Dropzone Posted February 19, 2009 Share Posted February 19, 2009 Hi Guys I see there is a lightweight cab thread, but I am looking to downsize my Hartke rig from a 3500 amp, 1 x 15 + 2x 10 cabs. I am hoping to get just one cambo that will deliver a similar sound but just the size of a 1 x 15 or 2 x 10 cab. IE I am after a loud, lighweight, small combo. It does need to be man enough to provide a backline for small gigs? I am aware of the Markbass and Eden Nemesis but have yet to try either out. Just bear in mind that a heavier and thus cheaper head plus a lightweight cab will be louder and less expensive than a combo whose total weight is less but whose single-lift weight is greater. dannybuoy Posted February 19, 2009 Share Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) I have the CMD121P (I got mine 2nd hand for £500) and highly recommend it; although the slightly bigger 121H is meant to sound better. Awesome clean but warm sound, and I have a VT Bass pedal to dial in the old school Ampeg tones. Although I'm not gigging at the moment, I've heard of plenty of people who have gigged with just CMD121P by itself, but you can always get the extension cab later for extra oomph. machinehead Posted February 19, 2009 Share Posted February 19, 2009 I have gigged the markbass 121P combo on its own quite a lot and it's surprisingly loud. One rig I had before, which was very versatile, was a Markbass LMII, and a pair of Markbass 102 traveller cabs. Use one cab (on its side) for small gigs, use two cabs (Stacked 4 speakers high) for larger gigs. The volume with just one cab is really surprising though. Top bit of kit & surprisingly loud & can really get the lows shaking & weighs less than my 30 watt vox combo which measures about a third of the size! If you're near Dunblane on a monday night you can come & have a blast. Edit... It's loud enough for small to medium gigs without PA & if you needed more you can add a cab for the bigger gigs (or causing subsidence). I have amazed many people that a 1x15 combo can make such a noise. And at the end of the gig, it slips easily into the boot of my car. I wouldn't describe it as light, but it's easy enough for one person to carry about.
