Am6 instead of Dm, really? 🙄 More of the same. I'm learning them on the upright. Damn but those guys are good! We're doing it with just vox, bass, guitar, and reduced drum kit, so don't have the orchestration which means we have to do our own versions. I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible so long as they sound good, so my walking bass lines are mostly arpeggios or chromatic. 1 Quote
hiram.k.hackenbacker Posted May 30 Posted May 30 They didn’t take much learning, but the two new ones in the set for one of the bands I’m in are Red Light Spells Danger and You Should Be Dancing. Sounds pretty boring, but the band are a ten piece with brass and percussion and they both sound flippin’ ace. Gigging them tomorrow. 3 Quote

I loved doing you should be dancing, and it went down a storm as we segued into Does your mother know when it gets to the instrumental part, but can't do that anymore as our keyboard player left, and it sounds a bit empty with a bass and a guitar! 1 Quote

Great way to describe him ez 😁 and yes, it’s the timing that keeps catching me out, I kinda jumped straight in but I think I need to listen to it a lot more first, thanks 🙏 Quote

One of my fave tunes to play is I’m Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down (that pesky Pino again), there are some things that I just can’t do smoothly (the outro for instance), so it has to be an ez version. Vultures is another sneaky tune from that Mayer album. 1 Quote
asingardenof Posted June 6 Posted June 6 Current song learning for the band is Shout by Tears For Fears. Not massively complicated, but a nicely tricky little solo in the bridge makes it fun. Quote
dave_bass5 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago We needed some slow songs, and ive played My girl for years, always gone down well. Stupidly I suggested this to my current band. Yeah, the bas line is simple, but ive never really taken notice of the brass and stings before. As im on keys I now have not learn as much of this as I can. Obviously I'll dumb it down as I cant play it all, but I really should have thought this through first. Quote
