How do I replicate this sound?

When I saw them on Jools...

Haha, don't know the song sorry but I would recommend playing about with the pedal as you'll learn a lot. I learned all about effects and how to use them by playing with my first Zoom multi effects years ago. So maybe try all the different synth models and play with their controls. Not the quickest solution I suppose but worth it in the end

Cheers people who actually helped, I shall lock myself in the bass room tonight and give it a crack.

Anyone see them on Jools?

Haha, everyone loves a review!

Sounds like a bouncy synth with a bit of grit on it to me. Bit of octave down as well possibly?

Was surprised to see him using a Jaguar on Jools.

I think the best of the synth patches is Z-Syn, which I believe is an emulation of a Korg G5 . I'd give the sawtooth wave form on that one a go and play with the frequency section. You can add octave down with the pitch shifter and maybe a bit of distortion too.

I'd say you're looking for more of an actual bass synth than dirt/filter/modulation combinations to get that sound, but playing with the fx on your unit should be good fun & you'll learn what they do to one another. Shep's blog is a good place to get references to what things do too.

I like the bass sound. Not a bad song either.

edited to change that to than. :sorry:

It's a fuzz through a band-pass filter, and the LFO movement in the filter is a pulse wave, which you won't be able to sync to the track unless you've got a very clever tap-tempo filter, and pretty much nobody buys them so nobody makes them, which is annoying. I've got one, but I'd like some choice in the market FFS.

But yeah, that's exactly what the sound is. Good luck reproducing it.
