How do you find the DCX?

… it’s a decent pedal, I currently run it clean at church as this seems to suit how I play there. At home I do like to add a little bit of hair/grit etc, but not much. It can go full on if wanted, but not my thing tbh. Adds a nice ‘vibe’ to the sound easily. Always a bit odd describing sound with words, but there you go 🤣

As far as I know it’s similarish to the Aphex Aural Exciter and Big Bottom pedal. I also think it sounds a bit like the Creation Audio Funkulator, at least how I had it set. Gives a nicer bottom end, with added highs, I have the high set lower amount as it gives a whine when it’s set too high, maybe a combo of a fault or having 2 comps lol!

My EUB / Guitar set up as of last week, a friend made me a silly offer on the MOOD so there's an empty space at moment, been thinking reverb maybe (after Echobox).

 

Starts at the MINI on the top right and works left, then Onward to Meris X (bottom right). Some pedlas may look a bit wonky, only 3 have velcro at the moment. Its desk top use rather than floor, makes editting easier on the fly.

 

Sounds f***ing awesome!

Subdecay Echobox is an awesome delay. Used to be my absolute favourite. The modulation sounds in it are lush.

Fantastic pedal, this is the third one I've owned now. Yeah the Modualtion is sweet, probably my favourite part of the pedal.

here's the latest version of my pedalboard, all inside the MOD DuoX  

 

Every purple line is an audio path, and every blue one is MIDI.

 

It's one in (though it could be stereo) 6 out (three stereo pairs). 

 

The parallel audio paths include an ambient path that's all reverb/delay, one that's all pitch-to-MIDI, and one that's glitchy weird sh*t. 

 

it's all controlled via a Keith McMillen Softstep and Quneo, the MOD Footswitch and two Dunlop mini expression pedals. The only additional outboard at the moment is a Dunlop volume pedal, a Dunlop Wah (alternate between the mini bass wah and the Justin Chancellor), and a Nordstrand Starlifter.

It's built up over time, using successive versions of the same platform (The MOD Duo, then the first version of the DuoX, then the more powerful version - I've got a MOD Dwarf as well that I really need to dig into further, but it wouldn't run all of this!) - so the development has been near-daily tweaking of it for close to a decade! I've saved some of the iterations of it, but not enough of them! Every now and again I hear a thing I recorded a few years ago and have literally no idea how I got that sound 😆

Yes, it seemed a lot for a dwarf, that is what I have, mine is way simpler, but it is my daily gigging setup in a cover band so there isn't much out there needed!

The Dwarf is capable of a lot, but the 8 core processing in the DuoX makes the parallel stuff possible to this level ☺️

I loved the dwarf for the level of potential nerdiness, got some great bass tones out of it although it was the drives that I struggled with a little. Crazy ambitious project, glad to see that quite a bit of that lives on in the Anagram.

Yeah, the anagram is an interesting project - VASTLY superior hardware (for bass) to the MOD stuff, and a much easier version of the software for people who want to build copies of analog boards that are largely linear, rather than exploiting the parallel processing stuff that the Dwarf/DuoX will do. 

If you're finding the drives tricky on the Dwarf, try pairing them with specific cabinet sims, and instead of assigning them to a pedal to turn on and off, leave them on and use an A/B switch to turn on the whole chain at once. That way you can stack multiple drives, or use a tube emulator before or after the drive as well as a cab sim (or two) to create a really bespoke drive - you can even use a crossover to have the clean sound of your bass below, say, 100hz, and everything above that go through the drive so you don't lose thump... It took me a while to get the hang of that!

Yeah I did play around with a lot of stacking and parallel routing, the Rude premium drive ended up being the closest I found for my personal taste. A clean blend with some EQ and careful compression got me close but I’m just really picky with drives.

 

I ended up selling it on a while back, just wasn’t getting much use vs my actual pedalboard.
