spiltmilk_2000
So, have bought a bitsa jazz bass. In the past have bought vintage or cs fenders so have never mucked around changing pups but thought with a bitsa it might be fun to upgrade here and there and have an experiment. So, what brands should I consider? I guess I'm more into a passive vintage kind of tone but might consider something active and a little more modern sounding. But the options seem almost too plentiful! Any advice on either good passive or active upgrades greatly appreciated! Thanks Ps. Apologies if this isn't the best forum for this question... fretmeister
I really like Seymour Quarter Pounders. Still a great single cool sound but big and chunky with it.
Roger2611
I am a big fan of the Lindy Fralin pickups I have different pickups in each of my Precision's and the Fralin equipped one is definitely my favourite and is preferred by both bands as well.....how much of it is down to the pickup though is a different question! spiltmilk_2000
I guess that's the million dollar question when there are so many variables to consider... Any thought on lollar (?) pups? Have heard them mentioned a few times but know nothing about them... Thanks for the suggestions so far!
ribbetingfrog
Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder all the way. Had one in my MIM P bass, loved it.

spiltmilk_2000
I have a set of Irish tour bare knuckles in an old jap strat which are immense but I hadn't thought of their bass pups... Thanks for the suggestion!
Lozz196
I like the Seymour Duncan Hot Stacks. Hum-cancelling, which is always good on a Jazz, plus sound great, really full. That said, I`ve been very impressed with the Custom Shop pickup in my 2015 US Precision, and Jazzes now also have Custom Shop pickups in them - if they`re as good as the Precision ones they have to be worth checking out. odysseus
Another shout for Bare Knuckle here. Got a set on a Squier/bitsa jobbie I put together. Much better sound now.
LayDownThaFunk
Seymour SJB1s!
Maude
If you're on a budget then Entwistle JBXNs can't be beat. Actually forget the "on a budget" bit, they're just really good pickups.
Raslee
Lindy Fralin...simply the best....and probably most expensive
steve-bbb
if you want modern sounding and powerful try wizard hammers (or their new hotrod equivalents) - massive passive output no need for active onboard
JoeEvans
Putting Bartolinis into my fretless Tokai jazz transformed it - it sounds absolutely delicious.
