone. Rolling back the tone knob and the volume slightly and playing with fingers yields a thicker, fatter tone. I basically set my preamp one way for the gig and adjust my playing style and the controls on the bass to get different sounds. It is very rewarding. The neck is great and the spacing is good for me. Floyd Pepper Posted December 18, 2009 Share Posted December 18, 2009 So after buying OBBM's DJ4 in the summer, I became a Lakland convert and I'm now the proud owner of this one - a Natural DJ. Different from my current Lake Placid DJ4 in that it has the Lakland P/U's instead of the Aero's and it's still passive at the moment (the Lake Placid Blue one has the J East Retro) although I'm using it with a Sadowsky outboard Pre-amp when I need active. Haven't had chance to gig with it yet (My band has spent 4 months trying to replace our singer =[ ), but it sounds fantastic at the local jam nights i help run! Deffinately a lakland convert here! Heartbreaker Posted December 6, 2010 Share Posted December 6, 2010 (edited) Yup it was fretless but it had a fret job before I bought it & as Ebony is my fovourite wood for fretboards then this is my ideal option anyway. As for diferences, to be totally honest, there is no feel or tonal differences between the American 55-94 & the Euro 55-02's. The 94 had a flamed maple neck but the cherry burst 55-02 is the lightest of any 94 or 02's I've ever tried by a long margin. They average around the 10 lb mark but this one was only 8.6 & that makes a lot of diference when playing for 1.5 to 3 hours straight. I mean, they look nice enough but there was one there (not even that attractive either) that was £1199 or something outrageous like that! Cor blimey! Cor blimey![/quote] This is indeed true, but if you were to compare a Lakland to a similarly priced Fender, apparently the Lakland has a much better build quality! ...or so i'm told anyway...
