My local music shop telling it like it is!!

My local music shop has been upgrading their website.

I had a nose around and this is what is written in their Bass Guitar section.

"We all play bass at Neath Music and we love bass guitars. We accept that there are other instruments out there, and we even allow guitarists into the shop if they behave themselves but as far as we’re concerned, bass is where it’s at."

I loved it and thought you guys would too!!

By saying guitarists must behave themselves, does that mean no Stairway to Heaven, Paranoid and Smoke on the Water? Or is that just those over 45? :D

With 'Frozen' and Adele chiming out from the pianos most days, I imagine the egocentric guitar noodling of the past would be welcome relief in most music retail stores these days!

At my local shop (Pete Oakley's Burton) he does not like people stepping upstairs to look at his stock of guitars, you are certainly not allowed to pick them up and have to ask to try them and are constantly monitered. As for basses...he has a fair sized room he uses for storage next door to the shop, which is always locked. Anyway it has a very big window and you can see guitars hanging on the right hand side of the wall. This is where the basses lye, forever to gather dust. There must be at least 40 or 50 in there, I highly advise customers to shop somewhere else. Both guys who run the place are complete jackasses :)

[/quote] No , sadly. The sheer bone idleness of the youth of today means they can't be arsed to find their own simplistic and tired old clichés !!

I always seem to find that guitarists always bang out Enter Sandman by Metallica which is fine by me lol and I used to hate going into some music shops and asking to try basses as the young shop assistants that seem to serve you pick up the bass and play it and have some kind of "hey look at me I am so good Bass w***fest lol" and some of them really are great bass players but I dont want to hear them playing I want to try the bass myself hence one of the reasons I tend to buy on here or online anyway back on topic lol love what your shop says Spacechick

If you specialise in pretty much one thing, you will need to cast your net far and wide.
I've been to GAK, Andertons and BassGear these last few months..all good, all different.

I prefer shops to have a seperate room and that way you get past the 'audtioners'...
having said that, I guess we have all done it.

You should always ask to try something...that is just basic manners, but also it gets the attention
of the staff and they can look after you.

Personally I don't give a sh*t what anyone thinks about what I'm playing whilst trying out a bass. I'll play what I want to play to make sure the bass I'm considering is going to suit me and what I play.
