I found this after a bit of a google, looks like a 10 string version sold for $560 a good few years ago, not exactly cheap but it does look like it might actually be playable though.

and I've just had a look at the sellers other items and found this!

And just why, exactly, did you have a look at the other items, eh..? Would you have done that without this 'loss leader' to tempt you in..? The bloke's perhaps not as daft as he's made out to be..? Shrewd, maybe, as a marketing ploy..!

wanted to see if he was selling other instruments, all found was clothes and books, nothing I'd want. (I often check out the other listings to get a rough idea of the kind of seller they are)

Ah, but there could have been a gold-top Les Paul, or a 67 Jazz there; you only went there because of his cunning trap..! How was he to know you don't read, and walk about naked, eh..? :P

Sums it up perfectly.

I think if we did buy it, it would be a shame to just burn it. We'd get way more mileage out if it if we were to send it around and post videos of our attempts to actually play the damn thing.

Would that be like painting the Forth Bridge? By the time you've painted the whole thing, the far end is in need of painting again?

I'll buy 17 Hipshot extenders if you fit them!

I entered a reasonable convo with him.

His reply seems fairly sensible.
"The bass was a curiosity that I bought for £2500 about 8 years and as it was in need of work. I replaced the frets, pickups and hardware. The bridge was shot and so, I replaced it with monorail saddles and a steel bar which holds intonation and sustain perfectly. The strings are from Octave4Plus and were £500 for the set.

Obviously, I can't recoup the price but, I would be looking for £1800 or thereabouts.

It comes with a heavy leather strap and a hard case."

So now we know a little more on it anyhow. I think it needs to go to the infamous mr cleartone of eBay and have it converted to a ten string for sausage fingers haha, well at least it would be a bit more playable having the strings on the fretboard.
Still not worth 1800 I was hoping he would say a few hundred and for a laugh I would have bought it and donated it to the bc members as a "curiosity".
